he'd be a great pick up, but i doubt he clears waivers.

a team with cap room can bid $1M on him and if no one else puts in a bid, he's gone. the Clips got Billups for $2M last year.

Someone will pay Brand $2M at least. No way he clears.

Kings, Rockets, Suns, Blazers, Pacers, Charlotte Bobcats, among others.

they don't have to have $18M in cap room, they just need to be under the cap period.

Has nothing to do with records, just cap space to accommodate the bid.

i mean andrew just posted the rules....

it has everything to do with records....the only thing is if someone wants to crack the bank higher than the veterans minimum then they would get Brand....I can't see anyone with a better record than the knicks offering more than the vets minimum. I mean 3 million should be the limit...but we've seen guys get 7 mill a year and totally don't deserve it....ahhhh the nba rules suck

Record only comes into play if multiple teams bid the same amount. The most important factor is cap space because that will determine how much a team can bid.

I understand the rules people....

I'm just saying why would the Kings pick him up? Why would the suns take him? The Blazers? Pacers? Bobcats?

All those teams are losign teams....Elton Brand doesn't make them better. Thats why I'm only looking at playoff teams....not many playoff teams can offer more than the veterans minimum. If that is the case, then the knicks have a great shot.

Actually, the Pacers were the 3rd seed in the East last season and they have to decide to match a max contract for Roy Hibbert so it could make good sense for them. The Spurs and Mavs also have cap space and could use him.

Pacers are going to try to get Kaman to replace Hibbert.

Spurs and Dallas make sense because they both have money to spend....outside of them I can't see anyone else spending more than the minimum. 2-3 million probably would work...anything more and that is too much

I stiil think a Stat for Iguadala trade makes sense for both teams, and now they have cap room to absorb some of Stats salary. He could also play some at the 3 moving Carmelo over to the 4. Yes, we would be smaller but we would have better balance and flexibility as well as being a better defensive team....and i think we would be under the lux line and get our full MLE to sign another player by moving some of Stats sarary

Well, it only takes one team to bid and he's gone. And we've got three playoffs teams in Pacers, Spurs and Mavs who could use a vet. Even if Pacers get Kaman, you'd think they'd want Brand, too. Kaman alone isn't gonna make up for Hibbert leaving.

And if Brand clears waivers, you'd have to think Miami would give him a call. And any other playoffs team needing a big man. Chicago if they lose Asik to Houston.

Brand will have LOTS of interest. of course the Knicks should be one of the teams interested in him, but i'm saying find me a team that's not interested in brand for $2M.

Rumor is Iggy may be on the move to Toronto for Jose and Demar but isn't Young and Demar nearly the same?

You guys want Brand but I am more interested in Williams.

It's just interesing....makes me angry a littel too because this league just locked out its players so they can further screw themselves wasting money.

I mean I bet a team like the Pistons will probably bid on Brand for no reason just to get him. They won't make the playoffs but will spend the money just because.

Brand is still a very good post player who plays D. His only issue is rebounding. He grabs what? 6 a game?

Based on how the Knicks are constructed today, who's the most valuable backup big?

Camby - long shot blocker, big man defensive presence; injury prone as ever
KMart - lots of knee surgeries, bring thug-like toughness
Shawne Williams - still has untapped upside at 26, coming off a bad season; just 2 seasons removed from a breakthrough year with the Knicks
Brand - will always be an undersized big; age and injuries have sapped him of his freakish athleticism for someone with his wide build; the best of the group in his prime.

If Kidd becomes a sign and trade, Brand or Camby at the MLE would be great. NY is probably the front-runner for Camby so that's probably what we're looking at, but it's still pretty damn good. Brand is better but he's a long shot.

If you're talking vet minimum Martin is the best option. I've read that Camby won't take it, so I'm taking a rumor at face value there.

I won't even consider Extra E. The Knicks can just keep Novak and he can play the stretch forward role at the 3/4.

Either way, the Knicks will also pick up Jeffries at the minimum.

STAT
Chandler
Camby/Brand
Jeffries

is a nice big man rotation to roll with. Three guys who rebound and defend.
