Bynum isn't exactly nothing. He's the best center in the league not named Howard. Breakdown...

Lakers: This deal is overrated in that Dwight isn't a huge upgrade from Bynum so it doesn't change the Lakers chances of winning it all next year (still puts them about even with the Thunder and not as good as Miami). It's great for them because they can build around Dwight after Kobe retires, assuming Dwight extends and is healthy.

76ers: This team made out like bandits. You get the second best center in the league and Richardson for Iggy? Can I nominate their GM for executive of the year now please?

Denver: Iggy is better than Al Harrington, so it's a win. Iggy isn't the superstar this team needs, but it's still pretty good for them.

Orlando got fleeced but they were in a no-win situation anyway.

Papabear Says

It's a matter of respect. Thats why they get this deal done and the Knicks can't even sign Martin. Poor management on Orlando's part. They didn't want Gasol? What now they get a bunch of late 1st round picks and lottary protected with all of the team? They waited for this? The Magic are crazy if they let this go through.

No, Orlando didn't want a 32 year old PF with a max contract. Their GM knows they're going in the toilet so he dumped salary and picked up three first round picks. Building in the NBA means you go up or you go way down. Value-wise Orlando got robbed, but got what the GM wanted.

The Lakers found a way to give Orlando what they wanted: draft picks, cap relief and no drama. That's why the Lakers got the deal done.

But Orlando didn't get any cap relief. The contracts for Harrington and Afflalo are longer and worth more money than Jason Richardson's.

Magic really got hosed in this deal. The offer the Nets reportedly had on the the table was much better for Orlando. At least Lopes would have provided them with a good, potentially very good big man. But to have Aaron Afflalo as the main piece you receive back in a trade for your franchise player?

The Lakers aren't afraid of the tax. Because they're a winning team.

Good thing the Knicks went "all in" to "win now" while the Lakers built an actual super team to beat the Heat.

And did someone just say Dwight wasnt an upgrade over Bynum? on this team, he will be - he's not needed to score with Kobe, Pau and Nash. He just needs to defend and rebound. But because of Nash he will get a ton of easy baskets.

Lost on everything is the fact Bynum and Dwight have stated they will go free agent. Quite possible Lakes view Bynum as a risk to leave as well and the upside potential of Dwight who has a place in Calif and stars in his eyes would want to re-up in LA.

The miss timing of it all really is unfortunate for Brooklyn as they were seen as the favorite destination for Dwight. Pretty evident Orlando wanted Dwight out of the east.

Its really possible that Dwight plays this out this year and goes free agent which can include a sign and trade so LA could get something in return. Most likely he extends with Lakes unless his back is a problem.

Lakers still aren't getting past the Thunder. Howard for Bynum pretty much a wash in that offense.

Orlando in lottery and salary dump heaven. Denver marginally better with Iguodala.

The unanimouse winner is the Sixers. They just need a 3 pt specialist and they're set. Big big upgrade with Bynum and Hawes backing him up.

If Dwight is healthy, LA will be amazing. Lebron and Wade should be worried but they're probably partying on the beach. I don't think any player in league history has been more fortunate in their supporting cast than Kobe.

Why does everyone keep talking about a "salary dump"? Jason Richardson has 3 years and $18M left on his deal while Al Harrington has 3 years $21M left and Afflalo has 4 years $30M left. Minus Dwight Howard, Orlando is actually adding salary in this trade.

This ain't it --------> go that way, take the steps down to the correct forum.

J-Rich is going to Philly not Orlando. So actually it is full on tank mode for Orlando. Only big contract they have is Hedo Turkoglu.

I know, Orlando is trading JRich and getting back the larger contracts of Harrington and Afflalo. And they still have Glen Davis and Hedo. This trade makes no sense for Orlando, none.

Richardson is going to Philly. The Magic are getting back Harrington, Afflalo, Vucevic and Moe Harkless. However, you're right....I don't see a salary dump. Howard was due a around $19.5 this year. The 4 players the Magic are getting back total a little over $17 million this year. The Magic save around $2.5 for this year.

not sure why it's so annoying, and yes the NBA Forum and OT Forum are not used as much as perhaps they could.

But it's the offseason, and our main forum gets most of the traffic right now. We are trying to shape it but it does take time.

Literally speaking there is not much Knicks to talk about these days.

Let me ask you: when you see the OT in the thread title and if you would prefer to not read that type of thread, why not just skip?

my guess is that the full details of all players involved have not come to light.

Duhon or Q or someone will pop up.

Like I said the only big contract they have is Hedo. Davis makes $6 mill/yr and Harrington about $7 mill/yr. Afflalo is also manageable at $7.5 mill/yr. They get Vucevic and Moe Harkless both tiny rookie contracts. It's pretty clear which direction Orlando is heading...to the cellar for a full blown rebuild.

haha - I just can't bother with the argument if the moderator of the site is ok with it.
Anyway, I like the Knicks as much as anyone else here, but all the talk is pretty boring. Bring on the season.

Magic got crushed. The Nets deal was better than this. I wonder if Stern had a talk with them and promised if they would set up LAkers/Heat Lebron/Kobe that they would be rewarded in the future. It will be interesting how the ping pong balls fall.

Not 100% sold on the Nets deal being better. The Magic would have received Lopez, Brooks and 3 picks. That's a little over $14 million between the two. The Nets are going to be good moving forward so it's not like they were getting lottery picks in return. They would also keep Howard in the East.

With the trade they made, they get 4 players in return for $3 million more in salary and still get 3 draft picks. The picks are protected but none of those teams are headed to the lottery anyway and Howard is out West.

On the plus side, thank f*** this is over! It's been a year of constant rumours and lying. Also I'm pleased Rockets Gm Morey has failed once again to trade for a big time player- I can't stand him and I'm glad he's getting exposed as someone who can only trade for picks and draft mediocre players who he then fails to convert into anything.

I wouldn't say any team is an outright winner- not sure if Dwight fully recovers from his back surgery and shattered psyche, he hasn't even been cleared to practice yet and will probably perform poorly this season. I ont see Sixers as big winners either- Bynums attitude is going down the toilet and he is injury prone too. It'll be interesting to see if he can step up and be the man.

Not sure what Denver are doing, but it could work.

Magic are big losers- 3 mediocre picks and they still have to keep Turkoglu? Players they got are okay but nothing special. Don't know why they didn't deal with the rockets or why they left it so long, til after teams had spent their cap space- it really reduced the amount of bad contracts they could have offloaded.

That was unbelievable--unbelievable that they did not take that Net trade under almost ANY scenario. Whether they wanted Brook Lopez or not with the max contract---they simply couldve traded him and got back the SAME package they did for Howard?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Sixers have no PF.. I like the Holiday Turner T Young Bynum core. Thats 4 guys under 25 with good size and skills. I wonder if they put T Young at PF and move a shooter into the line up? That would give Bynum the whole post.
RIP Crushalot😞
