Bare minimum:
48 wins
4th or 5th seed
Second round playoff appearance, one win

For season to be a success:
50 wins
3rd seed
Take Miami or Chicago to a 7th game in second round

Overachievement:
54 wins
2nd seed or 3rd seed
Slip past Miami or Chicago in second round and have a birth in the eastern conference finals, taking that series to at least 6 games.

If they do any worse than the bare minimum, the team should be disbanded and we should start over. Yes, I doubt this would happen, but it's the right move. We should be able to get 4-5 first round picks by trading Tyson, Carmelo and Amar'e for shorter filler contracts. Keep all the young guys and restart the 2013-2014 season with around a lot of youth and a core of Lin and Shumpert. Not the worst thing in the world.

If we somehow hit the overachievement... well, I'll believe it when I see it. Do or die this year.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

The fact that you guys feel there is hope of getting past the first round just proves my point that you believe in woodson, melo, amare, lin, chandler & shumpert so I rest my case for the rest of this offseason

These guys will have less trade value then. You don't wait for failure and then trade the players. You trade the ones that are over-valued in order to get good value and prevent failure. Right now, Melo is coming off a very good stretch and is likely at the highest it will ever be.

So we are acknowledging that melo is a good player and has value around the league? You sure wouldnt think that visiting this forum!

I'm always fighting this Melo fight for some reason, but it's clear he has value, and lots of it, as a component. He has to add dimensions to his game to consistently WIN, not just consistently prove he can score the basketball. And not just win in the regular season, but in the playoffs.
He is a rung below the guys who WIN, Lebron, Rose, Durant, Bryant, Pierce, Duncan, Garnett, Nowitski, Wade, Westbrook (after last night, even though they didn't win).
Value = Yes, lots
Ability to be a Finals MVP, or even an ECF MVP = Unknown but doubted by many

Only time will tell.

Good news is some of the teams better then them have issues. Boston may be broken up,Bulls wont have Rose, and the Howard may be traded. If the Knicks had Iman Shumpert and were able to add a mid level player to the current roster the ECF could of been a slightly plausible goal. Without Shumpert the Knicks have zero perimeter defenders and the loss of Smith gives them no scoring as well. Lin takes the whole mid level Jr leaves leaving the Knicks with 1 guard thats worth a damn on the roster and no assets to acquire 1. Knicks will be about the same because the rest of the ECF getting worse and at best they win 1 series.
