We may have to put up Melo just to be able to trade Amare. Between the two I would rather keep him. Amare is possibly the worst defender of any NBA starter. We need team players yes but we need team Players who can play.
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Saw this on realgm:

--I looked at all of Jeremy Lin's units from this season that have played at least 5 minutes together. With Amar'e at the 4, the Knicks are scoring 96.06 points per 100 possessions. With a 3-point shooter (such as Steve Novak) at the 4, the Knicks are scoring 129.72 points per 100 possessions.
--Since the beginning of Linsanity, the Knicks are 8-0 when Amar'e plays less than 30 minutes (including the 4 games he missed) and 2-6 when he plays more than 30 minutes.
--The Knicks are 14.43 points per 100 possessions worse with Amar'e on the court this year. Which, by the way, is second worst in the NBA among players with at least 1000 minutes

Amar'e is not going anywhere. The trade game is a nice diversion but it is grounded in fantasy.

Amar'e is not perfect. All players have flaws.

The head coach controls minutes. It is his job to make it work.

No regrets there. If we didn't make that move, everyone would say we are struggling because we would have a major hole at center. Centers are extremely hard to come by, and i see no other way in the near or distant future we would have had another shot at a center of Chandler's quality. That was the right move.

As to the recent new thread that Amare is not going anywhere . . . you gave good reasons and in my head I know it's correct.

But as hard as it may be to believe, there are teams that make dumb moves like we've made sometimes. Really this is true.

On the internet, there are tons of questionable products (like some claiming to enlarge certain organs) because people really buy the stuff. I can't deny your sound logic, but you can't deny the reality that there are people who will still make dumb moves. Also, don't ever believe for a second that the Knicks will not make more dumb moves (hope not, but it will happen again at some point). So there are people who will say (regarding the product above) -- how come it will enlarge certain parts and not my hand, there will be many that say, "Man oh man, I'm gonna order that stuff -- bet that's why I haven't been getting as much as JR Smith"
