Carmelo Anthony had no problem going to the whole and getting shots in close near the rim. The rest chose not too. Where I blame the coaching staff is not getting the guys off teh line but instead sticking with the offense and thinking the guys will figure it out. It's not the system it's the execution.

Come on Bip..It's the style of play...This is what's been promoted from day one..Sure players are lazy and could get better looks but this coach will not dissuade these players from taking those shots..

It's part of the offense so why would MDA have them second guessing out there. What they need to do is run the offense the way it's supposed to work!!! It's an INSIDE out offense but people keep thinking that it's a perimeter only offense. The entire purpose of the spread floor is to be able to attack the basket for high % shots. If you haven't learned this simple principle by now then you just choose to ignore it.

What was STAT most famous for? PnR attacking the basket. That's the number one goal of the spread offense. To allow the PG to be able to work with his guys with space. So STAT, Melo and Tyson can operate with room. The 3 is secondary to everything else in the offense. When the players get it wrong they take 3's. This is due to not having a floor leader that keeps the offense on track.

We're also missing Shump cuz he's a creative guard that can attack the defense as opposed to Fields and Walker who are more spot up shooters that need to be fed the ball in the right spots to be effective. Sure they can create a little bit, but it's not a strength like with Shump.

SSOL is taking more shots and if knicks hit a few more the game and comeback would have been complete.

Its painful to watch but last year when Amare went on his tear and was the season second quarter MVP, when gallo started attacking the basket it was a thing of beauty.

We were freaking out last year when we were popping 3's instead of attacking!

Does Billy walker lead the league in offensive fouls per 48 min? Seems like the same dumb SHIT play game after game.

Watching too many Anthony Randolph tapes?

It's funny that no matter what the result or the product on the floor the coaching system is great and the coach elite. I'm pretty certain even Isiah would have gotten something better than the other night. Just stand behind the 3 point line and bombs away. When Amare comes back I 'm sure he'll take his spot at the corner behind the arc too. Harrelson, you are cleared for launch! If this is the way it'll be untill Davis comes back how about starting:

TD
Walker
Fields
Melo
Novak

I can't think of a better combination of 3 point shooters.

right and we would have conqured the mighty Raptors. It would have been proof the system works. Just shots weren't falling.

What style of game would you like to see? Not being sarcastic just curious. Layout how you want this team to play and which player fits what role.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

there was a certain comfort in the old squad. it was easy to follow knowing that players still needed to reach their potential. losses weren't so disappointing because it was a "learning" experience. now, the expectations are high and the team "is what it is." i'm surprised that no one is pointing to miami's start last season as an example that these things take time.

it's easy to take one star and put him in the center of a young supporting class. it's way more difficult to blend two superlative players together and make them greater than the sum of their parts. often, both players suffer and take a step back. does it have to stay that way? no.

neither melo nor amare ever played an NBA season with someone as skilled as the other. and for them to blend, it's going to take way more than 7 games. last season doesn't even count. this team has had a short training camp, two preseason games, and five regular season games. why can't the youth lovers embrace the potential of our star duo? sure, it's not showing itself now, but i think the jury is still out. there is no definitive evidence that they cannot make it work.

Maybe it is because Miami was a championship caliber team last year already and we only are a second round team at best.

No offense mate, but we're not in the same league as miami.
Lebron > Melo
Bosh is not that far from stoudemire
Wade is better than anything else we may add combined

There are favorites to win the title whereas the Knicks are favorite in knicks fans only.

never said the Knicks were as good as Miami. only that the Heat started off slowly even after they had the benefit of a complete training camp and preseason. before they became "championship caliber" as you proclaim, some were questioning if LBJ and Wade could co-exist in light of their similar, ball-dominant games. obviously the players have proved most wrong. Miami is legit.

now, i was against the trade. i wanted to wait it out and let free agency take it's course. but regardless, that's over. in the past. nothing to change that. i just find it odd that some people could see limitless potential for all of the Knicks young guys, but, today, they're ready to write off the Melo-Amare pairing as being unworkable. i think Melo and Amare have tremendous potential to be very dangerous together.

but we both know, as with youth, as with superstar combinations -- potential doesn't mean anything until you prove it. the time to prove it has not elapsed. thus, i'm not casting judgment. i'm giving the team a chance. not saying the losing doesn't disappoint. or that the style of play is entertaining. but if you looked at our start last year, we had many similar problems. i jumped the ship early on that team and felt dumb when they started to put it together. i'm not gonna let that happen again.

Listen the head coach did not come in the post game and say "Yeah we probably got too comfortable settling for the three point shot instead of running the offense and getting to the basket" he just did his usual BS. His logic is this "We took 35 three pointers, lost by 5, if we just make 2 more 3's than we did we win and we are not discussing this".

I've never been a MDA fan, I can't comment on how much of an "offensive genius" he is but I do know from being a season ticket holder throughout his entire regime, he is a terrible in game coach and although the stars seem to love him, I can't see this team doing anything significant under his watch. I know we need to relax since this is the 4th version of a team he's had in the past 3 years, but I expect him to be coaching his ass off during a contract year. Letting a team launch 35 three's and losing at home to the Raptors falls below expectations.

The difference between James-Wade and Amare-Melo is that the first 2 are notorious playmakers that have made a career of making average players around them better. On the other hand, Amare and Melo are notorious ball stoppers that need the ball to be effective. That's a huge difference in my book.

But you're right, a good pg may change a lot of things with a better distribution, but i'm affraid it won't come from our 2 players since it doesn't seem to be in their respective dna.

YOu basically just said what I said. The system is not designed to stand and shoot threes. The system is designed around spreading the floor, creating space for your stars to operate and ball movement. Not to stand at shoot threes. Again, where I blame the staff is that they did not get their players off the line once it was apparent that they were not following the system and were instead jacking contested threes not in the flow of the offense. I watched a lot of Phoenix and that was nothing like Phoenix.

I think in your haste to get at D'Antoni you ignored what I said and just repeated it.

I can see melo changing his game and making other players better. It'd be a miracle to see Amare passing the ball out of a double team without a turnover. When Amare gets the ball he is looking to score no matter where he is on the court. At some point in his Knicks career he is going to have to sacrifice his offense for better defense and work on becoming a better passer to coincide with Melo.

I agree with this completely.

Although, the intention of this offense is not soley to jack up 3's and that was not what they were all about in PHX, this is where we are now and have been for the last couple of years - live and die with the 3. We don't have Steve Nash and we are who we are. This team is not built for this and we don't have great 3 point shooters either. What we do have (now) is a big talented front line. I too blame the coach for not ultimately dissallowing this "settle for 3" offese. Orlando shoots alot of 3's but DHoward gets tripled teamed and in the collapse towards howard, the perimeter is wide open for 3's, not to mention that they have really good 3 point shooters. We don't have Howard (gees, we can't or don't ever throw the ball into the deep post - its allways high (semi triangle offensive)) and we don't have the great trey shooters.

IMHO, someone is responsible for setting the philosophy/expectation each night depending who is in and who is out. Enough excuses "we don't have a pg" blah blah. We have who we have lets deal with it properly as best as we could. Excuses wont win us game nor will jacking up/off 3's at this frenetic pace.

35 3's at 28 percent
