Ewing was one of the greats of all time. Melo is not in his group and will never be... unless of some miraculos transformation.
Pat was a Warrior, Melo is a cool talented celeb. There was and are a sh..t load of Melo-type guys in NBA. Ewing defined an era in NY bbal.

good point, plus melo comes off as a douchebag..... not a good guy... I think back at the cheap shot on mardy collins, I think about the "ridiculous" comment during lins contract negotiations and the host of other dumb comments he made...

the problem I have with melo are the knicks trying to build around him.. building around low character guys is never a good idea, building around one dimensional scoring SF's is also not a good idea..

I know this may come across as hate to some of you, but this is how I see it.. The knicks have no business trying to build a team around this guy, but this is a problem in the NBA and just not NY, you have a host of max paid guys who probably shouldn't be, and that just straps a team financially.. the knicks have two max players who really are not "max" guys... therefore we just can't add the talent to this team we need.. so yea, when one guy goes down, it is a big thing.. we don't have the depth and can't acquire the proper talent because we are capped out...

Lol what has Melo ever done to you to deserve all this vitriol? Did he spit on your dog or something?

no, he just forced his way here.... honestly, if melo was here as " just one of the guys", I could live with it.. this guy came here and self proclaimed himself the "leader" of this team.. although we had amare here.. I mean really dude? really? he sabotaged dantoni, which in turn was just sabotaging his teamates.. the guy is a child... my dislike isn't without cause... what I want for carmelo to do, is just sit back and STFU... you are not the leader of this team, just be a good indian, like you are on the olympic team.. shut up, take your 15-19 shots per game, try if you can to defend and let the team handle the rest...

Riiiiiiight....come here, at 20 mil per, don't make any promotional appearances, stay the hell out of Madame Tausauds, and let the Fishlips, Tony Douglass's and Landry Fields' of the world be the face of the franchise. Just "merge" into that team. Where the hell was Captain Amare during the last two years in the playoffs? Oh yeah, that's right, he was injured in year 1 and punching inanimate objects in year 2. Leader Stat, really? I like Stat, thought it was a good signing in light of getting pissed on by Lebron. But the "leader" of the team??? Really, really?

And you forgot to tell us about how EvilMelo used Dolan to run Lin out of town too. Forgot that one?

Your dislike is truly amazing towards someone who actually forced his way on to your team at the point in time that he did. Shouldn't you be happy that someone actually wanted to come here, given the history the franchise had just emerged from?

why should I be happy that carmelo wanted to come here? he is doing us no favors? this was more of a revival of his career that was floundering in denver... NY didn't need him...

Face it, New Yorkers are by & large basically frustrated a-holes who never appreciate what they have until it's gone & no amount of circle jerking about the supposed good ole days where we just barely lost to the bulls because C Smith didnt dunk the ball or Starks' 2-18 is going to change our citywide hater attitude.

You can't possibly have any evidence or logic to support that claim.

Absolutely agree- Ewing was treated disgracefully while he was with us, and I remember most of the time he was out there battling for us, fans were tearing into him every step of the way- when he went down in the 1999 playoffs, fans were delighted because they thought we were better off without him.

I laugh when players say Knick fans are the best in the world- I get the passion, but it so easily descends into blind hate and 'what have you done for me lately'- look at Amar'es fall from grace in the eyes of some fans.

Melo hasn't done anything really to warrant great jubilation, but he hasn't done anything to warrant the level of hate he's getting either. I get that some players just rub you up the wrong way and you don't want them on your team (I'd feel the same way if we ended up with Kevin Love)- but at least realise you're not being even remotely fair to that player.

Melo stunk it up last season, but came back with an absolute vengence to get us in the playoffs- that's been airbrushed out of Knick history. People cite what he didn't single handedly beat the Heat in the playoffs so that cancels that out- really?!

