here's what morey actually said in the article:

"It’s always a challenging situation during free agency,” Morey said. “You are always having to recruit players and there might be current players at current positions, might be people with the current numbers. It’s unfortunate that it’s often hard to handle. Reality is, it’s standard practice. When we went after Chris Bosh a few years ago,we had him in Luis Scola’s number. When we went after Dwight Howard he had (Pat) Beverley’s number. I get the sensitivity and I hate that it creates some hurt feelings. I don’t like that, but that’s obviously Carmelo Anthony’s number, that’s the number he wants. He told us that. Bottom line, if Carmelo comes Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin have to be traded. It’s just math. It’s not personal. My job is every day figure out how to win. Sometimes it creates challenging situations."

perfectly transparent, matter of fact.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Wow - what a franchise. These guys and Melo deserve each other.
clearly you just got here. Before he was all hot for Melo Morey was the greatest GM ever. Now he rolls out the red carpet for Melo and he's classless, useless, etc etc etc

Pretty funny

Wonder if Phil will get crucified if he resigns Melo and gives him a penny over 14mil? I have the feeling that Phil will probably be exempt and Melo will be blamed for forcing Phils hand....

yea... when Melo resigns you can see the options:
1) Melo forced Phil
2) Dolan forced Phil
3) Phil is old

you better put a hyphen in "re-signs" or the ISIS duo will be thinking you mean Melo will resign from the NBA...for the good of the sport.

4) This is now a confirmed moneygrab.
5) Melo just wanted a chance to further alienate his arch-nemesis, Lin

he is an excellent gm in terms of taking advantage of dumbasses like the knicks in trades.

what the hell does that have to do with his social skills? he's still a great gm.

best GM ever. They are on their way to duplicating the same epic run Melo had out West with the Nuggets.

I was leaning towards number 2 if Melo got the max, but I'm having second thoughts about that scenario. Usually we hear stories at this point about Dolan interfering, but there hasn't been a peep about Dolan since the medical staff controversy. If Dolan really was calling the shots I believe someone would have leaked it by now.

I don't want Melo to get the max for the sake of cap room, but maybe Phil is smart enough to find a way around that problem. If believes he can build a contender and still give Melo the max, that Melo is an important part of his plans, then I'm going to trust his judgement and experience and I guess we will see what happens.

Hope those who are vehemently against this scenario will do the same. Sure don't want to sift through page after page of these Melo wars next season if he does come back. Hope posters will just tune out those who want to keep this going ad nauseum, maybe they will get the message that this stuff is beyond played out.

Hah? You don't think the Mc Grady trade was a huge win for Morey?

the bigger mistake was acquiring a jayvee player who insisted that he be paid at the varsity level.

also what's your point about mcgrady? you don't approve of clearing cap space in 2009-2010 to land two max free agents that summer of 2010 that hurl the knicks into win-now mode? do you need draft picks when you have two top-tier players?

make up your mind, was he doing these deals to rebuild from scratch or swing for the fences, a philosophy that his boss, dolan, advocated?

dont worry... It will be like it was 2 years ago. Knicks winning tons of games and the grumpy duo wont have much to say because the rest of us will be watching our Knicks from the top of the Atlantic division standings. They will say stupid things like we are flip floppers and band wagon fans and are only liking Melo now so we enjoy the wining and they will wait with desperation for the Knicks to fail in the post season so they can start their anti MElo jihad again, because thats the "fans" they are... they would rather lose with Melo and be right then win with him and just enjoy the team. They have literally invested years of hate into this guy and under no circumstances and stomach the Knicks winning with him

but melo has already agreed to not take the max to become a knick! that's what phil jackson has been saying about his talks with melo for months. "no courting no wooing." "you want to be a knick then don't ask for the max because you won't get it."

don't tell me you think it's okay to for melo to be a hypocrite and pay lip service. then again, isn't paying lip service what melo is all about?

and while we are on the subject of what has been said, lets not forget that "sources close to melo" are already reneging.

this is going to be an EPIC showdown.

We'll say, "Hopefully Jackson can get some good prospects, or draft picks or both in return that will help build our team into a contender down the road." It was and is always about the name on the front of the Jersey as opposed to whose name is on the back of the Jersey.

Most sensible Knick fans root for the Knicks regardless of who's name is on the back of the jersey, while you root for the Knicks only on your terms.....
