5 years 36% winning percentage is a significant body of work in my opinion. Also, while I have never liked the hire because I think the philosophy was wrong, I do think management chose to put D'Antoni in a position where he can't be successful. Hate is a very strong word. I can't think of anyone that I hate, I have disagreed fundamentally how D'Antoni approaches coaching and how he wants his team to play. That isn't hate but I desperately want the team to move on. Also, if you asked me if I respected his character and work ethic I would give you a different answer.

You choose to see only the losing part of the record and explain away the winning part. And this then is fair assessment of his work? You are better than this my good man.

There was a winning part?

Anyway, 36% is par for the course for a Dolan team. It's about what happened for D'antoni and what I would expect with the next coach.

Did you read Crushalot's assumption?

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

At this point I'd rather they crash and burn with D'Antoni as coach and fire the whole coaching staff after the season is over and start from scratch with a new coach who can bring in his own team. Hell we might even get a decent draft pick the way things are going. Its a short season so its not that far off but it will be ugly. That's for sure.

for me, here's why the 36% doesn't mean much: MDA's system is about PnR and the PG making decisions. You don't have that decision maker, you don't have the offense. So 36% almost makes sense.

If Phil Jackson was running his triangle without Kobe or Jordan, his win % goes down. Fairly simple.

Its only a 1 season sample, but the year Jordan retired in '94, the Bulls posted a 55-27 record and had our beloved Knicks beat in the playoffs if not for the "Lets be honest" phatom call on the Davis 3. That team probably advances to the finals to play Houston.

Post trade we had a losing record last year, without even counting the playoff sweep. Not sure how much game they had, at least while on court at the same time.

Very interesting video from that suns game:

http://www.msg.com/our-teams/knicks/the-knicks-fix-executing-in-the-final-minutes-120-1.81405

Has Melo completely tuned out D'Antoni? He doesn't even acknowledge him when they're speaking one to one- D'Antoni even has to keep asking if he understands the play and he still doesn't say a word or make eye contact.

Also is Shumpert deaf? because he doesn't do either of the two simple things he's told to on those two plays.

I don't like D'Antoni and look forward to him being replaced next year, but to be fair, aside from last year he has never PG's or even players capable of executing the most basic plays he calls- that's been ongoing.

MDA in his press conferences seems lost...He has zero answers...If the guy isn't running SSOL he is completely useless...As far I can see, aside from the times he takes to yell at TD, he isn't coaching anyone out there...We aren't running any plays...Ball movement is necessary but it isn't a play...MDA needs to step up now...He needs to figure out why we aren't scoring...He needs to figure out how to get these guys easier shots to build their confidence...He is suppose to be the offensive genius isn't he???...If I didn't know better, I'd say MDA is mailing it in....

Holfresh, he's no genius with anything. He's shown it. Its a gimmick offense that relies on jumpshots falling in. That is no head coaching strategy, but more of a prayer. This man never had answers, what makes you think he will have them now?

Does MDA have any legit coaches on his staff...Seems like all these guys are just along for a paycheck...What is his brother good at? or the dude with the slick back hair(Phil Weber?)...I really don't want to turn this over to Woodson...I have zero confidence in Woodson...Mark Jackson should have been hired three years ago...By now he would have his coaching legs under him...Freaking Donnie is a starphucker like anyone else bringing MDA here...What a complete joke...

How come the NBA isn't chasing down MDA's assistant for head coaching jobs???

If MDA is removed why not give Herb a shot to finish out the year. He's put in work for years, and has had the priviledge of working with various coaching styles (Brown, Wilkens, MDA, Isiah) and playing for Riles and Van Gundy. Never no if he can do the job unless he gets a shot.

Agree with you about having zero confidence in Woodson especially if he's the joker that's responsible for the switching madness...

He won at an amazing rate with Nash and an assortment of all stars. What he did worked with that roster. However, he was in a unique situation. If Riley came to the Knicks in 91 and expected Mark Jackson to run a showtime offense I don't think he would have been successful.

True. If Riley came to Knicks right now, he wouldn't be able to run any offense.
For all of the MDA years we only had a balanced offense once even that was without a C. had it humming like a well oiled machine after half a season. This coach can absolutely build chemistry. But no one can create a jigsaw puzzle solution with only 70% of the pieces available.

A well oiled machine that hummed it's way to a sub 0.500 record.

Brings up an intersting aspect. Here's some speculation. If assistant coach contracts areen't guaranteed anyway. This may influence why MDA is so afraid to ever challenge Amare and Melo or even Shump. Anyone but TD. All his assitants including his brother are riding on his gravy train. As long as he can keep everyone happy and suck up to Dolan he will keep the cash flowing to everyone. Which is why he never said a word of defense for Donnie. There's alot of people he's carrying on his back. He knows if he leaves it may be tough to get another head coaching job;especially one where he can bring his brother along.

He's completely lost the players. Even his most ardent defenders, have to admit that when that happens it's time to part ways.

Even though i also think D'antoni should go you cant blame walsh for hiring him. I mean people may not want to admit it but he was a successful coach in phoenix. So can't blame walsh for that. Last years team fit mike better because we were very up tempo and younger. We just needs a few pieces and a center. then dolan ****ed it up so we are left with two guy who can only play half court offense and aren't even doing that

Sure you can...The Knick through out it's history has been known for it's defensive minded teams...How do you bring a guy in here who can give two shets about defense...He brought in the shiny name...

Remember, this debate didn't just start...It began the moment MDA was hired...

once again im not a fan of d'antoni and i never said it was a brilliant move but for the most part donnie did a good job getting this team out of the slary cap hell and was just starting to get this team back when dolan ****ed it up. so for the 10000th time it was a judgment call move that worked better with the guys we had last year than this year but i agree we need a more defensive coach but i doubt our two stars would buy in
