He HAS shown stretches of being an explosive offensive player when he's gotten fired up and he HAS made clutch shots and competed hard and been effective on both ends, in big games as well. I don't remember exactly but vs. Miami in the 1st round a couple years back comes to mind. But though he has at times made big shots in big moments and locked down excellent opposing players, this Shumpert only showed up sporadically, which means overall he's been a big disappointment. Last year especially was a disgrace, and you could tell that mentally he was defeated at times. That said the optimist in me would like to think that he could gain confidence and relax in a Phil system, learning to pick his spots better and hopefully expanding his concept of how to play effectively. Could be total wishful thinking on my part. He might just not have the makeup to reach the level he needs to reach, hard to say.
As I posted in another thread, I still think that where the Knicks sit right now you don't hesitate to move him when the right situation presents itself. However if he's on the team next year I will be watching to see if better coaching and system can help him turn it around.
Shump is an emotional car wreck, as soon as he learns how to relax and focus, he'll be fine.
Ya know, we always talk about what kind of players you need to put around a star, it should also be noted certain players (weather role or prospect) need to be around the right leadership and culture.
His relationship wasn't that great with woodson, the trade rumours, the lack of ball movement, inconsistent playing time, media, and what ever else is going on in his personal life.
You can just tell that he's not as focus has he should be, and thats curbing his potential.
