and the same folks who blame him for his poor record coaching Duhon and David Lee's Knicks would be crying about how his ignoring defense cost us.

Now we have a coach Melo loves, has taken JR under his wing, has a terrible playoff record, runs MDAs offense (plus as may ISOs as Melo wants) and the Knicks still suck on defense. Hmmm.... maybe just maybe its the players.

Woody is gone after this year's first round exit

Ah yes, I forgot MDA invented the pick and roll..18-24 to 18-6 with the same exact roster..Results doesn't matter anymore??
We complain when a coach gets the most out if his players..I must be living in an alternate Universe..

Woodson is Avg at best, and i say this because he's great at nothing..yeah he got melo and JR to buy in but most of the VETS (kidd sheed tyson, KT) had a hand in that.

Melo still plays defense when he wants to, JR still doesn't get it, Amare is still a suspect defender, Tyson is still Tyson no improvement in any area since he signed on, and our overall defense is still the middle of the pack.

When Don nelson got fired from the knicks even though he was 3 or 4 games over .500, the roster wasn't a true contender, but they should have been better then there record..Some how I think woody is heading in the same path..

Woodson is a goner after this season unless there is a dramatic uptick in the defense. I know we've only been watching preseason game, but they look porous and lost at the defensive end. For that matter, the offense looks unhinged too. I am anxiously awaiting tonight's game, which is the dress rehearsal for the season's opener. Maybe then we'll see a rollout of this year's game plan.

Yup. Barring a miracle turnaround year by Bargnani(doubtful based on the preseason), we'll start out the gates slow with all our injuries, end up a middle seed, and potentially be bounced early in the playoffs.

I hope I'm dead wrong...but if this is the case, Woody C YA!!!

Nobody seems to understand that when woodson has a full roster he is fkn cluelsss on both ends. he tries to give guys token minutes to keep them happy knowing darn well that thats not going to work at all. Playing more then 9/10 guys is a recipe for disaster, confusion, and utter fustration.

I brought this topic up, and I see poster playing naive talking about it's preseason woodsons ok...Really, the guys he gave the most time to didn't even make the team except for murry, wtf was that about..

Woodson took an 18-24 team, went 18-6 and made the playoffs...Next season he went 54-28..U're complaint is that he played guys he eventually cut...You are asking when will he be canned???..He has done be best job thus far since JVG despite all the high profile names that was in here..Relax and let the season play out..

I'm not impress by his win loss record one bit, it would have been impressive if he had a roster that changed up every 90 days like MDA had to deal with. That 18-24 record he inherited was base on a malcontent star player who refuse to buy in to anything his coach told him to do, so spear me the applause, and the whoo whoo, hip hip horay shaningans..

You look at the rosters that DON CHANEY, and Lenny Wilkens inherited, look at the battle Larry Brown had with his PG, and the stupid trades that brought in more malcontent(steve francis)players.

These High profile coaches were giving a bull sht hand with no spades, mean while Woody was giving a solid roster and all he had to do was flip the switch on his star player so he can have some accountability and all of a sudden im suppose to be impress..

When woodson had his full roster in jan and part of feb of last year, we played 500 ball at best.

When you have very good coach you know what that coach brings, it's either a high level of offense or a very good defense mind set. Woodson tries to sprinkle MDA's system in his offense, but all he gets is shoot a 3 at will when open. If he really use the system properly, FELTON would be a better facilitator, and we wouldn't have melo constantly shooting below 40%.

Those are excuses..U can't hide from what MDA is currently doing in LA..No different..The results are the results..I'll take an average coach overachieving over a high profile who has his team underachieving...Proof is in the pudding...

PS Larry Brown asked for Steve Francis...He wanted Reezy gone...LB was starting cats in their home town...Classic..

LOl that was classic, but that just brings more credit to my opinion on why those coaches never had what woodson had/has, which is NO DRAMA.

For all the people that say the preseason means nothing, the lakers are a prime example at how the preseason is relavent..The lakers looked horrible in preseason last year going 0-8 under mike brown, a clear sign that the Howard thing wasn't going to be the least bit easy. MDA once again inherited a injury riddle team with a malcontent soon to be FA star player, who had no desire to run up and down the court, no training camp, and No pg for the 1st month or so, and he himself was limping around

you think if MDA inherited a Roster like say...Denver, he wouldn't have won 50+ games easily.

I did my research, Not too many teams that have a below avg preseason that translates into a top 4 conference team..

Didn't the Knicks have the same preseason record last year? They won their first 6 games and went 11-4 in November.

VMart - in essence, what you wrote is that Mike Woodson does not have the talent to win, but fire him anyway.

Sheesh.

Yes I would fire him but then again no one will win a championship with this roster, so getting someone new will do nothing for getting a championship. With that said I have always maintained Woody is a good regular season coach. But I would fire him for his playoff coaching. Creativity is lacking and execution take a back seat to iso ball.

Woody sucks. He runs MDA's offense and these guys still suck on defense (something all the anti-MDA guys constantly said was a coaching problem).

Woody's big accomplishment was getting a career year out of JR, only to have it blow up in his face in the playoffs when he went right back to vintage JR and pretty much cost us a trip to the conference finals to play the Heat.

JVG would actually be great, because he will coach defense and with Shump/MWP/Chandler/Felton he would have some parts to work with. Cant picture a scenario where he comes here. He will want some control and only corporate drones need to apply for MSG jobs. Woody is a good company man. When we get bounced in the first round he will get whacked then

fair assessment on all counts. JVG will never return. Hope Woody goes sooner, but probably wont happen

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

I don't understand why if Woodson is unsure he doesn't just go with what he knows worked. He had something he could lean on in Prigs, Felton, Shump, Melo and Tyson. He knew that they played well and had something he could go back to if he was in a tough situation with this new roster.

This offense Woody is trotting out is pure garbage. It's just guys out there winging it and Melo chucking low % shots. This is horrid decision making. This team seems like it's too much for Woody to handle. Too many options. I hope i'm wrong, but given the fact that he wasn't exactly an X's and O's genius it's not that unbelievable to think he's in over his head right now. Dude had all summer and a full preseason and he's got NOTHING right now in terms of how to use this roster.

I keep saying this over and over, when woodson has options his clueless. i don't want prigs starting, he's to slow, and he turns down open shots like the plaugue..

Woodson is sad when it comes to making adjustments, pitiful...and as long as he has all these players healthy, were in trouble..

JVG

Woodson

Eight coaches in 12 years and we think ridding ourselves of Woodson will bring forth some mystical coach?
some of y'all are panicking after a 1-2 start?

You know what's crazy is that Toure Murry has more natural PG instincts than Felton and Murry doesn't even know what he's doing yet. I'd love to see Murry get some spot minutes to see what he can do and if he can get his feet wet at this level. Murry has some talents we don't have from our other PG's. I know he's a rook, but i'd like to see him just the same. Heck we ain't playin Beno, so why not play the kid a few minutes and see if we can develop him.

without researching other squads- I'm not sure that is that different from most other NBA teams.

But, I don't think changing the coach is going to radically turn things around. We're a flawed roster.

However, I do think Dolan has expectations and through three games, can't be very happy.

Lets just say good teams don't change often. Im not saying its the playaers "fault", just that we have the wrong guy for the roster, or we change the roster and it don't fit the coach.

Bad planning. Wait!, Im assumig there is a plan?
