Dolan is a Moron. Don't give him too much credit for doing the obvious. This team is toast, though I hope for more.
He's not that much of a moron..His stock tripled since it went public..Knicks are the highest value franchise in basketball...His team sells out the arena annually..We might be the morons...
He was born a billionaire and handed a cash cow. He didn't build MSG one bit.
I'm not sure it was always a cash cow..It changed many hands..He did take it public and scored ..
When was MSG and the Knicks not a profitable business _after_ Cablevision acquired it? And it wasn't Dolan who acquired it but again, it was his father who then handed it to him.
As an aside: pretty much all NBA team values are going through the roof. Golden State was bought and then valued a year later several hundred million more than the sale price. Knicks being in one of the biggest markets, of course, are going to increase in value if teams like Golden State are also rising in value so rapidly. Dolan has literally nothing to do with the macroeconomics of any of this though.
Macroeconomics is based on statistics and required market.
One or even 2 teams in one city cannot provide the level of competition to clearly show which franchise is mismanaged and which running good.
MSG generates profits by itself with Knicks and Rangers being a sideshow to fulfill the status of the arena.
Games are same kind of event as rock shows, wrestling, boxing, etc.
For tourists visiting Manhattan it is same difference to see Knicks or Billy Joel...
Actually the latter is much more fun but it cost much more too.
Is it really matter for 90% of spectators at Knicks game if team sucks or is great? You can Booo or you can clap and scrim in support. Just entertainment ether way...
