I kind of like the way Stern shot back.

I think Rome got his answer but he wanted the cheap thrill and he got it.

Rome kind of never let up on it. I thought Stern was being a dick when he called SAS "important"! ANd I loved it!

SAS is a clown of sorts too.

This is the media and they have no respect (not saying this about SAS). Rome went too far on a question that was done many times before and Stearn has answered it many times. Rome wanted more and Stern is no fool.

Wow, our interpretations could be more opposed. I think Rome got what he wanted and Stern looked like a fool by stooping down to or even near Rome's level.

To me it was obvious Rome meant to ask the question to clear the air even though the answer was obvious. No problem there, it was up to the commissioner to say no and then talk a little maybe about the measures the league takes to make sure there is no funny business with every years lottery. The problem was that Stern was probably already bothered by comments he had been hearing around him about the whole thing being a sham. I dont think that he felt guilty, but he definitely became overly defensive about it and was uncharacteristically rattled by the question. Anyone else catch that while listening to that whole exchange?

I actually like Rome,it's Sterns demeanor thats annoying. always acts as if someone has the nerve to challenge him, all through the lockout, even with the arbtration hering...he be littles ppl when they try and challenge him.. It's like I'm the commissioner of the NBA Why are you challenging me..He smiles, smirks gives vague answers then throw cheap shots. "Do you still beat your wife" Really sten..Do you still jack off to madona videos..

This interview was from 94. If someone is an @sshole on his program does an interview he did 18 years ago make it ok? Stern was way out of line here. Not sure how anyone can see it differently.

That becomes more hilarious each time you watch it! 5 minute segment! I bet I do, Chris!

I think you all make valid points.
At first, I thought Stern was being unprofessional, but after listening it a 2nd time, I noticed Jim actually initiated it.
Rome starts off throwing low blows at Stern with OKC/Seattle already and Stern tried to ignore it but Jim Rome kept going on on and on...
He pushed Sterns buttons and got what he wanted.
He started it off with the low blows, cheap shots, sarcasm, and wanted a rise out of Stern.

Stern is wrong to mention such a thing about "beating the wife"
2 wrong doesn't make a right but who hasn't lost their cool before?
That is exactly what happened,

I am glad Jim Everett made him went off on him.
People like Jim Rome make a living out of belittling people, it just isn't right.
He gave him fair warnings and Jim Rome didn't stop, there is no class in what Jim Rome is doing?
I don't understand what the whole Jim/Chris was all about, but he had it coming to him.
This probably ended with a lawsuit if Jim Rome got hurt, its funny how the law protects douchebags like that.

In the end, I conclude Stern and Rome are both douchebags.
Stern doesn't like to be challenged and he has the mentality that he owns the world.
It's funny how $ and power can bring out the worse of people.

+1

If Stern feels that way, then why go on the show? I think Stern came off as unprepared. He seemed to have no idea that such a question might be coming.

Rome asked a ridiculous question and got an appropriate answer. Then Rome starting pouting. I don't see why Stern should have to put up with that **** regardless of whether or not he's the comissioner. The friggin NBA Finals are on and he's asking loaded conspiracy questions. Also, I always change the channel when Rome is on so I agree with Stern on Rome's career

But by merely going on the show, you're endorsing the interviewer. At any given moment there are several thousand people who would be happy to interview Stern. By going on the show, Stern is saying "you (Rome) are the one who's most worthy of my time." Stern's actions and comments about Rome are incoherent.

good point. I personally would have no desire to appear on Rome Is Burning

one dik-head vs an even bigger dik-head. I absolutely loath Davis Stern

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

I watched, The Announcement, last night. Stern was amazing in how he handled that situation and how respectful and kind he was toward Magic. Its a shame he has looked like such an @ss with the labor situation, JVG fine, this interview with Rome etc. Its probably time for him to move on.
