Nothing beats an eye test in basketball. When you watch him play, his talent is obvious. There was a time when Jermaine O'Neal was putting up paltry numbers before being traded and look what he turned into. In my opinion, Derrick Williams can have an Evan Turner like emergence if given an opportunity.

Agreed. There's no way we could get this guy for Shumpert OR THJ -- neither guy has looked good for us at all so far. For both maybe...And someone else said it -- maybe Felton as well to make the salaries work.

Would appreciate it if you guys would answer what I asked Eny.

Laterally speaking, I think he is lacking but still no Melo. He has exceptionally long arms and seems to understand how to play defense within his physical limitations. Because of that, I think he is a better positional defender than man defender ala Gallo. Those "limitations" might be a bit overstated though because I thought he did a solid job against Melo who only shot 38.1% that game and only got to the line 5 times that game in 44 minutes of play (Derrick played 21 minutes). Because of that length and girth, I think he's perfect for what we do defensively since he can seamlessly switch to the 4 position and spell Melo from the banging periodically. His promise though will be in his ability to score the basketball and rebound from his position. He's developed into a good shooter and had an M.O. in college for being a solid midrange player. I think his success really hinges on his ability to capitalize on this trait. If he does, we'd have ourselves a steal.

Thanks Doc, but I'm still trying to understand the dropoff in production. Why has he fallen out of favor with mgmt? It might be a red flag or a red herring.

It can be but it is not necessarily something to give pause to. Sometimes, you need a flyswatter instead of a sledgehammer to get things done. Their core is established with Ricky Rubio, Kevin Love, Kevin Martin and Big Pekovic. All they need are specialists around that, which Corey Brewer (defense and backdoor threat), Chase Budinger (a floor spacer) and Dante Cunningham (energy guy with a solid jump shot) are.

If I were a GM it would be something I would definitely want to know. I know Shump isn't an all star but I don't want to trade him unless we get measurably better. Minny is playing tonite against Indy at 7, going to see if I can catch him in action. Wish we hasn't given up on Diogu, that way we could have used Shump to get better at PG instead of shoring up our frontcourt.

I understand your concern about Williams but if Shumpert is traded, I prefer that its for another young guy that can mean something for us now and in the future. PG is definitely a concern but I don't see a guy out there that is available and that is also worth Shumpert. Hopefully we can get Jameer Nelson though, who is a lateral move but still an upgrade for us. I'm getting to get lampooned for saying this but, I'd be willing to include Hardaway if they were willing to give up Aaron Afflalo in the deal.

derrick williams has some talent and potential but can we please relax with the chris webber comparisons? webber was one of the best pf's to play in this league, he could shoot, he could rebound and he could definitely pass, arguably one of the best passing bigmen ever. williams hasn't shown the ability to be anywhere near a chris webber type so let's relax.

no one wants to take a crack at this?

It doesn't necessarily it's just stockpiling talent. Position wise the last thing we need is a 4 considering our 2 best offensive players and amare all play the 4.

I agree another young player with an upside would be nice if we're confident that he has a good chance of panning out. I haven't seen much of him this season but if we could work a deal for Shump and the Mavs Gael Mekel (if he looks as good now as he did in SL) that would be great. Has very good court vision, the kind of PG we need IMO, and maybe someone to build with.

That's why I said closer to cwebb or closer to TT.

That's the best I could do comparison wise

Classic tweener. Not tough enough to bang down low consistently and his shot hasn't been good enough to justify playing at 3. He needs to go to a team where there are low expectations and he can find his game.

If all that is involved is luc richard mbah a moute, I'll be pissed. That deal would be the epitome of "low risk-high reward" for the Kings.

What irritates me is that we never seem capable of making these types of moves. Any time we attempt to trade for dudes, we always overpay.
