Our fourth quarter defense has been pretty strong this year. When the game is on the line for the first time in years we can throw a defensive line-up on the floor and actually shut peopel down

The only question is will the 4th quarter shutdown defense continue when Amare, melo are on the floor. And will it be shump or smith on the floor with them

Good point. D'Antoni will have some tough decisions to make down the stretch of games. I think Melo will be out there(if he adjusts to the system) but I have a feeling Stoudemire may lose 4th quarter minutes to Jeffries from time to time. IF Shump improves his shot I see him stealing some 4thies from Landry as well. It will be interesting. With the talent we have now defense may determine key minutes.

I know its a small sample but the D reverted back to its old ways Amare's first game back vs Toronto until shump and chandler shut them down late in the 4th. I'm hoping and praying that it works out and those guys won't drastically hurt them defensively. You might be right they may be kept off the floor u in the 4th some games unless it is the last offensive posession to win the game

If they can keep this up (from last 5-6 games) then yes, they can get stops.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Despite the loss on Friday to the New Orleans Hornets, it’s been a good two weeks for the New York Knicks who have won seven of eight overall. And while Jeremy Lin has been the toast of New York City, he isn’t the only reason for the Knicks recent success.

Over their last eight games, the Knicks rank second in the NBA in defensive efficiency, allowing just 93.7 points per 100 possessions. Prior to that, they ranked 11th in that same category.

More proof that over the last 8 games more than Lin starting has changed. Is it Woodson getting his views in???? I think so, because we've had the defensive until to play this style since decemeber.

I honestly think the main reason for the defensive improvement has been Amar'e and Melo not on the floor together, which means more minutes for Jared Jeffries, one of our three best defenders with Shump and Tyson.

I think a lot of it is JJ playing more minutes while Amare, Melo didn't play as much. Could also be a team thing.

I agree. although melo is a better defender tha amare. I like amare but he doesn't push himself on defense

When the lineup is Lin, Shumpert, Fields, Jeffries, Chandler, we are outstanding on defense.

I'm guessing that the recent surge in the rankings on defense is due in part to Lin supercharging the offense. One feeds off of the other.