People attacked him for not playing defense, he started playing markedly better defense. People attacked him for being over weight, he lost the weight (completely unacknowledged by them). He had a great showing at the olympics (again completely unacknowledged).

I am curious, what does Melo honestly and realistically have to do to earn any kind of positivity from the posters who hate him? That's a genuine question, not a dig.

Melo stunk it up last season, but came back with an absolute vengence to get us in the playoffs Melo quit on his coach, then played hard for a coach who after said "he needs to get into beter shape"- that's been airbrushed out of Knick history. People cite what he didn't single handedly beat the Heat in the playoffs so that cancels that out- really?!

read the posts... go win some playoff games. Its not that hard to figure out man.

Also Melo cost us a future. We gave up picks and good young players, as well as the ability to sign a max FA at the end of the season. We went from one of the youngest teams in the league to the oldest built around a guy who has won nothing and has a following of fans hell bent on selling people his career has been as good as Kobe's or KGs and just hasnt had the supporting cast. Its insulting and old and people get resentful.

Just wait when Shump is an up and coming and we trade him and any of your favorite players on the Knicks for Kevin Love, then give Love a max deal and call him the leader. Then everything you say "this sucks" I will remind you Love is a top 5 player, the best rebounder since Rodman and your just hating. Again, and again and again and again and when you still get tired of the first round exits I will post again and again and again... it gets old.

totally disagree mate. If you read the major media outlets Eli is regarded as the most clutch QB in the NFL right now. Dude went to GB and outplayed Farve and Rogers. He outplayed Brady in two superbowls. He outplayed Romo, Matt Ryan, Brady, Rogers, etc en route to winning two cups.

When Melo gets his clutch baskets in deep playoff runs he will get his due. His best game as a Knick he got outplayed by Paul Pierce in crunchtime. He quit on the team last year and killed Linsanity. He made sure he got payed first and foremost in his route here (while the best player in the NBA took less money to build a winning team). He talks constantly about how great he his and the sacrifices he makes. Its old. Melo is ARod, but without the MVPs and that one great playoff run.

@Actionjackson

Its not the haters vs. Melo. Its people like me who are simply waiting for this guys greatness to show in the win/loss column. There are like 2 or 3 people on this board who cant stand the guy. The rest are simply nauseated by the Melo fans ramming his greatness (or trying to) down our throats until we realize he's as good as Kobe and just hasnt had the same supporting cast.

Melo will get his due when he produces like a franchise player in the playoffs. Its that simple.

very well put..... I keep hearing all of this, he is the best player we had since ewing... heck I do remember we had a guy named sprewell and Houston, who as Knicks have been better than carmelo.. in the end it is about results.. carmelo brings no results, it has been that way his whole career... yet it is always someone else's fault... just tired of hearing that.. plus the guy is a douchebag.. I just can't root for a guy like that bro... just can't..

but Allan and Houston had a better supporting cast with the Knicks so, that is a totally unfair statement to say they did more as Knicks. Also, his story with the Knicks is a work in progress meaning, we don't know how history will view him. They ALSO weren't dealing with constantly changing rosters and, Ewing didn't have to deal with Bi-Polar fans on message boards thinking they know more than the Pro's.

As for the poster who called him a low character person....based on what. The stop snitching video, he didn't even know that the guy filming him was using it for that. I'm in Baltimore and likely know more about what was going on there than most. Or the weed thing.....shyt loads of people smoke, old and young and smoking doesn't make someone a low character.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

There is no Jeter DNA in Melo not a single trace. A-Fraud he is and he may reach an Apex he's rarely or never been before but that's only if someone else has Jeter chromosomes on this team.

Yep Alak Seltzer is on deck when I watch him play and the way he carries himself.

There are other players who deserves criticism including Tyson for his wishy-washy leadership and Amar'e for his lack of defensive desire and anemic rebounding.

