The team doctor for the Orlando Magic said he believes Dwight Howard will recover fully after undergoing back surgery on Friday, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Dr. Craig Mintzer told the newspaper that Howard is doing well after the surgery and should recover in about four months without complications.

"He shouldn't have restrictions whatsoever. He should come back fully. There shouldn't be an issue there. Really, it's just a matter of time," Mintzer told the Sentinel.

"Fully recover" is a little vague I guess and isn't the same as saying Dwight will play at the same level as before. I think it's a risk the Nets have to take though. He has only one year left on his contract anyway.

Is that the same Orlando team doctor who failed to spot the herniated disc and broken back fragments? I still can't believe that the Magic's medical staff missed it, and it was only when he went to LA for a second opinion that it got diagnosed.

Yeah man, Grant Hill was suppose to do big things with Tmac in his prime at Orlando.
But their medical staff is just like ours, things didn't start getting good till he joined The Suns.
Grant Hill is an amazing player that came back and fought hard for the love of the game and $ that he got for free.
It is time for him to chase his ring, so Lakers, Heat, OKC, Bulls, and of course we will get interest even if there is 0, just saying...

The difference though is that we locked up Amare in a five year and the Magic locked up Grant Hill in a seven year max contract, whereas the Nets are talking about just picking up the final season of Dwight's contract. Obviously we'd have to take into account how many assets the Nets give up to get Dwight too but I think there's less risk involved in the Dwight situation.

If the Magic don't want to deal with the Nets, they can let the Nets dangle a little while. Sooner or later, Brook Lopez and Kris Humpries might get antsy at being RFA with no offers coming in...

Alan Hahn ‏@alanhahn

RT @MagicInsider: #orlandmagic don't expect a deal involving Dwight Howard today. No hurry whatsoever.

So i just finish watching the Nets vs Magic summer league game where M Brooks (there suppose young trade chip) go 0-10 from the field, made some bone headed plays, and looked like a straight D-leaguer..

Then I took the liberty to look at his season stats, 41% fg%..32% from DT..

Even if the NETS some how land Howard, they would have the arguably the worse supporting cast in the history of the NBA..

Looks like the deal is almost done and we will have no shot of getting 2 the conference finals. The nets will receive Dwight Howard, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark.

Maybe for year 1 but after that they will be stacked. They will get 1 of the top MLE and LLE players. Plus the best vet min players. Bench will be weak in year 1 but after that they will have a Top 3 Roster top 2 Bottom easy in the NBA.

A healthy Dwight in Brooklyn and D Rose returning to full health in Chicago would be great for the NBA. The east would be stacked. No more calling us the Leastern Conference. And two major cities would have contenders.

So the Nets go

Williams
Johnson
Illakan Karaman
Wallace
Dwight

Clark
Richardson
Evans
vet minimium

That's a lot better than what the Knicks are trotting out there.

What I dont get is why the Magic are letting the Nets school them like this. The Nets dont have the Cap room to sign Dwight. So the Magic can say F U and keep him and he wont get to Brooklyn ever. Why they are letting Billy King dictate the shots is ridiclous. I dont get why a rental team doesnt go for it. Dwight wont be able to sign with the Nets as a FA so he can stomp his feat all he wants. If he wants a Max deal he will have to either sign with another team or let the Bird Rights team trade him to the Nets and u put the screws to them

Howard is better than Chandler/Amare combined, Deron most would take over Melo and Joe Johnson getting feeds off of screens from DWill and kickouts from Howard will be unstoppable. Throw in the kid from Europe and I think the Heat should be very worried.

Melo better lose 15 more pounds and Amare better drop all the weight he added, because we are going to need Camby, Courtney Lee and whoever else to compete with these guys.

yea.. and Tracy McGrady and Grant Hill are the next Michael and Scotty. How was Dwight in the playoffs last year? Looked great huh?

Maybe we should wait and see if the guy with the broken back can play before we hand them titles? I hope they do get Dwight...

Usually it does not work out well for teams that say "FU" to their superstars when they want to be traded.

I don't wish bad on anybody, but come on, every Gm in the League HATES New York Knicks, and screws us all the time.
While the league is forming an alliance with a dream team with our BKLYN NETS.
Stern should Cp3 this trade and fire all of Magic's personal.

What was this CBA about again? Not giving horrible contracts, and not allowing SUPER TEAMS being formed?
Fail, Fail, Fail...

See Toronto and Vince Carter- at least we offered them an okayish trade package. Raptors refused to trade him to us out of spite ( he wanted to play for us), and so sent him to the Nets for absolute garbage- they even had to buy out alonzo mourning (one of the main parts of the package) because he didn't want to play for them. This deal then double backfired because the Nets became an elite team with Vince and he spent many happy and successful years there. Possibly the worst disgruntled star player trade of all time.

I actually don't fault a lot of these guys.

The Cavs had six years to put together a team to keep Lebron. If you're a billionaire like Dan Gilbert, why aren't you overpaying the best front office executives in the league. If you give your prime to an organization and the best they give you is Mo Williams, Jamison, Larry Hughes and make horrific signings why wouldn't you leave.

Same goes for the Magic. Gilbert Arenas, Rashard Lewis, Jason Richardson. They gave away one of the best big men (Gortat)in the entire league for virtual garbage couldn't bring in a difference maker. Look at the team dwight was on if you exchange amare or chandler that's a lottery squad and one of the worst teams in the NBA.

The Knicks are an embarrasment. After trading Ewing we have made some of the worst moves in the history of this league, fired good people, allowed a classless scumbag general manager to alienate fans, sexual harrass employees and create a culture of garbage. I must say it's amusing and fitting that the Nets are about to complete this deal and hand the Knicks their ass. We finally established a plan, brought in a great GM in Walsh and then the owner usurped power, forced a trade, gave up power to a diva superstar and again pushed for big names without a blueprint. It's not fun watching a game dominate the ball. Watching guys like Lin, Fields, Novak, Chandler and Jefferies play smart basketball was the best part of last season. They better pry that Melo understands he can be a top 5 player by getting everyone in the flow of the game and picking his spots. If not New York belongs Brooklyn.

I disagree.

Lin
JR/Shump
Melo
STAT
Tyson

Kidd
Shump/JR
Novak
Camby?
JJ?
Free Agent SG
Vet Min

If Woody can get the most out of STAT and Lin is the real deal we have the deeper team for sure. Nets starting 5 is rediculous with Dwight, but they're not as deep. Dwight has proven he's had a difficult time scoring against legit Centers like Chandler and Bynum.

Everyone is down on the Knicks because of the soap opera atmosphere and the fact they got beat in 5 by the heat. I think 18-6 was no fluke and even that was when Lin and Stat were both hurt. If healthy I'd take the Knicks roster I listed above rather then Nets with Dwight.

Teams don't screw us, we screw ourselves. We could have been in this sweepstakes but instead decided to blow every asset on Melo. Now we have to hope he develops into a true leader. Not sure he can

Everyone's out to get us. ESPN, the team owners, the commissioner. I guess it's easier to blame everyone else.

Dwight wants to be the MAN.

Dwight is clearly better than Williams, Johnson, and Wallace.
