He should keep his mouth shut because he isnt very media savy. he should tak to Eli and Jeter about how to say nothing when speaking to the media

I agree. It also was a shot at the rockets and morey. Hahn clarified melo's statements during today's game. Melo was asked about the offer everyone else is talking about. He probably shouldn't have commented but in context he said nothing wrong.

That's how I interpreted Melo's statements as well.

Context is everything. Still, Melo should know better. He's been here long enough.

Ehh didn't read into it as a negative for Lin, but rather a shot to poison pill contracts and this new CBA in general. Let's be honest here, Lin making $5mill next season after only a 25 game sample, and JR Smith accepting less to stay in NY for $2.8mill is a travesty in itself for a proven SG vet that's been in the league 6 years already. That's not even counting the 3rd year $15mill that pretty much puts him in elite Point Guard territory without making a single all star game or playing a single playoff game. Same WTF category as Landry Fields and Omer Asik. Why did Lin have to reneg on the more than fair 4 yr contract and phuck the Knicks in the ass? Alas, Lin's no dummy and taking advantage of his 15 minutes of fame, but let's crucify Melo for stating the obvious that everyone's thinking.

Melo earned his max contract, Lin really hasn't earned his new contract yet. Melo still said he would like Lin to return.
The two statements are not mutually exclusive.

After that Melo said that Lin should do what's best for him and his family, and he's right. The first part was a shot at the owners who overspent after bitching about how they weren't getting any money before the new CBA.

If he were to say no comment there would be 100 threads talking about how Melo doesn't want Lin back. Oh wait a minute......

True. The media took that comment and ran with it. That headline spread just as fast as the one about Kid's DWI arrest.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

I'm pretty sure in the NBA it's considered really really bad form to comment on another FA's contract. I can't even remember a player calling another players contract ridiculous in recent memory.

Hopefully he just meant ridiculous as in the way it played out. I mean can you imagine being offered a raise at your company and having your coworker say aw man that dude don't deserve that raise in a public forum?

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

Athletes get interviewed all the time on issues regarding their team. It's not like he stated the exact terms of the contract to the public. I don't recall him throwing numbers around, and he did say he wasn't the GM. It's not like Tyson Chandler said no comment. Melo was basically stating the obvious, that he wanted Lin back, but it's up to the team to match.

Only in NY is this blown out of proportion. I honestly don't see anything wrong with what he said. Especially if you read the full excerpt or see the full video interview.

Yes but this is NY. He needs to be more careful about how his quotes can be misconstrued.

C'mon - how about when he said that he is playing harder for Woody? He might have just meant that Woody rides them alot harder since he is a defensive iron fisted coach but how was that taken? As soon as he opened his mouth I knew that he would regret that forever with the blood suckers in waiting.

Dont people here comment on players contracts, weight, dating habits & in general their worth as human beings every goddamn day??? Sheesh you people are the biggest hypocrites on the face of the earth!!! I wish just one of you could step to one player & say 1/3 of the crap that is said here without your anonymous cyber protection (or the safety of the distance provided by 132 rows of seats when you scream out "Hey Melo....yooooou suck!!!" like a big man from row ZZZ).

Exactly. It's the off season and free agency right now, what else is there to talk about? Not sure why the focus is on Melo rather than JR's comments which probably echo what most Knicks teammates are feeling:

Asked if Lin's contract could cause a challenging dynamic with his teammates, Smith agreed.

"Without a doubt," he said. "I think some guys take it personal, because they've been doing it longer and haven't received any reward for it yet. I think it's a tough subject to touch on for a lot of guys."

It might be even better that the Knicks don't match Houston, as Lin's albatross contract might cause a Lin-bury effect in the Knicks lockerroom.
