This year he is ranked 2nd with missing 2 games and sitting out a lot of 4th qts.

Last year he was ranked 6th, and we all remember how many injures he had and the time he missed.

the 2 years before he was ranked 3rd ..

And in 2007 he was ranked 4th with Iverson in 3rd place - so he really doesn't have a problem scoring along side another dominate player.

I really thought Mike D'Antoni was a good coach and Melo was the problem. What has happened so far this season is the exact opposite. Melo has gone from being a public enemy for Knick fans to one of the best players of the season. I have no problem with people calling him MVP.

It would be awesome if a Knick won mvp. I'm sure everyone would love to see it. I'm personally not going to get involved in the chants 21 games in but if he is still in contention for MVP in March I will certainly pull for him.

That's interesting you said that about 21 games because you were way more psyched about Lin when he had barely played 10 games. It's up to you. I am not going to tell you what to say but I don't think there is anything wrong with fans wanting Melo in the MVP race. Personally, I don't care about it.

He won't have trouble scoring over 20 but he is not going to average 27+ with Amare

People were screaming MVP for Amare that 1st 3 1/2 months, that chant went away as soon as melo got here...What you think is going to happen when amare get back..He only wins that award if his assist #s go up, and we win the east, cause his scoring his bound to go down.

This is different. I never said Lin was an mvp candidate after 8 games

Melo's numbers don't go down. Amare's stats will stay below his average. He knows Melo is the go to guy (just look back to last year and Melo's 1st year tenure. Stat defers to him.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

True.

I think a fair gauge for this team and any potential awards would be the All Star Break.

Then it's the stretch run and positioning for #1 seed and homecourt, MVP race, etc.

Melo was averaging 20 last year. And finished at 23 once Amare went down and Melo took over games in March/April

Exactly Chuck but if people want to chant mvp after 6-21 games then go ahead be my guest! Nothing wrong with that

Bottom line. If we win the east ... Melo is MVP and Allstar, Tyson is DPOY and allstar, Jr has a good chance to get the sixth man and if Amare comes back and scores around 20 a game, he will be an Allstar.

no caveats... if your as confident as some around here go for it. Jrzy wont respond because he knows its a losing bet. But its fun to call people haters.

I agree 100% that Melo is playing his best ball right of his career. 20 games into the season his scoring has certainly helped the Knicks to the best record in the east. Good enough to finish top 3 in MVP voting? I say no way. He's put up these #s before an never finished close to top 3. History means something.

If you really want $100 maybe getting a job can't hurt?

And he's put up those numbers before to never finish in the top 3 because the teams he was on were not elite.

Take a deep breath, and repeat this over and over till you get it:

To be a candidate, you have to be on a GOOOOOOOD team.

Once Amare returns later this month Melo will still have the occasional breakout game where he scores 40+ because he is a great player. However, his overall average will go down because he will lose 10-15 shots to Amare

melo has said himself that he doesnt wnat to score 40 all the time anymore. This year he has had no choice with amare out but once amare is back we will ahve more balance plus we could rest melo some minutes

It's a great time to be a Knicks fan

Melo- MVP
Woodson- COTY
Grunwald- EOTY
JR- SMOTY
Tyson-DPOY

Out of those 5. I think Woodson and Grunwald are the only 2 that have a legitimate chance

Exactly he is carrying the offensive load like he did last year when Amare went down with the bad back but he knows(he said admitted it before the season started on media day) that in order for the Knicks to win it all he has to do a better job of getting Amare good shots.

Melo is doing a better job moving without the ball this year and he is going to have to do more of it once Amare returns

I agree. I think some are focusing on individual awards and not the biggest prize which is a title. I dont think Melo cares about MVP he wants to win a title.

I don't know. I think Tyson has a good chance as well. He started the year off slow, but starting to look better and better. It was said he had something going on with his body that caused him to feel sluggish.

agree on all this. Didnt have a problem with Net fans chanting the same for Deron when he smoked Knicks when Nets beat us. Its all good. Just dont care for the hater or less of a fan label because I dont share the same opinion, realistic or otherwise
