I think that Shump's biggest shortcoming is the mental side. He HAS shown stretches of being an explosive offensive player when he's gotten fired up and he HAS made clutch shots and competed hard and been effective on both ends, in big games as well. I don't remember exactly but vs. Miami in the 1st round a couple years back comes to mind. But though he has at times made big shots in big moments and locked down excellent opposing players, this Shumpert only showed up sporadically, which means overall he's been a big disappointment. Last year especially was a disgrace, and you could tell that mentally he was defeated at times.

That said the optimist in me would like to think that he could gain confidence and relax in a Phil system, learning to pick his spots better and hopefully expanding his concept of how to play effectively. Could be total wishful thinking on my part. He might just not have the makeup to reach the level he needs to reach, hard to say.

As I posted in another thread, I still think that where the Knicks sit right now you don't hesitate to move him when the right situation presents itself. However if he's on the team next year I will be watching to see if better coaching and system can help him turn it around.

Shump is an emotional car wreck, as soon as he learns how to relax and focus, he'll be fine.

Ya know, we always talk about what kind of players you need to put around a star, it should also be noted certain players (weather role or prospect) need to be around the right leadership and culture.

His relationship wasn't that great with woodson, the trade rumours, the lack of ball movement, inconsistent playing time, media, and what ever else is going on in his personal life.

You can just tell that he's not as focus has he should be, and thats curbing his potential.

I think Shump should be with the summer league team this year. We have a new coach, new system and he could benefit from the reps with his teammates. Instead, he is doing his own thing. I just don't think this kid gets it. He is missing a great opportunity too become a better Knick. We have to many guards, he needs to be traded to balance the roster.

There's been injury and team issues that have IMO stunted his growth, but he's still capable of reaching his full potential. You've all seen the level he can take his game to when he flashed here and there, but maybe this year he puts it all together and gains that consistency we've been waiting for. Doesn't mean he's gonna be some star, but he can be a very impactful player and I hope he does that here in NY. He may be traded. Who knows.

From what i've been seeing of him in videos this summer, he looks like his handle is much more confident and tighter. He's more confident and decisive in his pull up jumpers and quicker with the ball. I think if you already don't like him it's easy to try and make it seem like he's no good, but I think you're bias is effecting your vision and scouting ability. Impatience is another issue for many Knick fans. If a player doesn't show right away he's a bum. Grow the F up. It doesn't always work that way.

And people who are skeptical of Shumpert's game should change our opinion, why? Because of a mix tape against dudes as talented as UK posters?

Because we've been down this road before: Oh Channing Frye is a bum, Trevor Ariza is a bum, Jordan Hill is a bum, Gallo is a bum, Wilson Chandler is a bum, etc etc- part of developing players is sticking with them even when it looks like they're regressing or not making any improvement. How many times have we got rid of a player after a bad season, only to see them become a solid contributor on another team.

Is the problem giving up on them or giving up on them at the worst possible time and for poor return? Let's be honest, Shumpert is a role player, which makes him expendable. I'm all for keeping indispensable talent but he has not proven to be that. If I can get a pick, I'd do it to avoid having to overpay him when he becomes a free agent.

Yep , do u want to pay him 7 million a year right now, I dont. I dont think he is ever going to be more than a role player and just like Frye you dont have to pay a guy 4 years 32 million to get that production. In fact the Knicks now paying Melo that super max deal cant afford to give out contracts like that. It is imperative that Jackson can flip players like Shump for picks that can give his production for an 1/8 of the cost in FA

If Hardaway looks better on D, or Thanasis shows he belongs now, Phil will be planning on a way to trade Shumpert for something useful,BUT building up his value will be important. By simply not trading him already, and saying that the Knicks are hesitant to let him go, Jackson has increased his value, IMO, but Shumpert has to show something on the court for us to get full value.

For those who might want to keep Shumpert, he Catch-22 is that if Iman plays well this year his value goes up to a point where we won't even think of matching an offer from a team willing to overpay him, and we lose him for nothing. So even if some think he might be worth keeping if he plays well this year, unless he is willing to take less from the Knicks, he is gone, and we get nothing back.

This will be his last season with the Knicks, and he will be gone before the trade deadline- just can't see any other way to deal with him at this point.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?
