Can you just imagine if Lin were still with us. He doesn't even have to shoot. His defense and passing ability is amazing. Of course on top of that, Lin could crank it up every now and then and go off his nuts.

I lost count over how many great passes he sends Omer's way and Omer screws it up.

Lin took the money and ran. Nothing wrong with that but there is a new cba and Morey knew the Knicks couldn't match his offer.

The Knicks couldn't match Lin's offer? You are one funny guy, the Knicks own his early bird's right, they could and should have match it.

Glad you think I am funny. The ramifications of the new cba can be seen with many of the moves and non moves being done. Harden and Gay were traded from championship contenders to avoid salary cap fines. Writers were bemoaning the lack of trades to cover because of the new cba. Bucher just wrote an article about how the Heat will not be able to keep their big three in place for the life of their contracts with the new cba but the Knicks could have kept Lin?

Harden and Gay play for small markets in OKC and Memphis; those teams don't have the same resources that we do. The Nets are spending $87M, $89M, and $77M through 2014-15 and they have $72M tied up in just 4 players in 2015-16; if they're not worried about the new luxury tax I don't see why we should be.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

Harden and Gay are also franchise type talents. Lin is a third year player that looks like he is going to have a nice career. They were used as an example because they are high level players on teams that could go to the finals

But the situations aren't comparable. No doubt that Harden should have been paid, I'm not as nearly as big a fan as Gay, but the reason they were traded as because of the small markets they play in.

Being 3rd seed isn't as bad as 2nd seed, cuz 2nd seed has to listen to everyone about how close 1st seed is from you and your mom and pop will always say "Why can't you be like your 1st seed?". Pressure man.. pressure.. glad we don't have pressure to be good anymore.. now we just wait for Jimmy Dol to sell the team *hic* *burp*

If not but the key is too go into the post season playing well not at or below .500 ball and think they are suddenly going to turn on a switch. Get back to winning at a .650-.700 clip again demolish any team standing in your way for a title

I understand the ramification of the new CBA, Gay, Harden and the Big three in Miami are all MAX MONEY TYPE PLAYERS, Lin WAS NOT, so there is a difference. Remember at one point the Knicks were trying to trade for Nash and were willing to give him close to 30 million dollars, so I don’t think they were so concern about salary cap penalties, that was just an excuse the Knicks gave to justify a poor decision.
Wait for the summer when the Knicks resign JR and give him a multiyear deal, how concern about cap penalties they will be than?

Not an excuse. Lin is due just under 15 mil in his third year, essentially max money. Morey knew what he was doing and knew that it would be almost impossible for the Knicks to match.

The cap on Lin and Asik 3 year contract is divided into 3 years. Both of them count for $8.37 million a year. Right now Houston has $46 million in team salary for 2013/2014 season. Assuming they cut Garcia, Houston has $12.04 million salary cap room this summer. Now, if that is still not enough, they can cut all non-guaranteed contract and their cap room goes up to $16.42 million.

Here is a great site that explains the Rockets CAP

Yes, Morey knew exactly what he was doing.

I think he got a bit lucky too- his big 3 moves were only possible due to the new cba. Yes he was smart to take advantage, but if the cba had been more in favour of the players, he wouldn't have Lin, Asik or Harden.

A lot of luck has to come with it but he put his team in the position to pounce on these moves when they were available. He basically blew up the team and collected assets. Everybody questioned him when he let Dragic and Lowry go, when he amnestied Scola, when he sent away Budinger a Houston favorite. Traded another Houston favorite in Battier for Thabeet who he thought had potential. Dude is not afraid to pull the trigger.
