Does the truth matter by Melo? I am smelling a double standard - smells bad

Yeah Melo smells pretty bad - rotten fish comes to mind

NY Post article.

Right. That's generally how it's done, except this subject wasn't discussed much there. (Not that there's much to discuss regarding this topic...) But in general, if you see a true duplicate, post a link like you did and point out that "this subject is already being discussed in this other thread". That's more pro-active than just complaining about duplicate threads. Incidentally, I agree that there are generally too many Lin threads, but there's not a whole lot else to talk about (except how evil Melo is) so why not? It stimulates discussion, gets people coming back and looking at those ads, putting money in Martn & Andrews pockets...

I hear you, wasn't discussed verbatim, but the exact quote was in the other thread yesterday: "I didn't go back to them and ask for more money," Lin told the paper. "It wasn't like they gave me the choice to sign one of the two and I chose the one that would hurt the Knicks. I had one contract offer. That was it."

So actually the link and thread from yesterday I gave does address today's issue. It's not a new revelation, just that people want to talk about it a day later for whatever reason. I usually like to read the story or article beginning to end when people post newspaper or website links, so it's not like I'm complaining for no reason. The story is a day late, guys want to talk about yesterday's news today, I guess I should expect people to do that in this forum. My bad.

The 4 year 28m offer - 5m, 5m, 9m, 9m with the 4th year as a team option was reported on 7/4. Did that offer not exist?

If you read between the lines and what he is saying is that he wanted the 4th year guaranteed, or 28m guaranteed. It is obvious, atleast to me, that houston didn't want to guarantee the 4th year so they gave him another offer, a second offer with more money in the 3rd year. What lin is saying is technically correct, but it is crafted word play.....but it is also bs because he rejected 19m guaranteed and got a second offer for 25m guarantedd even if technically he asked for the 4th year guaranteed, which technicalli is asking for more money. Make sense? He even refers to two offers in his quite, you just have to filter out the lawyer bull****

Not on paper. It was a verbal agreement between the Rockets and Lin but what the Knicks were expecting to receive. The Rockets broke an unwritten rule by changing the offer but they did what they felt they had to do to get Lin. Had the actual offer been the verbal offer I think the Knicks would have matched.

It probably didn't exist. When the rumors for that offer were going around, it was before the free agency period and Houston couldn't have written an offer sheet.

i remember it differently. Didn't Fields get his offer sheet and sign it before the Lin sheet was reported?

That doesn't mean there were actually two offer sheets in existence. Lin might be doing some spinning but I doubt he's flat out lying.

ok wait, just looked it up...it was during the moratorium. Much as I hate to post a berman artice..the dates and everything are here http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/knicks/sources_knicks_will_match_jeremy_UiWmQy0rzKmQCNrv94gn5J?utm_medium=rss&utm_content=Knicks

"Rockets general manager Daryl Morey presented Lin an offer sheet late on July 4 — calling for $5 million in the first year, $5.2 million in the second year, then backloading the deal with $9.3 million in the third year and $9.3 million in the fourth, according to a source. Yesterday, Lin’s agents tried to negotiate a guaranteed fourth year."

Read this post...again it's berman so i can neither confirm nor deny

since no contract/offer could be signed (or official) until after 7/11/2012 12:00am, whatever may have been leaked out could have changed or may not have existed in the way folks think. note that houston did the same thing with asiks deal as well (15mill 3rd year).

More people should look to their reasonable judgment about this matter. Lin is a straight arrow guy, who enjoyed the success and tried to not let too much of Linsanity to get to his head. When he says that it affected him some, we accept that as truth (and even take it to mean more than it means, I mean he's only human, who wouldn't be affected at least some by that?). Now when he says that he wanted to stay with the Knicks, but that he had a offer from Houston that he thought the Knicks would match, for some reason we don't believe that and we think he's lying and being a conniving manipulator -- you must not know many people who actually try to be honest -- some info will be negative ("I let Linsanity get to my head some"), and some will be positive ("I wanted to stay a Knick"). Don't be such a damn hater.

Lin said that he wouldn't have signed the Houston offer if it wasn't something that he was excited about. However, he still preferred to be a Knick (if the Knicks would have matched). He loved the Knick fans and that will be something special and he will go to his grave saying that -- that type of statement wouldn't be said because it does not help him in Houston, but why did he say it?? He said it because it is true. Is that so difficult to accept?

Didn't want to sound like I was attacking you in particular, because I value your opinions and your humorous "sarcasm without smileys". Just a general rant.

When I go to my favorite knicks forum to see the same redundant posts, views, and opinions hammered home repeatedly it strikes a nerve. Anyways, I'll be more diplomatic in the future, post links, and like you mentioned, stimulate discussion leading to much needed revenue for the great job Martin and Andrew do for this site.

Hahaha - I am cordial at times, no?

I love the debating - never take this stuff too seriously. If sports can make you so upset and so mad then there are many other deep rooted issues that need to be dealt with.

Some people actually take all this stuff seriously - I find that very amusing and enjoy stirring it up.

You right man. If everyone had the same opinion, it'd be a boring ass site, and a boring ass world in general.

Thank God there's 2 sides to every coin, or I'd probably jump off the Queensboro bridge already.

In the end, we're all fans one way or another. Some more "fanatic" than others.
