If we were in the West we would be in 4th place with Gallo's Knuggetts and David Lee's Warriors right at our heels.

If your a Knick fan this has been a good season and there is plenty to be happy about. Enjoy the journey

which wouldn't be a bad thing either. What do you want, 80wins.

A championship, I assume - not just being a top 8 team. What should he want? What do you want?

So do all the NBA teams. Very few have actually won it all and most of them have been spread among just a few teams. People don't understand how hard it truly is to put together a championship roster and how hard it is to win it all. So many things have to go right along with a dash of luck. You can have the best team in the league by a large margin and still lose if struck with a bit of bad luck.

Yea but this is New York,

Boston and LA put up trophies regularly, New York doesn't

They should be challenging for the championship after that crazy rebuild, instead we're still somewhere in the top third of the league but far away from being a True Contender

Instead of Knicks love I'm reading about the Melo trade, how if we were in the West we wouldn't be as good, that Ray Felton is not that good and pro/con Melo thread? I understand that not all threads/posts are going to be positive and a decade of losing can play mind tricks but WOW. The reason I joined this forum is that there seemed to be a ton of intelligent Knicks fans and basketball fans in general. It seems that many are waiting for the wheels to fall off and are more content to discuss negatives over positives.

C'mon people! This is a NEW TEAM. Yeah the players have the same names across their chests but this is a different TEAM. We're over half way through the season and are a half game out of the #1 seed. I believe that this team can win it all this year.

All I can say is that I'm loving this season and loving this team. How about you?

Yeah, there is NO DEFENSE for the negative Nancy's posting here. Especially the butt hurt veterans of the board who, I wish would become lurkers or, even better, go become Houston or Denver fans.

We suffered through some torturous seasons but, the Knicks Winter is over, we enjoyed the hope brought on by Spring and now that light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter and brighter as the season progresses.

For every positive mention of our hero's, someone feel the need to chime in with a negative...wtf is that all about. One doesn't need or have to be a homer to feel ecstatic about what is happen with our favorite ballers. One doesn't have to be a homer to be pleased with Amare and Co. YOU ONLY NEED TO BE A FAN.

For some reason, guys feel the need to play The Devil's Advocate and Bam (as Dan likes to say on PTI) we have to endure the Melo haters and then true fans chime in to counter and the next thing you know.....THREAD HIJACK.

I love this team, I love this game and I love NEW YORK

the winter was over two years ago when we had one of the youngest teams in the NBA and were winning games and beating the best teams in the NBA. Then it came back. The winter was over this time last year when your hero who had quit on the team got hurt and Linsanity ran off a bunch of wins and made the Knicks relative again. Then it came back. Now the winter is over again this year right?

I hope your right!

This has been a great season thus far, but the reality is we dont know how good this team is. The East has been very weak and the Knicks have not been consistant and there are key players on this roster who are a older than dirt.

Ive enjoyed every win. Its great to the see the team playing so well. Seeing STAT round into shape certainly improves our outlook come postseason. You need real scoring to win those games, as we have seen in the past teams lead by 41% career post season volume shooters, DONT tend to do well in the playoffs, so it seems we may dodge that bullet and this team can actually accomplish something. That would be REALLY exciting. Time will tell.

someone obviously has misread my post. Melo is not MY personal hero. I referred to the team as a whole as my hero's. Also, nice of you to rewrite history. And please, lets not bring Linassity or D'Antoni into this. Guys were and still are INSANE about Melo NEEDING to fit in with Lin. Who the fuk was Lin. He was the one (as Jeff VanGundy said) who needed to learn to play with Anthony, the established VET. D'Anphony mis-used Melo, miscoached this team and I am damn glad that they are BOTH GONE.

Also, the winter ended THIS season. Any year you have Bibby and a broken Baron Davis as your point guard and an injured Stat on the shelf, you are experiencing the height of WINTER. Lin gave us a few day above freezing but, that is about it.

You compliment the team with a backhanded insult.....I was right that by making positive statements someone would chime in with the negative...even if they tried to camouflage it.

