The one incredible shot he made was a reverse layup against the Nets. It's in the Jeremy Lin highlights I believe.

Jeffries' success, as I've said before, is relative to his role. When the conversation starts with, "Hey guys! We're going into the year with Jared Jeffries as our starting center!" of course everybody dumps on it because that means you have somebody worse backing him up. This year the Knicks have Chandler, STAT and Jorts all ahead of him in the rotation, which means he can thrive in his ideal role: a guy who can give us 15-20 minutes as a positional defender around the basket.

It's really the same thing as Toney Douglas. When he's allowed to be a backup SG, catch-and-shoot, and take the ball to the basket and his shots fall, he's great. When he's asked to facilitate for Melo and STAT or run the offense in any capacity, he sucks.

Absolutely. Not to mention that Jeffries is an excellent TEAM defender. Now that we have an actual TEAM defense along side of him, JJ is just a much better fit.

The defining moment when Jared won my respect was, ironically, when he chased down Melo after the Mardy Collins sucker punch. His offensive limitations are definitely frustrating at times, but you just can't hate on the guy.

Thanks for reminding me.

Just saw the video again.

Melo is a bitch, sad to say.

Not sure what everyone's response is about. My point is that Jeffries is good - I just don't understand why he can't be taught to go up strong around the basket and put the ball in the hoop. He always seems very tentative when he puts the ball up. I am not putting him down as much as I want him to improve. What are our coaches doing in this??? They should be working with him on this.

I agree... as fans we should understand JJ's limitations and just live with it.. we know he is not an offensive player..

Maybe the fans are starting to appreciate Jared's hustle and defense a bit more as MDA said. The guy really plays hard. It's clear that the defense is better with him in there with Tyson. STAT and Melo actually weaken our defense, which is much more noticeable with them out. Jared may not hit all his shots, but i'm glad MDA tells him to keep looking for his offense anyway. Sometimes they go in or he draws a foul. Most of the time no one is guarding him.

honestly, the way MDA stuck up for Jeffries really restored my faith in coach. i respect what he values. and i think people have him very much misunderstood and Jeffries is really a prime example. MDA loves him. he values what he brings -- hard work, gritty play, team first attitude, spirit, relentlessness. it's not just all offense for MDA.

Yeah all that BS about MDA not caring about D. He made sure Walsh drafted Shump and that Grunwald brought back Jared. At some point we have to respect that he's not as one sided as people say. Defense looks SOOOO much better when you delete the poor defenders and it makes it obvious what the problem was all this time. Same system as before, much different results with this group and Jared more in the Mix.

I always have been a fan of jeffries because of his pure hustle and the fact thatt he would give up his body if it meant helping the team. I never liked when our fans booed jeffries considering in his own words he'd die just to help this team. Not too many players i know of would risk themselves for the team
