Its not just the money. He's played remarkably hard this year, compliments to him. HOwever - there are no assets in cap space or pick to 'build around him', and, much more importantly, what evidence is there that he can or will be able to work with others? Amare/MDA/Lin - all were ignored, or rebuffed.
We keep forgetting pre-injury how bad rthe chemistry was with Amare. Melo insisted ball go through him, no accomodation to MDA/Amare....... whose to say he would with any other star (even if they could get them here?)

Both parties would be better off with him elsewhere.

Melo and Amare played well together dude. It wasn't til Tyson Chandler came that Amare didn't fit anymore.

Not really. The team played .500 ball that first year with Amare and Melo together.

is that their fault? There was a pg adjusting to a different style. Billups was used to a slow pace walk it up let me post up and work through me down low style. Offensively Melo and Amar'e usually work well but defensively no one works well with Amar'e. It's impossible. A smart coach would really run a lot of pnr with the two but that works to well for some coaches.

I wasn't assigning blame - that's going to take the thread in a whole different direction. I was just pointing out his statement was wrong.

My statement was that Amare and Melo play well together. According to Alan Hahn over the last 5 games they're averaging 25 minutes on the court with 58 points and are +49 between them. I didn't say anything about the Knicks record, which is influenced by many other factors. But you can't say that at least offensively Amare and Melo don't fit together or don't have chemistry, which is what you said. And your statement was wrong.

Everything in moderation. Even moderation.

You'll have to use a sample of more than 5 games if you want to make a serious statement about my claim being wrong. I mean, come on, be realistic.

I agree that resigning Melo is important. He is a top-5 player in this league. But the best move would be to convince him to not opt-out of his deal this summer and to convince him to wait until 2015. Then we can do like Miami and recruit 2-3 max-type players and maybe convince them all to take a small paycut to play together. Melo, 2 other max players like Kevin Love and Rajon Rondo, THjr, and filler would make a pretty unstoppable team.

My opinion - resigning melo to the max would be the most damaging thing this franchise has done since the allan houston contract.

My prediction - he will be resigned to the max.

Rose is not the answer.
