Blasphemy.Riley used to talk about credibility. You are JR Smith. You are Carmelo. You are staring down at the Little Phil-E Wonder.
What are you thinking?
"By golly, he was GM in Phoenix when they got Shaq!"
"He hit that three when MJ passed him the ball!"
"He's run triangles!"
"At least he's not Lawrence Frank!"
Pony up some useless picks and Dolans checks, and get me Thibs. The triangle is not fuhucking brain surgery.
One of Phil's best quotes to date: "chop wood, haul water".
Move your feet. The basics, gentlemen. "This, is a basketball..."
And your point is???
What does being a GM in Phoenix buy you here, in the Cit-Tay?
Phoenix??? Really? To borrow a phrase, BFD.
Is the CAA Tamany Hall machine really going to be afeerd of that? Or impressed?
Thibs hasn't run the Triangle. To borrow a phrase, BFD.
Anyone know Thibs IQ?
Robert Horry hit lotsa clutch 3's too, and has more rings, does that mean he could be your coach?
What is this guy's coaching credibility based on? He knows PJax. Is that the main criteria?
Kerr retired awhile ago, so stop with the playing crap. I don't give a sheet since he isn't suiting up. And he hasn't spent last season doing the JKidd prepatory approach to head coaching in this league.
Tell me something good.
We need someone to hold all these misfit toys accountable, agreed?
What we don't need is a Phil MiniMe.
Coach or GM. Make up your mind.
If your cred is based solely on your nepotistic relationship to the boss, do your grunts respect you or think you're an instant troll?
Magnify that answer 20 times. This is a big business, with millionaire 20 and 30 somethings. With really big egos.
None of that changes no matter what we type about here in fanfantasyland.
whats your concern? That Kerr doesnt know enough hoops? That he cant lead? Forget last year's debacle.. how about the 54 win season? What did Woody do that Kerr couldnt do better?
Basketball IQ, no concerns there. Maybe my main concern is that Kerr's main resume bullet right now is "I know Phil". The rest is all really bad window dressing. Maybe to the rest of the NBA heads in here the Knicks are completely interchangeable with the Suns or the BobCats, but my humble homer opinion is there is possibly a little bit more required here then Phoenix. Just a hunch.
Very, very good question, what has Mr. Kerr led? The Phoenix Suns back office? Does that type of experience make Kiki Vandeweghe a great head coach? What makes you think Kerr can do anything better than an actual head coach who's actually had playoff experience?
Please be specific. I trust Phil is not an answer.
same reason Doc Rivers, Jason Kidd and Marc Jackson all got jobs with less experience than Kerr... they are bringing *something* to the table that prompted a GM to hire them.NBA coaching doesnt have a clearly defined skill set. Sometimes it leadership. Sometimes its the ability to teach, in Phil's case it was the ability to persuade and communicate. Kerr's experience running the Suns should not be dismissed either. Already having a handle on how to navigate a front office is a bonus..
Phil knows a lot of people and certainly has a lot of choices. Why do *you* think he would pick Kerr over any of the other 50+ qualified folks who he could interview?
I dont honestly have the answer but Im damn excited to find out.
I don't honestly know either, but all I'm reading is Kerr knows Phil, Kerr ran the triangle. Not too terribly exciting, is all I'm saying.
And running a backoffice in Phoenix, or almost anywhere else is actually going to be a plus coming into the documented menageri we have here in Dolanville? C'mon.
You keep coming up with guesses.
I guess we will find out, since they're don't seem to be any other serious candidates to worry about.
