speaking of annoying, sorry but this is garbage. First of all he's a player, and last I check they dont trade themselves. Second he was in a walk year in a year when the CBA was expiring. Getting a new deal under the old CBA wasnt stupid, it was smart. Its called life. Why not just call him greedy and stupid for not taking the mid level exception. Same posters spewing the same garbage while they dont even watch the games or cares what happens.
he had an opportunity to provide services at the price best suited to his actual value, which is clearly 13-15 million per year. but money comes before winning, ie price trumps value.
i can imagine a much better knick team in 2012-2013 and this year had he waited and been traded to a one year rental team... or screwed the nuggets by simply not getting any takers for the one year rental, or at least been able to leverage a much less costly trade.
but he is a very narrow-minded person and does not think about the big picture except through the lens of greenbacks.
what planet are you from? Who are you to tell Melo not to take what someone is offering him? For who's benefit? Its idiotic. Exactly what I have come to expect from the quality of posting around here. Zero basis in reality. Once in the history of pro sports can I remember guys taking less to make the team better and thats Wade/Lebron/Bosh, and lets be fair about that.. they took less for EACH OTHER, not for the HEAT. Lebron wasnt taking less money to give the Heat a better chance to field a great team. He took less to play with his buddies Bosh and Wade.If your going to regurgitate the same crap 40x a day in every thread at least be accurate about the situation.
Exactly. Also before you go crazy praising James and Bosh you have to remember that Florida has no state income tax. After Melo pays almost 9% state income tax his take home salary is close to identical to those guys.
14 million is 67% of 21 million not 91%. I agree that the income tax is a factor but I don't know what math you're doing to say that their salaries are almost identical when taking it into consideration. I think it was fair for melo to get his max contract before the cba revision and from what I remember there was 0 debate over whether he was a max player or not. On the other hand, now I'd like for him to take less as I feel we've already done him a solid with that last contract and he hasn't delivered much (which is only partially his fault). Age is important in determining a contract, it's a lot easier to offer 26 year old melo max money than it is to hand 27 million a year over to a player that will be on the wrong side of 30.
Melo makes $21,388, 953. He is taxed on that by NYS at a rate of 8.97%. It comes out to almost 2 million given to NYS. The difference in his salary and LBJ or Bosh's salary is $400,000 after you subtract the state tax from Melo's salary. Would he give up $400,000 to add a bosh or wade talent, absolutely.
