When the team is faltering, vocal leadership is what the coach and his numerous assistants should provide.

Let Melo focus on hitting the open man.

I believe it should come from on and off the court. Melo is our best player and commands a certain amount of respect which gives what he says some weight.

GustavBahler - what tells you that Melo is not a vocal leader?

Melo ain't the problem. Uncle Phil is wise to lighten his load, not increase it.

We desperately need a 6'11 forward who can box out and play defense.

I watch the games Earl. Saying that Melo isn't a vocal leader isn't the same thing as saying he's the problem, there is room for improvement in that department. Not like doing extra paperwork, just want him to be more vocal when the team is faltering.

He was vocal when he told Woody to "just fukkin coach the game"

LOL, if Melo could be like that on the floor more often, we would be in business.

Agreed but how often do you have to deal with a tool/bizzaro world coach like Woody?

I thought Woodson was a good coach at first, more involved. Ready to call a TO when he saw something he didn't like, made adjustments that worked. Eventually he put the team on autopilot, stopped yelling at JR when he was fing up, took it out on Shump. Made a joke of his accountability mantra.

Not helping felton on the picks which killed us ...

End game play designs were Kevin Gilbride bad

And, not playing Cole was retarded but a blessing now.

“Oh, it hurt. It hurt. We wanted him to have an opportunity. Just couldn’t kind of break free from what was going on and get back on the basketball court and work.” - Phil Jackson on Lamar Odom

Uncle Phil saw the issue in advance. He needed another long, frontcourt player with the ability to defend multiple positions.

Each of our point guards are liabilities on defense, for different reasons. Jose Calderon is a gem, but he needs help. We like Larkin. He still gotta man up on defense and show what he can do against John Wall, Kyle Lowry, Russell Westbrook, Eric Bledsoe, Mike Conley, Ty Lawson or Deron Williams.

Among our shooting guards, Shump is an expert at ball pressure. Tim Hardaway Jr gives up easy baskets as routine. JR can be as good as he wants. The neverending question is, "What does JR Want?"

Bargnani cannot be camouflaged on defense. Putting him on the floor with Stoudemire, defensively, could be a skit on Saturday Night Live.

Who do you have in mind? It's one thing to identify a need and yet another to solve the problem. I would guess that Phil is pondering this question right now. There area a few guys still available. Some have already been signed off this list.

Keeping It Real

Kyrie Irving, Steph Curry, Chris Paul...

which one is Calderon or Larkin slowing down?

and I love the acquisition of Jose Calderon.

We need another fluid, tall, expert defender up front to compensate.

i'm just saying. you are bringing 3 of the top 5 point guards in the league and asking a question like who is calderon and larkin going to stop?
it's about exploiting their team's weaknesses sometimes, not always stopping their best player.

like phil said (and insinuated), we have a bunch of average guards which we might want to trade. but if we cannot, we still have workable pieces... just not ideal.
hell it's all an upgrade compared to felton no defense and toure murry no offense. no?

Amare scoring well has nothing to do with defense. He can't rebound either.

Bargnani is a very good man on man defender. He's a horrible team defender.

Toure hardly played last year to even say he was a factor in defense.

Shump is definitely a mediocre defender. Bargnani had stopped more people than he has. Ask Dwight Howard.

I just want to say some of you guys are media clones just repeating what's been said in the past. You guys suck

Whaddya expect? We're all laws school/CPA dropouts!

This is like the argument back in their heyday where your backcourt was constantly asked if it could stop Marbles or AI.

Does a great, systematic offense create at least mediocre defense?

By slowing down, he means hold to 20 to 25 points, instead of their season highs.
