These symptoms are the building blocks of pseudocompetence and usually will never be visible by others.

1) A mismatch between externally assessed competence or qualification and internally experienced competence or

2) Inappropriate anxiety or panic in anticipation of doing the relevant task.
3) Inappropriate strain or exhaustion after the task.
4) Relief instead of satisfaction on completion of a task.
5) Inability to carry over any sense of achievement to the next situation.
6) A recurrent conscious or unconscious fear of being found out, and of shame and humiliation.
7) A longing to tell others about the discomfort but having a fear of being called weak or unstable.

Obviously number 7 does not apply

18-5 would have been a good time to post this comment. Here, after a disappointing 26 game stretch and a bad home loss yesterday, it makes no sense.

At 18-5, there were those still posting fervently debating "the trade." Go back and look.

Not to say 'i told you so', but there really is no good time on this board to post about the neurotic tendencies of the Somber few.

You see neurotic tendencies of the somber few. I see a neurotic need to censor any critical statements about Carmelo.

The OP would seem to be about Knicks somberism in general, not specific to Melohate. Hmmmmmm, interesting subliminal there, huh?

And also, you are the one recommending censoring posts... Despite your obvious statistical prowess, you can truly be difficult to follow.

I know, I know, I should try the ignore button.

In The Scussin as Elite goes as follows...

Team records above .500 Teams

Playoff Teams

Spurs 18-9
Nuggets 17-11
Clippers 16-10
Heat 16-11
Thunder 14-8
Grizzlies 17-12
Knicks 12-11
Bulls 13-14
Golden State 13-14
Rockets 13-15
Boston 12-14
Pacers 11-14
Hawks 11-15
Nets 9-18
Bucks 9-15
Jazz 7-17

Outside Looking In

Portland 11-14
Sixers 8-18
Lakers 10-20

This is taking into account no other metrics. Ironic enough with exception to the Thunder as we can see every team listed above has played more above .500 teams than the Knicks, in most cases quite a bit more than us. We do post a winning record nevertheless but look at DAT NUGGETS how do they do it...

Flows... hmmm...
Offense - Melo, Stat(may be), JR (sometimes)... and that's it.
Defense - Chandler (half of the time), Shupm (may be some day)... and that's it.
So how the team with so limited personal on both ends can be elite?
I guess by plain a team ball , executing the plan of the great coach (is Woody great?).
I think we did it when season started guided by presence and authority of our veterans...
All this is gone, the veterans are broken (as expected) and the coach is just an average Joe-coach (but the bird is not average).
So looks perfectly normal to me. No gimmicks.

Let's break it down:
1) Someone posts about the general neuroses of the Somberites.
2) You respond that this is not the time or the place for such posts. (In essence, Somber don't tolerate critical comments on Somberism)
3) I point out that even at your acceptable high water mark for Somber criticism, such criticism was not acceptable then, either.
4) I further point out that the criticism of Knicks Somberism is not necessarily solely a Melolove defensive reflex.
5) You point out that only homerific censorism is out of bounds. Hence, this leaves Somberanian censorism as completely reasonable.

I'm a Melolover. I've posted negativity about our Starmooby from time to time. The bus incident. Talking numbers about LovableLin.

UltimateKnicks Love. Slightly fair and just slightly imbalanced towards the blue and orange. Is that really so difficult to understand?

NY Knickerbockers record Dec. 15 thru Feb. 10 2013
15-12
15 wins
12 losses (5 wins 7 losses), a stellar 5 wins OR 7 loses of last 12 games played at Da' Garden doesnt sound like a leading team
to this knick fan.

Its wonderful the Knicks has a good /decent road record. 5-7 at home isn't going to bode well especially now rest of NBA GOOD teams
can come to your gym rap you on the chin & unless 3's are going down OR your playing D' Knicks are never in the game OR always in
rear hiney of the visitors in Da Garden.

However the Knicks once again showing symptoms of the Brooklyn Nets,
when the elite BIG boyz NBA teams are ready to ball .. Knickerbockers aren't up for the challenges

Knicks are giving up way to many areas of the game without taking away a single damn thing the other team is trying to do
in their game plan.

Once again Mike Woodson is gonna spend times preaching and praising the other team Knick opponent this afternoon the Clipper-less among the new elite teams. *Excuses, excuses.

I dont mind losing its how Knicks are losing, simply inept Or maybe simply Knicks aren't a good home team anymore.

Tell me something
when was last Knickerbocker game eh ? that Knicks really played hard and lost
and you'd say *wow Our guys played hard and with some guts and nearly did this OR that but came a little short.

Which game is that eh ? Don't touch any of those BULLs games above nor the games against Lakers (road) or Nets (msg)
both Brooklyn and Lakers were having issues when we played them.

Maybe ? the Blazer loss at home, was last time NY played a game hard with some guts

Today..
We all wonder which Knicks team is going to show up at their own gym MADISON SQ Garden for a full 4 quarters of basketball.

