Sixth Man Of The Year
And durable too
J.R. Smith began this season wanting to be the Knicks’ starting shooting guard. Coach Mike Woodson needed scoring off the bench, which left Smith upset for much of training camp. But Smith played the minutes of a starter and never missed a game this season because of injury as he became the Knicks’ second scoring option behind Carmelo Anthony.
Now, after the best season of his nine-year career, Smith will win the N.B.A.’s Sixth Man of the Year Award Monday afternoon, a person with knowledge of the result said.
