Thats why you just dont rush.

I'm sure Shumpert still has their eye though, not sure I'd do it unless JR and Felton go out as well.

Are you kidding? They are trying to dump salary and Novak is on the books for 3 more years. Camby was owed 7.5 million. Not sure what he was bought out for.

What are you talking about? Camby's deal was frontloaded and his third year is only 1 mil guaranteed.

He was scheduled to make 2.7 this season with a total of just over 3.5 mil left on his deal.....thats why Toronto accepted him, and when he got bought out, he gave up 2 mil of that....so he basically walked away with the team owing virtually NOTHING.

Phx accepts that all day.

And as far as Novak goes, just look at what Phx is doing now, bught out Beasley for basically the same amount he was due...in essence...paid to walk away.

Here is how you work Novaks deal, pay him THIS season, waive him on the next.....stretch his deal to the tune of 1 mil for the next three.

Then they get the same draft picks as a coup.

The point is though...you wait, tree leaves are supposed to fall off, but it rarely happens in the summer, wait til the season starts.

Its nice that you can figure out how it works for the Knicks but the Bargs trade was done in part to get rid of Novak's three year deal. Okafor's deal is done after this year. Novak has this year and two more after that. Camby's third year was cap friendly but not as cap friendly as what the suns are looking for, especially if you add a salary cap boat anchor contract like Novak's to the deal. Also, I don't see any teams trading for a contract they are planning on using the stretch provision for. Trashing the Knicks is fine but keep it real.

The Bargnani deal was done for one reason...to keep Melo happy since he needs more help scoring.

Camby is done, Houston might actually get something for that.

I'm very aware of what Novaks deal is and that deal can be STRETCHED once waived, and do you seriously believe Phx really cares about something like that? They paid Beasley way more to walk away.

Waiting for a better deal isn't trashing the Knicks, they do that fine on their own....as long as I see Chris Smith on the bench the team should be trashed, fined, and disbarred.

The point is...if Dragic gets moved I guarantee it will be for less than what we gave up for Bargnani.

Absolutely, Phoenix cares about something like that. Robert Sarver is one of the cheapest owners in the league. The guy has sold away draft picks that could've been used to select Rajon Rondo, David Lee, Monta Ellis, Ersan Ilyasova and/or Rudy Fernandez. Them letting Beasley go isn't reflective of Sarver's spending habits; it is more than exception to the rule.

Nope, they've done quite the opposite, they overpay marginal talent.

In 2010, the Phoenix Suns did anything but lay low. After losing Amare Stoudemire and GM Steve Kerr, the Suns quickly signed "Amare Lite" Hakim Warrick to an $18 million deal less than 24 hours later on July 2. With the die cast, the Suns showed the world they were all in for a 2010 bondo job. Within ten days, they had signed Josh Childress for $35 million and traded for Hedo Turkoglu's monster contract. All before a new front office was hired to manage the team going forward.

"On July 1, 2012, the first day of free agency, the Suns visited their top free agent target, Michael Beasley, and offered $18 million over three seasons. They envisioned Beasley in his perfect incarnation - a dialed-in, matured small forward who could carry the scoring load for the offensively-challenged Suns.

By July 4, the Suns had traded Steve Nash for 4 draft picks, got verbal agreement to sign Goran Dragic for up to $34 million, Beasley for up to $18 million and made a restricted free-agent offer to SG Eric Gordon for $48 million. That's $100 million committed within four days of free agency, folks."

The only "exception" is they dont spend on odd years.

Even so, the Suns have consistently managed to stay below the league average as far as payrolls are concerned. This season, they have the 27th highest payroll in the league. I have to admit though that I forgot about those terrible contracts they signed after losing Amar're. Maybe Sarver is just stupid, lol.

I wont fault him for not paying above what he has to, but the guy isnt frugal, even though reports say so.

He also wanted to keep amare, and was will to give him that last year for free if he could play in years 3 and 4 a certain amount.

Cant say he did that with Nash though, but at 38 i cant blame him.

He's signed off on alot of suspect deals in recent years.

As much as I liked Goran Dragic the few times I saw him play, (i) I do not believe we have the combination of salary and youth to trade for him in a manner that makes sense for the Knicks and (ii) I do not want to give up on the young players that we have.

PG seems like an unfortunate position for us for the next 3 years because, while I love Felton's heart and attitude, I find his failure to stay in front of his man and fight through picks a difficult way to build a defensive powerhouse.

I may have been the only person to applaud the attempt to get ShumpShump to run the PG, because he has the potential to shift the PG position into a defensive mismatch in our favor. That said, if he can't/won't learn the position, it remains difficult to have a defensive minded team with sub par defenders at multiple positions.

To bring it home, I don't see Dragic as a defensive upgrade (at least not by much). I think on the right team he could be in the top third of Assist leaders...but until this team can close out the perimeter and keep the guards out of the paint, I think trading for Dragic would be further mortgaging the future for a nominal benefit.

Note: I am a huge ShumpShump fan... hoping this is the year he takes it to the next level. Really would have loved to see him as PG in the starting lineup with the responsibility solely to get the ball past halfcourt and into Melo's hands... Shump/Smith/Metta/Melo/Chandler...it works in my head.

You know I gonna spin wit it
