Melo's legacy is going to be the same as Bernard King's if he doesn't win a title. Great scorer who couldn't get a chip. It is what it is.

Now if he were to ever win a title here....it would put him above Messier and into the ranks of Jeter, Namath, etc.

I'm a huge fan of all 4 major sports, but there's nothing bigger than Knicks basketball in this town when the Knicks are contenders. I can't imagine how it would be if we won.

I think there are many pages to be written yet before we know what the ending/legacy is. Going way past this year. Example - say we get knocked out in the 2nd round by Indiana, but then come back better next year and win and so on. Legacies are funny things like that - they are very fluid up the very end.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Melo's legacy will be tested in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs. Really, it is ECF or bust this year.

Yes, but standards are much lower than they were for the '90s Knicks. My guess is that one ECF appearance will be enough for him to be idolized by most of the fan base.

As far as I can tell most of the fan base already idolizes him. I can also say for sure that I will NEVER idolize him, even he wins a ring or two. But that's just me, and I am not into idolizing overpaid diva types.

Papabear Says

Well who do you idolize?

Not too many people. But one of the key criteria for me to idolize someone is that they have to put their team ahead of their own personal goals or at the workplace they have to put their company ahead of their own chances of climbing the corporate ladder.

To me it seems MElo is more interested in being scoring champ or MVP than leading the Knicks to greatness, if the second happens it will be a byproduct of the first not the other way round.

In the current NBA, I can maybe see myself iodlizing Kevin Garnett and Rondo. Not saying I do, just answering your question.

That's laughable. No way a real Knicks fan would even remotely consider idolizing Kevin Garnett or Rajon Rondo. Respect maybe, but not "idolize".

That's what you got from my post? LOL

True..but not getting to the ECF this year just makes it a lot harder for Melo. ECF at least will pacify everybody and buys him another year.

I take it if you were to put 2 guys on a pedestal, it'd be KG and Rondo. Me, being a diehard Knicks fan, see this as blasphemy. Rooting for the enemy always is. So what's your explanation, compadre?

Kind of sad that the centerpiece of the best team we've been able to watch since the 1993-94 squad just buys him just another year, no?

It is sad, but we are suffering Knick fans. You think if we go ECF this year and then exit out in the 1st or 2nd round next year would be acceptable? I think we go to the ECF this year then the acceptable goal next year will be going to the Finals. The 3rd year...you better win it all.

Melo and Woodson have taken a band of geriatric misfits too the playoffs.

Im happy we made the playoffs. I did not dream of getting the 2nd seed after it was announced Amare was going to miss the beginning of the season.

For those who are not reading challenged the explanation was already provided in my response to Papabear. And I don't really care whether you consider something blasphemy or not. He asked me a question which I answered.

Oh well. If winning your favorite sports team a world championship doesn't command praise and adulation, then I guess nothing will.

Actually it is an insult to tell someone they're not a real fan or they want the team to lose. It's pure fan hate - hatred for some of the fellow Knicks' fans here.

Melo leads us to a championship this year his legacy will be cemented. He will be worshipped just like clyde messier jeter etc. All it takes is 1 ring.

This is the angle I am coming from. Not the negative angle that some are taking. Melo leads us to our first championship in 40yrs and his legacy is cemented and immortalized instantly. No need to wait til the end of his career. Every other accomplishment is just icing. We are not the lakers and celtics. All it takes is one ring

If Melo leads this team to a championship I will never watch another Knick game. I will not tolerate this imposter in a Knick uniform ruining all our fun. The Knicks have fallen quite far from their peak just five short years ago.

I would just like to post a video to remind everybody about just some of what we've been missing.

"He's a man's man, and he's seen the light" -- on Isiah Thomas
"I can't teach all the children. It's impossible" --on his desire to help the kids
"That's my better ho...my better half" --when his wife called on his cell phone during the interview
"She's been praying for this day forever. And it finally happened yesterday when I kissed her. And I felt her body, and I felt her soul. I was delighted to be kissing her." --on his sister Stephanie

This is what we need to get back to.

https:// It's not so hard.

Not much "Legacy" other than a pathetic knick history.

Its a really good season so far.

Looks more like a recovering addict.

"Went a month without a drink"
"didn't steal for 2 months"
"ate 3 square meals for first time in 4 years"
"Went to AA meetings"

Its nice, its a start.

Put that next to some other franchises and its a joke!

But, its a step in the right directions.

Naturally we don't make it out of 1st round its also "legacy".

Why celebrate something that has yet to happen?

Its why Barkley was not so high on the team!

Woodson did a great job, melo stepped up, and the competition lacked to get the 2 seed.

WE are tied for 6th in the league, shows the strenght out west as barameter.

Im excited over the potential for the playoffs for the first time in a LOOOOOOOOOONg time!

Bernard King was idolized by numerous Knick fans. He has a second round appearance on his Knick resume along with a scoring title....Whats the difference?