Also, how is 31-15 inconsistent. Inconsistent was life under D'Antoni where, even if your doing good, you might find yourself benched. Dude was so stubborn that if that he'd refuse to play someone just because the crowd wanted them. N8 was playing well pre-Allstar break but, once he won the dunk contest, coach benched him because he thought it would give N8 a big head. What an ass.

didnt camouflage a single thing. Your post is spot on with what has been pointed out over and over and over again. If you dont think this team is the best and Melo is the best your a hater. Good job. No camouflage needed on that one

Sorry. I am very pleased with the season from top to bottom, including everyone on the roster. Melo has played great. Amare has come back and is playing great. Woody has been solid. Shump is rounding into form. It could be skys the limit. Or it could be we are still build around a player that shoots a career 41% and has the worst playoff record of any NBA player in the last 20 years. So excuse me. Did I rewrite that history also? No. Im happy your so excited. Really... I am. Glad your enjoying. Myself I have been burnt by this team over and over again as mentioned above. So I will be happy to acknowledge their greatness when something has been accomplished. As of right now we are the Pacers, Grizz, Warriors, Nugs, Bulls, etc etc.. we are good, but we are not elite. I do hope we get there. In the meantime I will simply continue to enjoy the games. If thats ok with you.

once again, I never said that homer crap either. I said that whenever there are positive mentions, someone will chime in with a negative and I was right. Never said Melo was my hero but TEAM MEMBERS ARE MY HERO'S. Never said or inferred that you'd be a hater if you don't think Melo is great or the team. Your either trying to bait me or lack reading comprehension. Where did I state any uber love for Melo. PLEASE POINT IT OUT. When did I say your a hater if you not homering????

Please do not attribute things to me that I never wrote.

your right dude. You put it into two groups: "Melo haters" and "true fans"

Gee? Which one do you condsider me?

First you make 2posts that completely misrepresent my words and now you come back with this. Hows about admitting you were fuking wrong. Don't misrepresent someones words them come back with this lame ****. I even put the statements in Bold because you obviously can't comprehend. Just put me on ignore because that is where you are now in my book.

Weak? Wow, kind word seeing how awful the East is.
People talking about Denver in this thread should be happy they're playing in the West all the while having played 17 of their first 23 on the road.

The East being so bad and our insane 3pts % are the only reason we have a shot at the finals.

here's the thing. Its not the Knick's fault the east is weak. You can only beat who's on your schedule and the Knick's record is good. Also the East is getting a lot better and fast with the return of DRose and Granger. Boston looks hosed, but thats a very dangerous low seed that you really dont want to face in the first round.

Knicks under Woodson usually fair pretty well against dumb chuckers like Westbrook and Jennings. They would let Durant do this thing and focus on the rest. We beat OKC last year

Lebron scares me more than any other team. He showed last year that he will carry his team if need be in order to not lose. Wade sucked, Bosh was hurt and Lebron took over single handedly

You know what Guns, I'm just the opposite. I think this team more than most can maximize Miami's weaknesses. The only teams in the east that worry me are Chicago (they have the play hard gene hardwired into their consciousness) and Indiana. We haven't played them yet (I don't think) but, they are a lot like the Knicks and they play pretty good defense as well.

What we want is to avoid the 1 seed or 4-5 seed...If we don't it's curtains for this team.

Likely hood of what could take place...

Here's how I see things ending up

Miami
Pacers
Bulls
Knicks
Boston
Brooklyn
Sixers
Bucks

The reason I say this because we have to play the Pacers 2 more times, Boston 2 more times, Miami 2 more times, Hawks 2 more times, Golden State 2 times, Clippers 2 times, OKC 2 times, Utah 2 times, Cleveland 2 times, Denver, Philly, Memphis, Portland...

I see to many losses here because the majority are road games. Gotta hope we end up a 2-3 seed and for Bulls/Pacers/Boston/Brooklyn cancel each other in the first round somehow...

