In a radio appearance, Chris Broussard reported that the Houston Rockets and New York Knicks could agree upon a sign-and-trade of Carmelo Anthony for James Harden.

The Rockets could then sign LeBron James with anticipated cap space created by trading away Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin in order to form a Big 3 with Anthony and Dwight Howard.

James and Anthony have reported interest in playing together.

Harden was a first-team All-NBA selection, but there have been questions on whether his game fits with Howard.

let me ask this. james harden is better than carmelo.. why would morey think lebron, carmelo and dwight is better than lebron, harden and dwight?

Probably because the scuttlebutt is Lebron wants to play with Carmelo so HOU is trying to position themselves as the team that can accomodate that desire. As good as Harden is if Lebron is serious about playing with Carmelo then Morey is signaling to Lebron that they can make that happen if he wants to jump ship.

I dont get people hating on Harden. He's is paid $15 mil a year, is a 1st team All NBA shooting guard (is there a better SG in the league right now considering age and salary?), and is what? 24? 25? What's the problem here? He also averages 5 rebounds and 5 assists a game and can definitely score. At the very least he is a huge asset.

because Morey doesnt share your jihadish anti-Melo sentiments and understands that at this point in their career Melo is better. Just a guess.

So this Chris Broussard rumor that we all laughed at as being something he made up makes sense....

Houston could trade Harden to NY for Melo.....then Lebron could sign with Houston straight up.

All they have to do is get rid of Lin the same way they got rid of Asik....

Also could these second round picks, Larkin and Wellington be flipped to Houston to make this all work?

In Phil we trust mother****ers

I messed around on trade machine earlier and plugged asik in from the rockets (Lin's deal is identical). The Knicks could send dalembert, Murry, kmart, aldrich and another non guaranteed deal and it worked. My thought was to get the 25th pick in the deal. The Knicks don't need Lin and they need dalembert.

What about the idea of getting Harden for Melo though?

I don't want to think about it. Not a fan of harden. I know he is reay good I just don't want him in ny.

+1 Don't like the dude

It would be funny to watch his FT attempts go down once he puts on a Knicks jersey though.

same.. but at least he's value and you live with that. Boozer and late #1s is not value.

Yeah, I'm on board with that. Wasn't thinking that we could always deal him afterwards.

Melo for Harden straight up does not work contract wise if Melo is looking for something near the max. Guess what? You add Lin's contract and it works. This should open a shot at signing LeDouche as well for Houston. Morey is a ****ing boss if he gets this done. I hope Big Chief Triangle does his thing and also gets a 1st Round Pick. Meaning the cost of LeDouche and Melo would be Harden, Lin and a 1st rounder.

EDIT: Now imagine if they also get their other target...Lowry.

That works. I would take harden or parsons along with Lin

Man...I would pass out if that happens. I love Parsons game. I think he is very comparable to Pippen.

Would Lebron really rather play with Melo than harden?

That is the rumor. Something about being buddies since their HS and AAU days. Read somewhere that LeDouche is more intrested in getting Melo his 1st championship than getting his 3rd.

I guess Melo is a better fit on the perimeter as harden and Lebron would get in each other's way dominating the ball and penetrating. Don't think Melo will ISO with Lebron on the floor

That makes sense

His best friend is Chris Paul though. Same draft class and he is still after a ring

Wait...Chris Paul was not in Lebron and Carmelo's draft class. Lebron, Melo, Wade, and Bosh were all drafted in 2003.

ESPN talking heads last night saying that Paul and LeDouche does not match. Both are ball dominant play makers. Melo can be the offensive assassin that LeDouche can just feed in the game. I think I agree.

I thought Paul and Melo were closer. The toast and him briefly trying to come to NY. They would also fit well together.

On a different note, if Omer Asik was worth a 2015 lottery pick, WHY THE HELL DIDN'T WE MOVE TYSON CHANDLER THERE?!?!?! Demps might've thrown in their 2017, leapfrog the Cavs GM for the dumbest executive in the league.

You wonder how hard a Chandler trade scenario was explored with the Pelicans. At least I do...I'm sure Phil had conversation with Demps on it...I hope he did anyway. All completely speculative and a moot point now but just to play along -- you figure it would've required us taking back one of their 3 big-money guards (Evans, Gordon, Holiday) or PF Ryan Anderson -- but it's their ancillary assets that presumably would've been included that had me super intrigued: guys like PG Pierre Jackson, SF Luke Babbitt, Cs Jeff Whitey/Alexis Ajinca. Honestly, you gimmie 3 out of those 4 + a Tyreke Evans or even a Ryan Anderson + cash, I would've been good, even excluding Felton from the equation...and I wouldn't even have required a pick back. They could've kept all their picks. That's how much I like their younger filler pieces..

The question here in the aftermath -- what's better value: what we got from Dallas (including a soon to be over-the-hill Jose Calderon and the $22mm owed to him over the next 3 years) or something surrounding one of the Pelican's larger contracts (Evans or Ryan Anderson say) + Pierre Jackson, Luke Babbitt and Jeff Withey?

Look, I know we already made the move with Dallas and any speculation on what else was out there for Chandler is moot but just some food for thought. I've warmed up to the trade considerably since my first reaction yesterday (what's done is done -- gotta focus on the positives of the trade, not Calderon's contract, I get that) but for a while now, I've always had New Orleans as a potential trading partner for Chandler and it makes me revisit it again now that they obviously wanted a center upgrade and went out and got Asik. And for the record, I don't get their move for Asik at all -- not when Tyson Chandler was out there, not when they already have guys like Ajinca and Whitey (both of whom I like better than Asik), even a guy like Cole Aldrich who's there (a better version of Asik imo that would've come much cheaper) or even still a guy like 6'10" 260 Daniel Orton, possibly a better version of Kendrick Perkins in his prime that I'm personally high on and consider a good cheap young building block-type C.

So how 'bout it -- what scenario would you guys prefer -- what we got from Dallas or what I would've asked New Orleans for? Just curious..

It has to be a sign and trade with Melo only? The Heat can't get anything for Lebron?

Good observation by Simmons...This is what I've been saying all along -- hopefully a bidding war for Melo is created and we wind up looking at a choice of several trade packages. It's up to Phil to work this concept to the fullest.. Create a frenzy and go with the best package in the end, whether it be for an already established star just entering his prime (James Harden) or an expiring contract and a few picks (the Chicago scenario). Can't possibly let this guy go for nothing. Hopefully Dallas and the Lakers enter the fold now. The more teams involved, the merrier..

this would be great. Personally I would like Melo to stay but a bidding war between Chi, Hou, LAL and the Clipper would certainly yield some interesting packages.
