role playing perimeter players on championship teams are either lockdown defenders and/or reliable three-point shooting threats. Fields is neither, which is why he is a bench player in this league.

how the hell do we replace Smith next year? smh

This is sorta my point. A typical Fields game stat-line reads like that of a good back-up SF: 8 pts, 5rbs and 3 asts. Fields is a good baseline player but the way he has performed this year (27% from 3, and 61% from the line) is screaming that he has no business being out on the perimeter. If we must play him on the perimeter, like I said in the OP, he really needs to develop, ala Thoba, a reliable corner/wing 3 and he needs to step it up on the defensive end.

You guys are making too big a deal out of a small sample of 3s this year for Fields (about 80 shots). In his career (about 300 shots) he's hit 36%. That's still a small sample too but this season is way too small a sample to use to reach any conclusions.

Fields jumper is just ugly though.. it's like he barely jumps and he's using all arms. A shooting focused routine over the summer would really help, even though I remember reading something saying that did have one. If true, he should get a new one

I'm for guys shooting the way they want to shoot.

I don't believe in "proper mechanics"; the proper mechanic is whichever way feels best for the player, whichever way he naturally shoots.

Peja had a hideous shot, but he did his thing.

Smith should eventually become the starting SG because his shooting compliments Lin and Melo. Not taking away anything from Fields though, because outside of his decline in his shooting, he has been great recently.

Exactly. I like Fields, but it's tough to win a title with a shooting guard who can't shoot.
