melo isn't a leader so how could he possibly be captain save in name only?

it's ideal when your most expensive player is also a leader.

it's a problem when he isn't.

it's also a problem when lesser players who have little to do with winning and losing have to keep the locker room on an even keel.

this team is a troubling mix.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

The new coach doesn't rely on players to keep his lockerroom on an even keel. Also, I think the Knicks have a lot of high character guys and veteran leadership. Ew was never just the cap. He was a tri-captain. I wouldn't worry too much about who the captain is. There are some guys on this team that know how to win and play team ball.

gunsnewing - you are paying attention. At least The Answer Man did not cheapen Steve Novak's contribution by labeling him the white guy.

Klay's Dad would light it up during pickup games at the U of M on Saturday mornings. Our brief run against them was not pretty.

I don’t think that’s necessarily true, considering that most of the players the Knicks got this past summer are old enough to be assistant coaches in the league, I bet they will have a lot of influence in the locker room, otherwise why go extremely old?

Mike Woodson is the captain of this team. Nobody else has earned that title as of yet.

I think the Kidd played a role as captain in Dallas.

Maybe I wasn't clear. The previous coach relied on his players to police themselves. The players have talked alot about Woodson holding them accountable. I don't think there is any doubt who is in charge.

Melo says that he is the leader of the team. It would be silly not to name him a captain when he's told us repeatedly that he is the leader/captain of the team.

We all know how the real leader is though.

How can a team have a captain that is such a horrible example on the defensive end? If leadership does not start with defense then I don't know what a captain is.

Chandler should be the captain but since he can't score a lick outside of dunks, I don't see it happening. He should certainly be a defensive captain but I don't think it works that way.
