It's Lebron by a wide margin. Durant is losing ground and is avg 5 TOs a game lately. I thimk he is tied with Kobe at 113 since the A.S. break. Paul's team is floundering and his leadership is being questioned. Melo is healthy and playing well now but he wad too inconsistent while playing through injury.

Sidenote how good was the eastern conference back when Bron went to the championship? Should he still get a huge amount of credit yes. Also, eho was on his team. Seriously.

The East was brutal that year, which it had been ever since MJ retired. Only 2 teams even won 50 games that year, Detroit and Cleveland, and the Toronto Raptors of all teams was the 3rd seed (though, with only the 4th best record).

http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/CLE/2007.html

The rest of Cleveland's roster was garbage. Their top 5 in minutes played were Lebron, Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, and Varejao. The next 3 were Eric Snow, Sasha Pavlovic, and Donyell Marshall. That team struggles to even make the playoffs without Lebron let alone make it to the Finals.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

From eyeballing the numbers, I'd say Lebron's competition in the East now is about the same as it was then.

I don't think that would be enough. Lebron would have to play and have a lot of 0 for 10 shooting nights!

Papabear Says

Look at it this way. If Lebron was on the Knicks with the same team we have now and Melo was on the Heat what would be Lebron's chances of winning a ring and then what would Melo's chances be with the heat with Wade and Bosh???
You see so if Melo brings the Knicks close out season with the Knicks responding well it would mean Melo took a team with less talent than the Heat and put them on his back and made his game and thier game better.

If that happened, I believe the Knicks would be the front-runners to win the championship and the Heat would be about a .600 team. It would be a dream come true for us.

The heat would be a juggernaut, and still be the favorite over us. Lebron without another superstar is not the same lebron we see today.

Yeah, those 2 MVPs he won in Cleveland and carrying a terrible, terrible Cleveland team to a Finals appearance was, what, luck?

+1. I don't know where Dagger is getting this belief from. Here Lebron would have an all-star center and some very good role players.

Papabear Says

Yes an allstar center who can't shoot. Who would you want Bosh or Chandler?? Wake the hell up!! Lebron is winning because of the team he has around him. That starting 5 in Miami would be starting for any team in the league. But the Knick only have 1 and that is Chandler. So don't try and play me! Ask Lebron who would he like to have. Some of you guys will say anything even if you know it a lie. You know Damn well the Heat's starting lineup is better than ours. If my man Melo Takes this team to the finals he is the MVP hands down. Stop trying to play me that we have players better than Wade and Bosh. Hell just them without Lebron is a very good team, Now don't get me wrong I love my Knicks just the way they are.

The Knicks don't have anyone better than Wade including Melo, but that doesn't take away what LeBron has done this year. His efficiency is in Wilt/Michael territory this year and as much as I e job what Melo and the Knicks are doing, he doesn't have a shot.

I agree. It will likely be Lebron but the odds that it's not Lebron, Durant, or Paul are remarkably low - maybe one in trillion!

Theoretically speaking if he did that I could see them giving it to Melo. Just the last 3 games are historical. The last guy to avg 40+ & 60% was Jordan not LeBron, Kobe, or Durant. So if he did that for a month that's different level great.

if wade had to play with carmelo he would probably fake an injury all year.. carmelo on the heat does not make the heat better, than the current heat or knick team...

Other than the fact that they (LeBron, Melo & Wade) are all good friends with each other. You sound outrageously foolish when you post like this...

Wade is a better player than Melo but Wade is also probably the second or third best player in the league. Saying Wade is better than Melo is not some kind of put down as to Melo. Wade is amongst the all time great shooting guards, easily.

As for Melo and the MVP, the Knicks had to win the East for that to happen and they clearly won't be winning the east. MVP will be LeBron, again. I think the Knick's have had a GREAT season and done well despite the never ending injuries all season. Kudos to them.

that melo ranking on NBA.com was purely just throwing Melo a bone. He's had one of his most meaningful seasons in a while and kudos to him for that, but no way that he's topping Durant or LeBron for the MVP.

Why? The only thing Melo does better than Wade is get lots of PPG, and that's just because he takes more shots.

Melo also gets more rebounds. Wade has Lebron to take the heat off of him, who does Melo have? Melo has been breaking one record after another this year, give the man his due.

Obviously you have to adjust for position. 5 rebs a game for an SG is MUCH better than 6 from a PF.
I've already indicated what Melo or any player has to do for me to give credit.

And its easier for a guard to get his when the best player on the planet is on the floor with him. What metric are you going to use to factor that in?

Melo is not in the MVP race right now. It's James by a landslide. But that being said, I would love to see Melo get the MVP just to hear Colin Cowherd try to talk his way out of that...
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.
Is melo back in the M.V.P race
