The whole thing was to pair LeBron with a superstar. He overpaid to do it but so be it. If he had gotten LeBron with another great player nobody would've cared. Enough of this crap.

Praising Glen for getting lucky with Novak and Lin but trashing Donnie for actually making the Knicks respectable. Laughable. Let's all go back to Isiah management. Maybe you prefer that.

There's a certain segment of people who can't recognize a good thing even if it comes a slaps them in the face. And most are not smart enough to account for the dynamics of timing and opportunity when passing snap judgment. But don't worry GKF, Donnie's legacy won't be tarnished by the trolls.

Donnie served the Knicks well as Grunwald is doing now. It's not an either/or kind of thing. They're both good general managers.

this... Walsh did what Isiah and Layden couldnt, he stuck to a plan. He cleared the roster and allowed us to court FAs and thats what shaped this team. Not some random trade be it for McGrady or anyone else. Grunwald has been more lucky than good, but thats just fine with me.

As good a GM Donnie is with free agency, managing the cap, and making trades he definitely should leave the NBA Draft to someone else. He sucks balls in that department, and it's not even a debate. Jordan Hill and Toney Douglas....

Not to defend Isiah but he was not ordered to rebuild the team he was trying to get them relevant while being in salary cap hell and he just made a bad situation worse because he inherited a bad team with bad contracts from Layden. As far as Grunwald being lucky part of being a good GM is being able to get talent from the scrap heap like San Antonio is able to do so I don't consider him lucky.

But he didn't get LeBron..he put all his eggs in basket and he FAILED...and once he FAILED, he panicked and gave A.Stoudamire 100 Million. Great job.

You know what's amazing to me that no one ever mentions...He never bothered to fill the one position that MDA needed to run his magical offense. You would think that bringing in a capable PG would have been his primary focus.

Whats laughable is the product that he put on the floor. How were the Knicks respectable? Who respected the Knicks? Give me a break...

You know who made the Knicks respectable? Woodson made the Knicks respectable. Melo made the Knicks respectable. I know you all dont want to hear/read that, but it wasn't until they went on that 18-6 run that other organizations started taking the Knicks serious. Thats when they earning their respect back..not when we were going 29-53 and having J.Crawford run the point. clown

Agreed and people think Linsanity saved the season, he did help, But it was Melo who carried the Knicks into the first round while Amare and Lin were both out and he had to play power forward and average 30 points a game! Woodson did a great job and if not for injuries I felt they could have given the Heat a series.

He gave Amare a deal before he even approached Lebron. Yes he gave him too much money but please stop with this revisionist history crap. WTF are you smoking? If Donnie didn't clear cap space how exactly were we going to get Melo? Fans like you are all the encouragement Dolan needs.

Were you in a coma when the Knicks were successful with POINT GUARD Felton and Stoudemire as a tandem? Not even sure what you're even getting at. Woodson made the Knicks respectable? Melo made the Knicks respectable? Really? Melo? Tell me Melo's record since he's been on the Knicks and explain to me how that is so respectable. 18-6 is the smallest sample size of all-time. Stop saying 18-6 every damn time. That's all I hear. 18-6 happened but it doesn't mean much at all. Call me when the Knicks put up that type of record over an entire season and actually win more than one game in the playoffs.

Walsh's product was laughable? Your post is an insult to my intelligence. 0% chance you'd make this post in December 2010. But here you are less than 2 years later writing this garbage. Revisionist history at its finest.

Donnie Walsh drafted TD, Gallo, and whoever, with the thought that Lebron would come to NY.

Lebron did mislead us, using the media, going to the Yankee's games, and constantly wearing the NY Yankees hat, saying he loves NY, etc..
So we did get played my Lebron and I am not sure how much we can actually fault DW for going all in to doing what is needed to sign 2 FA's of that caliber.

Even, without Lebron, DW was able to build a team that fit his coach's philosophy, with cap room, draft picks, and assets to continue to build on with it.
Even comparing Joe Johnson's trade with The Nets, they gave up junk, not even Marshan Brooks, and 1 1st round pick.

TD
Gallo
Wilson Chandler
Lebron
Amare

AR
Curry*expring*
JJ
Shawne WIlliams
Bill Walker
Turiaf

Lebron would have been playing point forward, sometimes even PG, with Shawne in as PF.

With Curry's expiring *to sign another FA*
future picks
Golden State's 2nd round picks
AR could have netted us a pick at the time

Who know's what was DW's next plan, but he was not done even after that.
Too bad we would have never know and he was unable to execute, as Lebron had made up his mind prior to the meeting already.