FACT. Knicks were lucky to beat CAVs at MSG by 1pt, in the Kylie Irving show. NYK lucky to beat Minn. at their gym again few wks later.
2 bad teams, then the elite HAWKs lucky to escape with win their.

These days of 2013 Knickerbockers ain't so lucky.

Knicks point guards getting beat,
Knicks bigs getting beat on boards and invisible defense.
Knicks shooting is only thing that wins them games from December 2012 thru today Feb. 10 2013
Knicks Bench is a joke & rest of NBA is on to their flaws.

All in all equates to mediocre team play & mediocre coaching from any Adjustments Mike Woodson can make
a 40 yr. Grant Hill whom got dusted off with a broom & he plays Carmelo Anthony today & that was the rest of that
Game, match & set and OVER !

Amazing! shooooots

This is nonsense leading up to AllStar NBA break. Knicks are waiting for their bigs Camby + Sheed combined
what 73 or 74 yrs of ages to come back and rescue Knicks to give them some physical presence.

Knicks right now have NO IDENTITY on what Coach Michael Woodson wants to do I don't like it, their record isn't impressive at this point. They will be one & done in playoffs, fans will be disappointed before all the 2013 playoff fun proper ly starts..

This post makes no sense== unless their is a reason to fix the team of which you have none. Maybe we can wait and trade Shumpert for Durant and a first This certainly is a good team--but its not a win now championship team

Briggs bro
If team knick recent slide & 7 losses in 12 games at msg gym is fine with you
Power to you brother, its mediocre & this post has nothing to do with "win now title"
As you mention nor Shumpert's health.

Fix? Listen brother even the champ teams of Heat, Mavs, LAL, Celts & even Jordan teams prior
Fixed things so your remark makes zip sense. Knick team dont rebound nor defend nor do other things
To correct Knick losses.

Thus Knicks stink in games losses & I'm talking bout the Knicks mediocrity.

Same mediocre thinking & Acceptance of these flaws which is same as
Being satisfied with 7th or 8th place seed finishes of Knick teams in post Pat Ewing era.
Sound like same feable attitudes of some fans of local Met or Jet fans use to such failings to
Take the next step, is that hard to make sense of?

I dont care for their slide but if you like poor losses then its cool
Not Cool for me & i will always run my huge mouth about our knickerbockers

The team is good, not great. They are falling into what most people hoped they could be a mid 50 win team and perhaps demonstrate an ability to make it to ECF's.

The east is week which makes us look good. Melo is having a great season and getting a lot of deserved attention, and there are not great teams in teh east.

We are not trending as a super hot elite team and have not for some time.

Its not a disaster, but after a hot start and beating Miami and the Spurs fans have high expectations now.

Personally this team is much better than I thought they were going to be but they are trending to where I first expected.

Nice thing is this team has the ability to win, and can go deep in teh playoffs.

There is hope. This is new to many of us.

Good post Nalod. I think the team is better than the recent past but I think the high expectations also come from a lot of the tough talk from the team management, media and fans - All this **** about win now, and no excuses and great veteran depth and whatever other crap people made up. I think what reallly fuelled it was the defense we showed in he first few games and the bandwagon fans got their act going and the trolls started jumping up and down.

I think two things bother me the most:
1. Complete lack of structured offense - Woody wasn't kidding about dumping it to Melo all the time
2. Complacency - As othters pointed out earlier in the thread - There are poeple acting like we are instant championship contenders because we are in second spot in he Leastern conference. History is littered with high seeds that couldn't even get out of he first round.

The 50 something wins is probably where we will end up. I just don't see how that makes us great or why it's such a big deal given we have the highest payroll and a team that's clearly built for the short term, more like immediate term.

And then there are the ones who make the injury excuses and point out that Felton was out for so long. I would give that more credibility if we actually ran a offense which we don't. And two other teams in the east are showing us how to paly without the lead PG who also happens to be the leader of the team - Check Bulls and Celtics(post Rondo).

I don't know I am not convinced we are getting out of he first round, but yes the team is definitely doing better than last year.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Expect more of the same tonight for, a steady diet of pick-and-rolls to defend. An Achilles Heel explained:
Mike Woodson has gone over it countless times with his team. The players watched more film on the pick-and-roll coverage, including examples of when it was defended properly early in the season.

The players came away with a collective result: it's all about execution, effort and communication.

"We were just beating ourselves," Carmelo Anthony said of the film from the loss to the Clippers. "Hustle plays, not helping one another on the defensive end, not communicating. Things that we've been doing we just had a little bit of slippage. But we'll get back into it."

When you watch games from the early part of the season, the schemes haven't changed. What is mostly noticeable is the effort and execution. It's a guard not staying tight to his man through a screen and it's the big man not pushing up to slow down the guard coming off the screen. It's the positioning of the help defense and the communication on switches.

Basically, it's all about the focus and intensity, which were so sharp at the start of the season and has since waned. We've seen this team get stops when it absolutely had to and we've seen it look awful when the urgency was missing.

For the Knicks to be seriously considered contenders, they have to find that urgency again in the final 32 games after the all-star break.
