This goes back to the Knicks never offering anything. The Knicks never gave Lin a chance to walk away from the Rockets offer because they never put a standing offer out. From Lins perspective if he walks away from houstons 2nd offer nothing is there to fall back on. How does he know the Knicks give him a max offer they could give. In reality the Knicks max offer wasnt much less then the Rockets first proposed deal. Maybe if Lin wanted to stay he tells the Rockets U know what thanks but my hearts in NY and takes the Max Knicks deal. I know thats extremly doubtful but the Knicks didnt even give him that option. I dont get why the Knicks couldnt of put that offer on the table for him. At least if they offer that the Knicks could have proof they tried and wanted to keep him. All U have now is talk

I'll just occasionally read these types of threads and laugh, while wondering why folks still can't just write it off and move on.

Lin is gone, we have Kidd and Felton now. It's about wanting to see the KNICKS TEAM win. That's what I'll be looking forward to.

+1 Its like being with a new girlfriend but keep talking about the previous one with everybody and even calling her at night and when she answers you hang up. Its funny but I understand because most fans were so wowed by Lin's amazing story and put so much hope on it, they can't really move on.

The Parrot Chronicles

crzymdups - I've checked and have not found any that have praised Dolan's handling of it.

A. Think for yourself.

Nobody won.

Time to make the donuts with Raymond Felton, Jason Kidd and Pablo Prigioni.

But is that all Lin, Inc. could do, was sign offer sheets and then renegotiate them? He didn't sign the first one that Houston offered for four years, did he?

A restricted free agent is subject to his current team's Right of First Refusal, meaning that the player can be signed to an offer sheet by another team, but his current club reserves the right to match the offer and keep the player. An offer sheet is a contract offer of at least two years made by another team to a restricted free agent.[9] The player's current club has three days to match the offer or loses the player to the new team; the CBA prior to 2011 allowed seven days.[16]

What if he doesn't sign the offer sheet but negotiates with his team? If that's not an option, okay, but if it was, then it wasn't entirely out of the Knicks hands. If effect, they were forcing him to sign an offer sheet before they would do anything. If that's the only way things work, fine; I have no point.

Which happens often.

Knicks could only offer him 4 X $5M per the Gilbert Arenas rule (the $5M would have some nominal 10% or so increases over the 4 years). If he wanted more than that, he would have to sign it with another team.

Morey being praised for the way he handled the Lin contract situation. I've checked and have not found any that have praised Dolan's handling of it.

In some quarters, Morey has been criticized (anonymously) for violating an unwritten code by changing the terms of Lin’s deal. It was a legal maneuver, however, because no contract had been signed. Two rival executives contacted Wednesday said Morey was well within bounds, technically and ethically. In fact, they praised Morey for the bold maneuver.

It ain't that deep - Knicks made a massive mistake. Actually several different mistakes.

i bet both of those rival executive were rivals of NY, and from Houston.

or possibly Khaaaaaannnnnn

Good analogy.

That's what it is when one is stuck in a mental rut.

The delusions have become so bad that some are actually saying that Lin, barely a rooie, who only had less than 35 career starts, is the "best" player on the team with perennial all-stars who have performed at a high level for YEARS.

Don't waste time arguing with those people, bruh. Pity them. It's a waste of time engaging in circular arguemtns. Let them spin, cry, and whine themselves to sleep.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

So the kid who sleeps on his friends couch, then goes home to stay with his mommy is the mature team leader that the knicks need....seriously people get a grip. It was fun while it lasted, but it is clear that management wanted a mature leader for the next 3 years. If it was Lin he would still be here

I'm ready to move on. But the Rockets won. And the Knicks lost. That much is inarguable.

The Rockets got the player they wanted. They're thrilled. They won. How can you argue that?

The Knicks lost a player they ostensibly wanted (hence Woodson "he is absolutely my starter") due to a revised offer sheet. They alienated a fair portion of the fan base and lost a few fans in an off-season where the Nets are opening their doors in the second most highly populated borough in NYC. There have been multiple articles in the national media slamming both Dolan and the organization not only for the decision to cut ties with Lin, but the way in which they did it.

Their former beat writer Howard Beck, by all accounts one of the best beat writers in the league, is lobbing bombs from Brooklyn:

@HowardBeckNYT: Always amazing to see how much more candid people are after they leave the stifling environment of MSG.

The Sage - Jeremy Lin/ Williams & Connally running back to Morey and the Rockets (to up their offer) after the Knicks informed they would match the original offer was not cool.

In the eyes of The Dolan Family, they got too greedy and showed a sign of disrespect.

There is no Linsanity in Houston.

It wasn't a question of Lin's greed. He wanted the extra money-we all do. It wasn't a question of not wanting Lin's talent. There was a question of money and the luxury tax but i believe that they did have a question of the affect on the team chemistry. While no one on the team said anything about Lin's talents or character it is not unreasonable to believe there would be some resentment affecting team chemistry ie. why not me. Cannot fault Lin-this may be his one shot at the big payday (including his current endorsement deals)-he never has to work after the next three years ( I think he will be smart with the money).
