Update on Iman Shumpert: MRI revealed a torn ACL and lateral meniscus tear. He will undergo surgery in New York and is out 6-8 months.

Shumpert's game is built around his quickness. Hopefully he makes a full recovery but we cant count on him next season.

Man this just ruined my day. Feel bad for him. Way it happened though seems like it was bound to happen thru muscle fatigue.

Everything that could go wromg went wrong. We lose our best perimeter defender, our best overall defender has the flu and who knows how long that will last, melo had a bad game, and the refs were....awful

ACL is more devastating to a defensive player like Iman than a scorer...more lateral quickness required. This is a major blow to our perimeter and possibly to his career. I hope he gets a solid rehab and can figure out how to adapt. We really need this kid. Terrible luck for him. Not even a contact injury.

F*** you, basketball gods! Why do you hate us so?

Poor shump, what did he do to deserve this? Remember his first game of the season, we thought he had torn his acl, and were so relieved when it was just a sprain? Then on the first game of the playoffs he actually tears it (and meniscus too)- its just cruel.

I have faith in him to return and perform at a high level again. His work ethic is off the charts.

yea, one thing shump has going is youth...hopefully he recovers fully. He really has a bright future ahead of him in this league... this really sucks...

Plus he's shown he's a quick healer (remember how quickly he returned from the knee sprain), but you're right, it absolutely sucks.

Here's a link to some more info on ACL tears, posted on another board:

That is my fear. Shump had TOP lateral movement. Luckily he is built well, has fast hands and length. He is very young so in time he probably surpasses the defense we saw this year, but it might be without the lateral quickness. We'll see, I got a feeling he is a tough dude and quick healer.

What a dark Knicks weekend. Tyson was dizzy on the court? That's just as bad as playing Rose. To think I was actually thinking pretty optimistically before yesterday afternoon.

ACL tear sucks but it seems (in recent history at least) that players invariably return to where they previously were within about a year.
