Be impartial.
I can't believe I'm reading that anyone thinks Melo is better.
I'm looking at this as purely a basketball enthusiast, NOT a Knicks fan.
Carmelo Anthony
Dwyane Wade
They are equal

If it's based on right now, then tell us something concrete about what Melo does better than Wade right now.

MELO is better in....

watching the playoffs rather than competing in 2 straight final appearances...

Its not even debatable

Shaq, Lebron & Bosh. Other than that Wade is better at leading the league in scoring in his prime on a LOTTERY team

Stop this nonsense. You make it sound like Melo had no teammates and still made the playoffs. He had a pretty good supporting cast. As for Wade, the Heat had a few years of lottery, but the year before LeBron + Bosh, the Heat won 47 games. They also did pretty well when he teamed with Odom.

There are not many guys in the history of the NBA to bring a team to the playoffs without a damn good supporting cast, and as much as I hope for nothing but the top of the rock for Melo and the Knicks, Melo was not, and is not, one of them.

Dominique Wilkins was a maestro of a mediocre team year after year, same with Clyde Drexler, Allen Iverson, Lebron did it in Cleveland. But those occurrences are rare and don't breed championships.

Don't hate on Wade because he's been surrounded by talented guys and succeeded. Look at all the teams stacked with stars over the years who didn't produce a damn thing, the Knicks included.

If you watch basketball, and you've seen Wade's body of work, and you still talk **** about him being lucky, then you should stop watching the NBA, probably basketball altogether.

That's wrong. The Portland teams that went to the finals had all stars like Terry Porter, Buck Williams, and Kevin Duckworth. Cliff Robinson was also on those teams. You had guys who were first team defense on that squad. Nothing "mediocre" about them.

A man who knows his ball.
Not Drexler's first 6 or 7 years. 1st 2 years, he had none of them, next one, only Porter, next 3 or 4, add Duckworth, but neither Williams nor Robinson were on those teams. Later on they were but not then, and those early Drexler teams were perennial playoff teams. Drexler changed that organization from year one.

My bad JohnStarksFan, thought you were referring to his entire stay in Portland. Drexler also had Kiki Vandeweghe who was putting up great numbers but not as good a squad overall that made the finals. Too bad we got him after he got hurt, but Kiki put together a few good games now and then.

Melo will never be in Wade's ballpark. NEVER. You can't quantify things like effort, will power, determination and guts. And Wades conditioning is 100 times better than Melo's. Till such time I see Melo showing those things on top of otherworldly skills this question is a no-brainier.

Having said that, I hope to god OKC butchers the Heat.

Will power? Please only thing Wade willed is Shaquille and Lebron because he couldn't do it as focal point of the team.

Dude, even Jordan needed his components to win. I thought it was clear this is a team sport? You're dropping Wade into a giant shadow undeservedly. Why would he want to be a martyr? The organization picked him, kept him, built around him. Why doesn't he deserve credit for that? He still put up major numbers in those "shadows." You're just riding that Knicks bus until the wheels fall off. You'd be singing a different tune if he was in orange and blue, all of you haters would. Shaq and Lebron changed their positions, and are poised to be top 10 players of ALL TIME. Just because Wade doesn't measure up but was in the situation to play with them, and played well his entire career to this date [including playing in the finals this year], he gets **** on.

Unreal Expectations

Yes. Not to mention, Wade was the BEST player on the Heat team that won the title in '06, not Shaq.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Yes but he would not been anywhere close to winning it if the heat had say Big Z. Also the Heat had other great pieces on that team

What does that have to do with anything? If he had Big Z... Did Jordan win without Pippen? Did Kobe win without Shaq or Gasol? Name me an NBA championship team that didn't have a good supporting cast with either a star #2, #3, etc... or an incredible bench. Often, they have both. That's what it takes to win a title, in addition to one of the top players in the league. I think you're edging into strawman argument terrority at this point. Saying Wade won a title because Shaq was still very good and they had a good supporting case PROVES the point we're talking about. Very few players win a title and Wade was the best player on that team. Period.

You're question makes no sense since Jordan was never as good as Melo.

The question posted was who would I take between Melo and Wade and I answered THAT. What i didn't answer is whether Wade would have won a title without Shaq. Please don't confuse the issues and make irrelevant assumptions.

Put Melo in with a semi broken down Shaq and he would throw a sissy fit about not getting the ball and sulk his way out the first round. Wade isn't Lebron or Shaq, Melo could have been Lebron or Shaq. Wade MADE the most of his opportunities and talent. Melo was and continues to be a loser who has learned how to point fingers at everyone but himself.

I would take a bagned up broken down Wade over a sulking Melo. At least I'll get effort and leadership from Wade and I'll get nothing but scowls from Melo.

Exactly. Wade is 30 and I do expect that his play will deteriorate and possibly faster than Melo's. But I'd take a banged-up, slower version of Wade over Melo anyway.

Your sign is backwards friend, the soon we ALL come to terms with that, Melo and the Knicks brass included, the sooner this club has of being something special. And the sooner Melo inches closer to Wade's stratosphere.

I expect that Wade would be a different player if James was not on the team and the Miami offense went through him.

Anthony's big issue with MDA was not being the guy our offense went through. His numbers (and perhaps more disgracefully, his effort) changed when MDA quit, Woodson kissed his feet, and Lin got hurt.

Any of you think that Anthony is going to be the dominant player on our Olympics squad? He is not a complete player, and probably never will be. He is also not the leader that Wade has been as a player, and will not be a leader on the Olympics team.

Wade puts a lot of energy and effort into his game, and he has always been injury prone because of this. Seems clear that he has peaked as a player, but he came to the table with many more positives and things he can do on the court than Anthony, and unlike Anthony, he has willingly given up, or chosen to share the spotlight with another superstar, something Anthony would probably not want to do.

You want a guy to take the final shot- maybe you take Anthony over Wade. You want a guy who is a complete player and a winner- you take Wade.

Melo lead team USA to a Gold Medal = Fact

Wade is a SG who can't shoot = Fact

I'm being impartial. Starting a team today I take Melo over Wade.

What does Melo do better than Wade....Let's start with the fact that Melo is a SF and Wade is a SG. Melo has taken and hit more 3 pointers and has a higher 3 point percentage than Wade in their careers.

Who gives a pig's *** about the olympics for this discussion?

And his shooting isn't an issue when his FG% for his career is 48%.
Melo can shoot, he's got a 43% career fg%.

Numbers tell the truth, shooting or no shooting. Any coach would sacrifice shooting for that kind of efficiency.
