![]() Woodson is the right guy for the job. He took over a team that was 18-24 and went 18-6! The only team with a better record than the Knicks over that stretch was the Spurs. Yeah we got killed against the Heat but we were going to get killed regardless of who was on the sidelines.
Phil Jackson? Please, he was never coming here so why bother interviewing him? Phil had 2 oppotunities to come on board and burned us both times. Jerry Sloan? I'm sure that after 20+ years in Utah he would be a great fit for the insanity that is New York. SVG? LOL A coach than gets the most out of his players? Check After all the losing years and the more than dissapointing start to this season I'm all for a little stability with this team. We have the coach, we have our building blocks, now we add our role players. Woody gets the Knicks at 50+ wins next season! Blue & Orange 4 Life!

Yeah we got killed against the Heat but we were going to get killed regardless of who was on the sidelines. Cash - on Sunday, The Answer Man had the honor of meeting Mike Woodson at a reception in Atlanta. We share a mutual friend and the coach greeted The Answer Man with a warm smile and introduced his wife. It was a class move. Even though The Answer Man likes hot butter on his breakfast toast, this is mentioned not as a brag or boast, but to consider something other than third hand reports on a person. Even though The Answer Man is internationally known, regionally respected and locally accepted - Mike Woodson had no reason to extend his hand. The coach was gracious and had a warm smile for a stranger. He lit up when I thanked him for a strong finish to a crazy season. He realized The Answer Man also had his back, not as a friend of a friend, but as a lifelong Knicks fan. We chatted briefly and then he was on to the next conversation. The cool part was sharing a moment when Woodson was not surrounded by reporters in pursuit of an angle, but a relaxed moment as he was surrounded by people wishing him well. He and his wife were welcomed by old and new friends. You can tell a lot about a man by his handshake. He impressed me as a man who was comfortable with himself. Yes, it is a good move to sign him up. once a knick always a knick

No offense but him shaking your hand at a gathering is not a good enough reason to support his hiring as head coach. Even Ray Charles knows that the body of work contributed by Mike Woodson cannot be distilled into a handshake. That is apparent. I put more stock in how he handled a difficult transition. It is much more important to evaluate Mike Woodson for how he managed minutes, multiple injuries, the post-honeymoon letdown, the media, the D'Antoni fans who could never let go, the super egos, the vacancy at point guard, the sudden responsibility and the Miami Heat. All things considered, his 18-6 won-loss record was a minor miracle. The handshake was a pleasant confirmation that Mike Woodson is cool up close. You cannot say that about everyone. once a knick always a knick

JamesKPolk wrote:This team has 3 years to win a championship as currently constructed. Grunwald: This team is under construction and a work in progress. The roster will change. That is inevitable. Three years is arbitrary and insignificant. Bring on Summer League. JamesKPolk wrote:There is no long-term future with this team. Phil Jackson is the right coach for this team. Jerry Sloan is also the right coach for this team. James Dolan doesn't want any of them because he doesn't anyone to challenge him and his ****ty media policy. The only people who care about the media policy are the media. The job pays well and is the best pedestal for any NBA coach. If Phil Jackson was the right coach for the Knicks his limo would be at 2 Penn Plaza. Jerry Sloan battled with his star guard. They could not work it out and are both no longer in Utah. You think the NY media would have a field day with the ego arm-wrestling between Sloan and the two mega stars? JamesKPolk wrote:Woodson being an Isiah ally doesn't hurt either but isn't the main selling point. The main selling point is Woodson being a yes man. If Woodson had finished with a .500 record in the regular season and snuck into the playoffs as the 8th seed only to be swept (with injuries) he still would have been re-signed. Hyman Roth: Any person who works for a corporate entity is a yes man. That is the business Woodson chose when he signed up. He didn't ask who gave the order to have D'Antoni wacked. He took the job because it is BUSINESS. JamesKPolk wrote:I hope I am alive to see his reign of terror end so we can finally form of real culture of winning in New York. JKPolk - You would be wiser to concern yourself with the things you can control. The Dolan's are not selling this treasured franchise anytime soon. Then again, you can always root for Brooklyn. once a knick always a knick

Why should I trust his basketball opinion? Why should I trust a mediocre GM who has an obvious friendship with the current head coach? GKF, the one part you are going to have to acknowledge after stating that the Knicks may only have a 3-year window and your obvious want for Phil Jackson is that IF you bring on a coach like Phil you may have to re-tool the roster over the first 2 years to bring in the players that fit his system, and that kind of negatives the 3 or 4 year window part. Woody represents continuity as a coach and continuity for the organization in the larger picture. Heck, I wanted the Knicks to reach out too, but there are certainly other things to consider. And generally speaking, who would play the high post position within the Triangle? I guess Amare could, but that's not really his game, so that would be .... what? Right, the Knicks would need to ship him out. Official sponsor of the PURE KNICKS LOVE Program

![]() I'm ok with Woody for continuity's sake. Sick of re-tooling and rebuilding and trades and new coaches just to be disappointed. Let's go with the core we have, add a few minor pieces here and there, and let Grunny and Woody do their jobs with a full off season and training camp.

That is a really good point. Nobody is saying Woody is the all-time greatest coach ever, but he seems to have navigated the situation well between getting good things out of the players (during the regular season anyway) and dealing well with upper management. With Woody we don't have to retool the roster to fit his philosophy as he's shown he can do good things with the team we have. https://
