Nalod - who cares?

The head coaches job is to communicate with the 12 dudes in uniform. The GM runs the front office. The Knicks have plenty of executive layers (please check the org chart) to handle the front office. That would NOT be Mark Jackson's job in New York.

In Atlanta, Lenny Wilkens spent little time hob-nobbing with Hawks front office people and he is in the Hall of Fame.

Not hobnobbing and clashing are very different. You can't argue with the results that he got. You can't say that his players weren't loyal and motivated. But, the other stuff was significant enough that ownership fired him. Jax didn't want to leave la and he didn't want west at his practices. Phil is going to be involved. Not sure that Jax wants that. Also, he may not want to leave la

No doubt MSG has been the clown town organization. Kerr would have a buffer with PHil

Actually you bring up a good point because I don't fully blame MJax but it was really a bad fit.

Came across this article you might enjoy reading. http://www.sfgate.com/sports/jenkins/article/Meddling-Joe-Lacob-to-blame-for-firing-of-Mark-5458279.php

Given that, I think he'd rub Dolan the wrong way. I really don't kow but MJax brings some baggage with him and he might prefer to enjoy his life as pastor, be an announcer and not have the intensity that comes with being a head coach.

After reading the article, maybe Kerr does not want to be a part of that group? In NY he can be a part of building a culture. In GS, its already in place.

Besides, if he was not willing to relocate from so. cal as the owner wanted, why would he want NY?

Nalod - rubbing Dolan the wrong way is exactly what Uncle Phil brings to the table. The loss of total control is a huge, bitter pill for any owner with that size wallet and ego. You make an excellent point about clown town. The fact the Kerr decision has been dragged out longer than the retirement of Brett Favre is a teachable moment.

Kerr in San Francisco makes sense. Everybody loves the Golden Gate Bridge. What a marvelous view. And a talented roster.

Please keep us loyal Knicks fans away from the railing.

-- The odd confluence of a sex scandal (Jackson the target of an extortion scheme allegedly launched by his former mistress) and his tepid response to Jason Collins' coming-out announcement came in the span of a year. Jackson made it clear that his religion does not accept homosexuality, and the Warriors' president, Rick Welts, is openly gay.

That is interesting ... I never thought of that.

A coach who is coaching in the most accepting homosexual community in our country, who makes it clear that he does not accept homosexuality based on his religious beliefs.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

the knicks can't afford to hire a homophobe to coach in NYC. it's never going to happen.
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

The sheer hypocrisy that gay people should be subject to an extreme religious sexual ban, while he can sleep with whoever he likes, cheat on his wife and have sex outside of marriage!

Or a high school game, that's a fact.

Apparently though, he's wons lots of games as a GM, a color commentator, and a spot-up shooter.

Get me MJax, get Patrick sitting on the bench next to him. Teach Tyson that turn around J and how to hit hooks over the ghost of Hibbert. Who better to mentor our boy Cole?

You lost me at teach Tyson. That dude has been in the NBA double digit years that dog ain't learning new tricks.

How old are you? Can you still learn anything?
Amare apparently took double digit years before he decided he could go to DreamShake school.

These aren't nursing home folks stuck in a rut.

Maybe what Ewing lacks in erudition might be made up for in a glowering practice presence.

Around The Horn

Kevin Blackinstone: (in his best Jerry Seinfeld voice) "what's the deal with Steve Kerr?"

Frank Isola: "It's the power of television. Lenny Wilkens 82 games. Larry Brown 82 games. I'd be worried about James Dolan"

Jackie McMullan: "Golden State makes sense."

Woody Paige: "What is Kerr doing?"

Really? We could afford the IT and Marbles debacle because they just do interns and Marketing execs? But a homophobe is going to cost too much in NYC?

Stick to Melohate. You're more readable.

jrodmc - Mark Jackson (head coach), Jim Cleamons (for the triangle) and Bill Cartwright (for the big men) would manage things just fine.

That's my three.

You'd take Medical Bill over Patrick? For shame. Leave Bill with Thibs, he's at home there. Cartwright was a Knick like Rod Strickland was a Knick.

I don't care that you still miss Lonnie Shelton. That don't fly either.

What's Bill going to teach big men that Patrick can't? How to undercut someone, maintain the shape of a pear and play the guitar?

Yeah, I'm beating this one to death. Sue me.

I still miss Clinton Wheeler.

Tyson make millions of dollars and he has yet to master the art of post game and jump shot. What makes you think he can learn to be an offensive threat in this stage of career. The man is content with his game. Good luck waiting on him to deliver the goods.

I think Mark would be a good fit for Indiana -
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

I think GS made a mistake firing Jackson. He's not my favorite coach, and his flaws were at times infuriating, but he did a good job overall for GS and I'm sad to see him leave. I can't imagine his bull-headedness working with the Knicks--they are still Dolan's team even if Jackson is going to try to run it--but I can see Jackson working out in Indiana. Jackson needs to be at a place that he trusts enough to hire the right assistants, run the right practices, and share some of the coaching Xs and Os. From what I understand, there are enough people who have reasonable relationships with him that it might work.

(Just an aside but . . . I wonder if JvG is at all tempted by the GS opening. It's probably one of the best situations he's going to see, not perfect but I can see him winning over the players quickly and coaxing a little more out of the current team than Jackson did.)
