I would't be suprised if Melo might jump ship and play with a team like LeBron, Kobe. They called LeBron a chocker now a winner

tfk... what are you going to do? Root against the Knicks? Root for Knicks to win but Melo to fail? Just check out all together? What if the Knicks have a great run this year? Can you get behind Melo?

Haha at least TKF doesn't hedge his bets, fishmike, like some posters in case Melo does well.

whats the bet to hedge?

I love the Knicks. I dont and wont follow ANY other basketball team.

I DESPERATLY WANT to love Melo, hell even like Melo. Who wants to dislike their franchise player? Who wants to tune into the team they love and watch players they dont believe in?

Simple fact is if I let myself really dislike and hate Melo Im done with the Knicks until he's off the team. What fun is that? I went through that with Marbury. Probably part of the reason I have a softspot for MDA and Walsh. Those guys came in and took one look at that clowning malcontent and said go away, we are better without you.

Melo isnt Marbury. Not even close. I dont think Melo has a good team game and hasnt done anything in his career to elevate his teammates. Thats a LOT different from trashing your mates as Marbury did. I dont think Melo is as bad as tfk describes. The problem is he's not half as good as YOU describe. Not a franchise player and NOT a playoff winner. People love to call him clutch but the dude is a terrible playoff performer, plain and simple. He's like Jamal Crawford with his .419 shooting %. You get a monster game followed by a garbage one. Problem is you *might* win his monster game but your always losing his garbage games, so there you have it and the reason he's got the worst playoff winning % of any NBA veteran.

If we win with big with Melo great. If its more of the same it really sucks because stupid Knicks will be doing everything to build around a player who doesnt have the game worth building around. Time will tell. As of now he's overpaid and overhyped. Everything possible is lined up for him and the Knicks to have a great year. Lets see them go execute.

I root for Melo to succeed because he's a Knick. If the dude tanks and we dump him fine. He's done nothing here so I have nothing to care about (yet).

you folks seems to have a hard time digesting these points.

It's okay, fishmike. Hating and frontrunning, pragmatic anti-homerism seem to go altogether as linked birth defects. Rather be riding a Knick jock than getting chafed to death riding the fence staring at other jocks. You get less splinters in your balls that way. But maybe you like that.

Just to be perfectly honest.

Hope to see all you non-douche-what-have-you-done-for-me-these-past-ten-seconders getting behind all of us riding Melo if things work out this season.

Youtube Melo. Go back and take a look. It might do you some good.

This is why I really didn't want to lose MDA. I felt that this team actually had a chance to have a balanced offensive attack with MDA here and Lin. Eventually they would get STAT going again and everyone else would also stay involved. Now i'm not sure what Woody is going to be able to get out of the rest of the team. I'm positive that Melo will do well, but like Fishmike just pointed out, what do we do if Melo isn't on?

Right now we have 2 clear offensive options 1. Melo 2. STAT. After those 2 you drop down to Felton, Tyson, JR and Novak. That's not a very strong offensive attack. It's why i've been saying this team is going to be more of a grind it out team. The Knicks don't have a very potent offensive attack. This team MUST defend on a high level and MUST play ball control, low TO BB. As i've said they're going straight for the Detroit Pistons style of BB. Only problem is we don't have a Rasheed Wallace who we know for sure can post up regularly. We can only hope that STAT and Tyson can be effective in the post.

IMO this offense will be easier to defend than what we could've had. I like Felton, but i'm not 100% confident that he'll be a consistent offensive threat. I can only hope that Felton can get his offensive game back enough to help breakdown the defense and create openings for the rest of the team. The only thing I feel good about is the teams D.

JRod, you sound like a guy who follows a band and when they become popular the "real fans" get bitter.

I kind of get where fishmike is coming from as he seems to be ok with Melo but when its shoved down our throats with coatings of homerism its kind of too much.

We all get it, the teams were decimated by injuries from lack of depth, in part caused by the big trade and Melo could not carry the load by himself. I'd say maybe only Lebron can do such a thing.

We all get it, MDA had to go. Star player bought in by ignorant owner.

