I miss the chemistry, TEAM play, an identity, and effort that the pre melo team had.
Sure, we did need to add some talent to that roster, if we could have landed TC, Lin, and Novak, somehow, I would say screw Melo.
I don't think we would have been high on the waiver wire because we would have most likely had a better record than what we had.
Those players, probably aside from Curry and AR, all wanted to stay in New York.
I don't think Wilson Chandler would have went to China and Felton would have been out of shape, if they were part of the Knicks roster.

Melo puts up great numbers, he loves the spot light, loves the attention, but he isn't a player that makes his team better and doesn't play the "right" way.
It's not about the numbers Melo puts up vs Gallo or/and Wilson Chandler, its the chemistry, team effort, team play, STAT being the alpha dog *very much wiling to move the ball*, and many things numbers/stats mislead us.
He is a volume shooter/scorer and isn't in the same category as Lebron, Durant, or even Rudy Gay...
Right now, our players don't mesh well together, while our (pre melo) players had something going, complimented each other and they were all on the same page.

As for Tyson Chandler, I think we still could have signed him, we might have loss out on Wilson Chandler, unable to match an offer in the process though, unless he plays for the qualifying offer...
As for Gallo, we didn't have to extend him right away, I don't think he would mind, if it meant we could have added talent to our roster.
There was so many options and flexibility that Walsh had in mind but never was able to execute at the final stage.

We would have to get some salary relief trades though...

ship out AR for a 2nd round pick
ship out Turiaf, the same way we did though,
trade Walker for salary relief
maybe even trade TD *with decent value from last years performance*
maybe trade Fields or Wilson Chandler *both with good value, getting us cap relief and a 1st rounder*
keeping out 1st rounders and possibly adding even more picks to it as well....

amare stoudemire - $18.2 million
landry -- 790k
toney D -- $1.1 mil

former knicks:
felton -- $7.5 million *if he was the same defender/player he was in our 1st half, he would have good trade value, and his defense would compliment Iman/Gallo/WillChandler/TysonC
gallo -- $4.19 million
mozgov -- $2.56 million *absolute steal, very solid player*

that total is $34 million.

tyson chandler's salary this year was $13 million. he would have fit.

IN a perfect world, of what ifs...

Felton *sorry to say, he would probably been gone with all the PGs in this coming summer, especially if we were able to land Lin*
Iman
Gallo
Amare
Tyson Chandler

Lin
Fields
Wilson Chandler/Novak
JJ/Wilson Chandler *we miss this stretch 4, with great rebounding, defense, and shot blocking ability*
MosGoV

Jorts
TD
Jerome Jordan

this is quite a DEEP team, while we still have assets, 1st rounders, and flexibility in the near future to acquire another "good player or star"
We would have been top 4 in the league, in terms of depth...
With the way we played, it would have been fun to watch, and players would actually want to come to play for us, because it was a very team orientated style.
As great as a job Grunweld has done and with the luck of the amnesty/waivers, we had a nice core of young players...
But this is in the past, lets see what Grunweld can do to acquire, or/and keep what we have, and build a team with chemistry/identity.

I choose the 2008-09 Knicks. I liked that group. Duhon, Crawford, Q-Rich, Randolph, and Lee with Nate, Chandler, Gallo off the bench. Lots of underdeveloped talent, depth, and draft picks there.

In retrospect it is probably the best choice.
