Starks was a crack dealing grocery bagging drop out who had incredible talent and got his game to the next level.

Lin was a high school champ, Calif. player of the year, and a 4 year starter while earning a degree in Economics from Harvard.

Time has been kind to Starks and his reputation. He was a constant frustration to the coaching staff and tested their patience at the end of his tenure here. Look it up.

Lin has demonstrated character conducive to success.

Exactly, the Starks comparison is bogus. Look carefully at the playing personality. Lin barely emotes on the court. His one outburst probably shocked him more than anyone.

Lin is a leader.

I wouldn't use Starks as a compliment. The dude shot the ball too much and played out of control. He had heart though.

Rose is not the answer.

Guys, I think you're reading too much into the John Starks comparison.
I think what is meant is the hope that we have found a diamond in the rough, a guy that was unwanted and turns out to be an impact player and an important member of the team that contributes for years to come.
We paid nothing for Starks, and he ended up (like Mason) to be a major contributor.

No one is comparing IQs.

Lighten up, Sheesh. It's just basketball.

Hahahahaha, that's rough on Starks, man.

I see more Nash in Lin than Starks.

I see a lot of Nash, actually. He will break the ankle and pull up if it's there, or he'll penetrate the ass and drop it off or go up for the nifty lay-up.

I thought the thread was truly about Shop n Bag being the basketball equivalent of Harvard, just two ends of the same spectrum?
Anyone who seriously thought this was about comparing:
- playing style
- athletic ability
- IQ's
needs to sit in on their kid's next reading comprehension class.

We have possibly found the next chapter in the Starks/Mason Knicks feel good story. Only this player may have a better chance at a chip with this crew than Starks or Mase did with the Ewing/Oakley crews.

[waits for the screaming to start]