Bynum/Granger/Rose be lurking

I don't know about that. The one seed will likely face either Philly or Milwaukee imo. I think we steamroll either team.

I'm thinking 1rst and 2nd round. If we're a 1 seed we're more then likely going to have a nightmare matchup in the 2nd round. It would be either of Heat/Pacers/Bulls. We need to avoid these team until ECF at all costs.

We beat Indiana then they beat us in Indiana without Melo and Felton. In probably the ugliest offensive game in nba history. Their offense does not impress me and their D is not shutdown like Chicago. And Tyson owns Hibbert.

Chicago is going to be tough but at the same time we haven't played them at full strength either. Also chances are Rose is not going to be the same player this year and will only disrupt their chemistry on offense. They do play harder than anyone and have the best coach in the game aside from Pops so it would behoove teams to avoid them at all costs

I don't think Philly makes the playoffs. They are going to need a lot of time to build chemistry around Bynum. 20 or so games remaining in the season won't be enough to over take Boston. Maybe they can get past the Bucks

I like this team a lot (for me love only comes from a gritty playoff run)- I like all the players we have. I know they're not perfect and they all have flaws (some maddening at times), but they all seem to care and put in the effort. I'm not sure how they'll do come the playoffs, but I'm not someone who thinks its championship or nothing- I loved the 90s Knicks teams even though they never won it all, because they played with heart, passion and guts. Really hope this team can take it to that level in the playoffs.

In the meantime I'm really enjoying this season- it's great to see Felton and Amar'e redeem themselves and shut up their critics. Watching Melo and JR take a step forward has been great too. Even though they're not doing much I also just like having Camby and Kurt back too.

Keep it up Knicks- hopefully in years to come we'll look back on the 2013 team the way we do the 90s Knicks.

Philly has been winning of late...Only 5gms back of a 6th seed with Atlanta/Boston having major injuries and the Bucks too volatile with their level of play.

I like how some posters are all "if the Knicks don't win it all its a lost season" as if the Knicks have a recent history of winning it all multiple times. I'm loving this season. More than any in the last 20 years. Thing about me is I love every season cause its Knick basketball. Even the crappy seasons cause its Knick basketball. Call me a homer all you want I will wear it like a badge of Honor.

Gotta hope we end up a 2-3 seed and for Bulls/Pacers/Boston/Brooklyn cancel each other in the first round somehow...

if you end up being the division winner don't you automatically qualify for one of the top 3 seeds regardless if your record is worse than a second place divisional team? i mean we are looking like a division winner right now. worst-case scenario we are a 3rd seed and i think we can handle atlanta or milwaukee and then be up against it in round 2 which is the true measure of success, the first round being nothing but a revenue generator.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

No. Division winners are only guaranteed a top 4 spot, but really it matters little because records determine home court.

See Boston winning their division last year but playing the 5 seed on the road in game 1.

Division titles really hold zero worth, a main reason why Boston in particular doesn't even hang them up in the rafters.

Only the 1 and 2 seed are truly worth, the others are not not much of an advantage.

it's the regular season. don't get too excited about playing .670 ball. it's nice but this isn't the playoffs. how does this team project to do in the playoffs? that's what we should be looking at here. not the record alone but how the wins are being compiled. it's similar to looking at point totals for a player without looking at how many shots he took to get those points.

the league has 30 teams but lets be realistic here: only about 12 of those teams are worth a damn at the end of the day. basically the two top teams in each division are truly the better teams. the rest are mediocre and worse in a bloated league like the nba with a lot of talent dilution.

so that means that a good team should be able to defeat 60% of the opponents it faces which is exactly what the knicks are doing but with a more challenging second half schedule.

hey listen you're preaching to the choir: i have done this research and really, based on the history, the only two spots worth achieving are the top 2 seeds. but yeah i guess if a division winner has a worse record than a second place team in a different division the former is a 4th seed-- not good as the chances of winning the conference and the finals drop off appreciably at the 3rd seed and then precipitously as the 4th seed.
