Wasn't the LA Lakers supposed to dethrone the Heat last year with the big 4 LOLOL? The Bulls with a healthy Rose and the Pacers with a healthy Granger are still better, let alone the Heat. Maybe if they had replaced Deron with Rondo, I'd give you that, but you still have the worst overpaid backcourt in the NBA in Marbury 2.0 and ISO Joe. Also, isn't Broke Lopez foot broke again?

You just can't slap together some team and hope to dethrone the Heat. Heat's core been playing together for 3 seasons now and 3 straight NBA Finals with back to back rings. I could see maybe the Nets move up to 3 or 4 seed and possible division title over the Knicks, but KG(37) and Pierce(35) are now the it guys that'll beat the Heat?

My ass LOL.

THIS IS what some of us were saying about this team.. but we were called haters..

Big difference. The core players the Knicks acquired (Melo, Chandler, Stat), were supposed to be in the prime of their careers.

The Nyets are getting PP and KG in the twilight of their careers, sorta like Karl Malone and Gary Payton playing with the Kobe and Shaq Lakers to get that ring before retiring.

It could work...circa 2007 LOL.

Sorry, you guys are still haters.

I think Pierce off the bench in the role Ginobli has played with SAS

KG limited minutes at the PF and back up center.

I want to know is Blatch is still on the team?

Bench? Is Tayshawn Taylor ready for back up duty? They have three Euros. The Bogonovitch (SPELLING) is highly thought of.

IM thinking he could start?

What is the net effect of BroPez playing along side KG?

Crunch time:

Deron
JJ
Pierce
KG
BroPez.

Long way until Tip off time to figure out the roster.

if anything you wan to have johnson come off the bench. he doesn't have good enough passing instincts to be a good starter. he likes the ball in his hands way too much-- that is a bench player.

lets face it the collective BBIQ of the nets just rocketed to among the top 3 in the league, and i mean as a continuum of kidd as the coach to the floor.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

right "supposed" to be, but those of us who knew better didn't fall for the banana in the tail pipe trick again...

Amare and his knees, Chandler and his past health and even the mileage on carmelo, was a factor.. so those of us who were not looking at things through homer glasses knew better..

I love the Knicks and i want them to win so damn badly. However I try to be as honest as i can. In 2010 we all had hopes of Lebron he was basically our hope of a title. Not only did miami get him but they got 2 of the other top FA in that class. We all knew Amare would break down at some point when we signed him but i doubt anybody thought he would break down in the 2nd year. Tyson got paid because he wona title but he has no offensive skills and even his defense disappears sometimes. Melo is a great scorer in fact he is a top 3 scorer however he just doesnt have the ability to make the team better especially in his playoof runs.

If the Nets use their taxpayer mid-level exception -- and why wouldn't they? -- their total payroll + tax will be $176 million in '13-'14.

So basically, a $3 million mid-level player will cost the Nets a total of $15 million next season including tax.

Awesome trade for the Nets. With an all star at every position and the best front court in the Nba they now have a legitimate shot at unseating the Heat. The heat have a lot of trouble with big front courts, Pacers, and big trouble with experienced players, Spurs. If I'm the Heat, this is one team I wish I don't have to see in the playoffs. Yes the only have a two year window, but you know what? A window is a window. If they somehow do fail to get a championship in the next two years, Garnett and pierce salaries come off the books and the Nets can then target free agency. They don't have to deal with Gerald Wallace's multi-year contract. No matter how you slice this one, the Nets just executed an unbelievable play here.

I agree. Kudos to them for having a plan and sticking with it despite the huge cap implications.

Yup i mean i dont like Lebron as a person since i think he is very pompous/pampered but he would have instantly made us a title contender. I mean felton lebron amare(when helathy) along with gallo and chandler would have been very intersting in the 2010-2011 season

This thread almost made me pee my pants laughing as well as some of the comments. People here were/are irate over the Melo trade yet the Nets trade a good young player and 3 first round draft picks for 2 players on the downside of their careers but it's all good? In fact, so good that the Nets can now beat the Heat and possibly win a chip?

Anyone interested in buying the Brooklyn Bridge for $10?

yea - those two players on the downside of their career nearly came back against us, and in fact did make knick fans sweat big time.

I think I would trade Melo for Pierce and KG straight up- so, worth it.

I can't say that, without watching them play.

I know they will have the most pressure in the NBA.

And pressure bust pipes...Just ask the Lakers.

The Celtics will acquire first round picks from the Nets, Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks and Keith Bogans (sign-and-trade) from the Nets for Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry.

Are you serious? I think the Celtics came off great with this trade.

I know Wallace and Humphries are way over paid, but that doesn't mean they can't play.

MarShon Brooks is a very nice young player.....

Bogans is a vet with locker room leadership.....

I think the Celtics did a great job, versus letting them walk for nothing.

They put themselves in a position to rebuild quicker than you think, while looking half decent. They still have Rondo too?

All they need is for 1 player from all those draft picks to be a star. Or simply trade all those assets and pickup a star veteran, and recreate that KG and Ray Allen pickups....

They will have money, draft picks, assets, cap space.....

Nets did all of that for 1 yr? With a rookie coach to blend this all together? In one year? Really....Will be interesting to see!

It wasn't those two players. It was Avery Bradley. KG and Pierce couldn't wait to get home and spend time with their families. Right now, all I can see is an old halfcourt team that's suspect at almost every starting position. Not feeling KG as a starting power forward anymore. We'll see, but I don't see the Pacers or Heat trembling in fear of the Nets next year.

Nets are a top 3 team immediately, and if they can back it up with some balls i can easily see them winning championship next season,