Although I do find it interesting it's okay to talk down about Amar'e on this board, who has accomplished more than Melo in his NBA career. Last time I checked Amar'e wears a Knicks uniform. The difference is a large contingency of Knick fans hide under the cloak of Amar'e being expendable in a timely manner. It's their Ace in The Hole....card will be pulled when it SUITS

All I know even at this late stage in the game if Melo through his name into the Presidential Candidacy he'd win by a landslide. His Campaign Team is on some of the most Potent Powerful Lob City ISH I've ever seen.

I think Amare definitely returns to all-star form. As long as he has no major injuries, i think he settles into a 20/8 type season and maintains similar numbers for the remainder of his contract. I think he still has 3-4 good all-star seasons left.

Melo's fans are upset that people are recognizing his offseason effort to get in great shape. Tells you most of what you need to know.

apparently not. Not only did he get in shape BUT... he's going to do whatever the team needs. Im suprised with this level of leadership we need a coach at all. Just let Herb run the thing and use the money the Knicks could have saved on Woody's contract for more Melo booblehead doll nights at the Garden.

So you're criticising him for being in great shape and saying the right things now? See, I'm genuinely not a Melo fan (more of a Amar'e fan), I'm neutral on the man, but the over the top hate for him makes these boards a chore to read sometimes. I get that you hate him, and I'm sure you have great reasons, but why not save the criticism for when he actually does something wrong?

Melo could win 10 rings and people will find something....not just thus board

totally disagree mate.

@Actionjackson

Although I do find it interesting it's okay to talk down about Amar'e on this board, who has accomplished more in his career than Melo in his NBA career. Last time I checked Amar'e wears a Knicks uniform. The difference is a large contingency of Knick fans who hide under the cloak of Amar'e being expendable in a timely manner.

All I know even at this late stage in the game if Melo through his name into the Presidential Candidacy he'd win by a landslide. His Campaign Team is on some of the most Potent Powerful Lob City I've ever seen.

lol... AS I SAID, it is funny how amare has become expendable around here... and I keep hearing that melo needs a supporting cast.. how about amare?

he and his no defense no rebounding seemed to do pretty well in the playoffs. Of course those Suns teams were just gimmick

BETTER YET, it was all steve nash, had nothing to do with dantoni and amare.. although nash was a GREAT, GREAT player, amare had nothing to do with their success.... go figure..

that was sarcasm. What makes the board hard to read are 15 page threads of Melo fans demanding recognition that Melo is top player, as good as Kobe, etc etc

Im a big Amare fan also, and Ive been outspoken about why, shortcomings included.

The sarcasm was a jab at the Melo jock riders who are excited that the franchise player we gutted our young team for is a) showing up in shape and b) willing to do what it takes to win

I dont hate Melo either. He's my ARod. Overpaid and underwhelming, but he's on my team and I have only once rooted for a player on ANY team I follow to fail (Marbs+Isiah).

Honestly I was thrilled to see an MDA offense featuring Melo/Amare. Melo is probably the only player who didnt greatly statistically improve under MDA but thats gone and done.

I fully expect the Knicks to win a lot of games this year. I also expect Amare to be the best player on the team. I also expect Felton/Amare to be very sharp out of the gate. I lastly expect Melo to take a slightly lesser role, become more one of the guys and that will be great.

Of course we will have to listen to and pay homage for the great sacrifices Melo is taking to win these games and make teammates better but at least there will be winning basketball so who cares.

Ha, I always seem to miss the 15 page threads declaring Melo a god, and always seem to get the impression that Most people are neutral or anti Melo on these boards. I agree with most of what you said, but I think I'm not as bothered about what we traded away as I used to be. Mainly that's due to getting Shump, Tyson and Felton, so I feel we've restocked a fair bit, and my favourite player in that deal, Wilson Chandler, looks like he's greatly injury prone (he's currently injured again!). I do think the 2014/15 pick is going to bite us in the a** though.

Hopefully this will be a great season for us, and TKF will become Melo's greatest fan

When will Melo ever get a break
