Knick fans overrate their own players more than any other team. Shumpert isn't looked at as an extremely valuable piece by other teams. We had one shot to unload him for a better player in Nash and we blew that.

You can blame ESPN for this particular rumor. If it's true, you have to wonder how much of a cancer Waiters is.

Not sure there's much difference between Waiters and Dominique Jones (nbadraft.net gave this comparison). Jones might be the better player pound for pound; he's definitely more PG oriented, a better passer and has a better handle. Might be just as good an offensive player as well (he was at South Florida). Jones just needs a full-time NBA commitment and PT somewhere...Not sure D. Jones is even in the league at this point -- does Dallas still have him?? We could go get that guy for nothing probably and save Shump for something more substantial (reclamating him back to respectability in the meantime). Jermaine Taylor is another 6'5"-ish 2G that I've always been pretty high on. Again, if we want this type of player--an instant offense type 2G in the 6'4" range--go get Taylor and save Shump for something else, or just build him back up.

Curious -- what do Cavs fans think of this proposed deal? Anyone have a pulse of what Cleveland fans think of this?

He looks like an above average shooter according to his shot chart: http://stats.nba.com/playerShotchart.html?PlayerID=203079 He just can't seem to finish at the rim. Kinda similar to the same problems Shump has scoring.

The kids a cancer. I don't want him other than to leverage his potential for someone that can help us e.g. Aaron Afflalo and/or Paul Millsap. I think we'd be kidding ourselves though if we thought Shumpert could get Waiters but then again, Cleveland's front office is filled with idiots that outclass even some of the guys we've had in the past.

Deng, I see because Shumpert is essentially a poor man's version of him with the potential to improve, at a fraction of the cost and capable of playing the 2, which allows Jimmy Butler to play his natural position. Turner? Not a chance; he's always been better and is playing too well now.

I agree with this. Send Jr. Smith to Philly for Turner too.

Why would this make any sense for Philly: Add a veteran that is a bit of a headcase to a team that is looking to rebuild? Makes no sense.

No, we would not retain his bird rights. We'd only keep those Bird Rights if we had him on the team for 3 seasons. Since he's entering his last contract year, we'd have to compete against the market for him.

Thankfully we blew that (the Nash trade). Imagine how nightmarish it would be to have him on the roster right now, unable to play and committed to a $9 million per year deal for 2 more seasons.

I sometimes wonder if it's the owner moreso than the GM. I thought Ferry was similarly God awful when he was with them but he doesn't seem to be doing too bad in Atlanta, although it's nothing to be impressed about. Meanwhile, Dan Gilbert wreaks of a rich douchebag ******* with an undeserved confidence. I think a lot of their moves reflect that aura because there should've been no reason for them to think that they could compete and add a big ticket veteran like Jarret Jack and terrible contracts like Andrew Bynum and Earl Clark.

Other than the Bynum signing and possibly Bennett, I don't think he's been that horrible.

If Cleveland offered that trade ny would be stupid not to do it waiters can be a star next to melo. Shump has a long way to go.

I would do it if nothing else of relevance is available. I would not do a deal just to do one but shumpert looks like he needs a change and so does waiters. It might be a win win

Dion Waiters: "Without a doubt, I really believe that [I’ll eventually be the best shooting guard in the NBA]. This year, I’m going to show a lot of people who doubted me and still doubt me. I’m going to show them. And I don’t need praise and all of that. I just want to be respected. I’m coming. That’s all I have to say. I’ve taken my work ethic to another level and I feel as though I still have something to prove. So, watch out."

He and Melo had the green light when they were stars at Syracuse, neither one can play defense and want the ball in their hands.
The two would be combustible relationship. Waiters claimed that Kyrie Irving has the ball in his hands too much, and he and Tristan Thompson don't want to pass him the ball unless he's wide open. LOL

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Watching him at cuse and now in Cleveland he's a special talent why the knock on defense he looks better on that side of the ball then any knick right now... I think waiters would flourish in nyc and be a star. If we could some how get Lin back a Lin waiters melo amare Tyson or Andre would be fun to watch

Supposedly they were rumored to be offering JR during free agency. But then I can see Philly just laughing in the NYK face with that and mine because Turner is a very good player and JR is well you all know.

The trade is a lateral move. We'd be getting more talent in exchange for more headcase. The Knicks can't groom talent, remember that. We need high character guys who can also play.
Rose is not the answer.

He will see a lot if the same here Melo doesn't pass and JR doesn't do that essentially he would be in the same predicament.

I don't think Philly wants to tie up cap space so I don't know if they take JR. I think that was why they didn't give Turner a qualifying offer. He is playing great. I know he was really upset about Jrue being traded.