We all get it, Atkinson is not important so good riddance!

We all get it, Lin was not that good!

We all get it, Melo is in shape, Amare will be perfect again working with Hakeem!

We all get it, We gonna win 55 games this year!

We all get it, Media has us 5th seed! Haters!

WE all get it, until the games are played.

Rinse, wash repeat.

Its the same every year. Homer hype vs. Hating realism.

One day the cycle will end and you think you can kick fans off the bandwagon? Some how your like a "real fan"? MOre than Bonn? Fish? and others?

Good post Nalod. I think the point is that there does not always need to be a fall guy or a scapegoat. Very often, people as implement this as a coping tactic so that they can better deal with the current situation.

The franchise has been quite abysmal throughout the years, mostly out of desperation with the need to win now attitude in NY as well as Dolan's Asperger syndrome.

I still think that much of this hate/dispute still has MDA written all over it. There were/are staunch sympathizers as well as staunch disdain for MDA and who people like and who they hate still very much falls in line with who was pro MDA and who was anti MDA. Very few Pro MDAers are pro Melo and very few anti MDAers are anti Melo.

MDA supporters believe that Melo derailed his coaching stint in NY therefore hate him for it and Anti MDAers could care less if he did or didn't since they were happy to see him go.

Its all about alliances and allegiances.

You pretty much nailed the pulse of this board. I would add Gallo aswell (As he represents the home grown youth that we shipped out for Melo) Some supporters of Gallo are not very fond of Melo either and they seem to blame him for the trade as if he was the owner or GM. But everything else is on point. Fans have a need to blame someone for our failures and for some odd reason we love to pit player vs. player.

Spree vs Houston
Chandler vs Gallo
Melo vs Lin
etc...........It would be much more enjoyable if we could pit the Knicks as a whole vs other teams in the league. But, since we've been so bad over the years, I guess the next best thing is turn our players on each other.

Dude look at the teams he had in Denver at tell me what year that team should have gone to the finals. Yeah, one playoff win with the Knicks in 2 seasons but why? I know it's his shooting percentage.

For a guy who is not a franchise player the Nuggets were sure pulling hard for the guy to sign that contract extension. The Denver Nuggers were a freaking joke before he got there. He came into the league and 19 and has been to the playoffs every single year.

He will have a big year this year.

Nalod,

Followed UB40 all my life, since 1981. Never got bitter. Check.

I kind of don't understand how you kind of get fishmike when he says that Melo hate's a figment of all us stupid homer douches.

I'm not hyping the team. I have no illusions of grandeur or thinking we're sweeping our way to a chip because we've now signed some AARP folks who are a step above the senior citizens/bench tripe we had last year.

Lin was good. I see you like speaking for "We", but I've never said Lin wasn't that good. For the 150th time, I bought the damn knee brace and band aids, for the love of God! It sucks he's in Houston and our owner remains a true douche's douchebag.

I get it, there's no such thing as Homer Realism. Only Hate is Real. Homerism is always hype. Check.

I'm not kicking anyone anywhere. Simply disagreeing, probably way to strongly for the effete posting tastes of a few around here, with the almost deranged hate against a star player who's on our team and hasn't managed to produce a chip in the first 1 and half seasons here. Blind pragmatics over team loyalty has always managed to irritate my liver. My bad, I guess.

I get it, Trade hangover. MDA hangover. Lin hangover. Now we have Atkinson hangover. Check. When do these end for the "We", by the way? Will a chip really be the only antidote? Or does Melo have to create a 5 year dynasty? Just asking.

I get it, Melo's nothing but a loser who's never gotten any further than the WCF. Check.

Go back to your lives, people, nothing to see here.

I think we all lump posts into two camps with little room for a "Centrest" view.

If we win a chip Im sure there will be plenty of arguements about whose to blame for the success.

I was off the board for about 12 days in July traveling and kind of swore off the board for a while but here I am again the last week or so and can't help myself as I need to whine and argue with someone.

If Melo doesn't help NY win a championship in the next 3 years; then yes, he will join cp3 - his bff wherever he goes.
