What does it say for Balkman that Knicks have signed a 6'10" forward?

nothing. they play 2 different roles.

So is Novak actually signed for the Vet minimum already? Did he clear waivers? Or is this thread just speculation?

I made the same mistake looking up his stats. Those are preseason games...

He played in 30 games last season between Dallas and SAS, along with 54 and 71 the two years prior with LAC.

Here's some comments from some Spurs fans that might help clear this up:

"The Spurs are trying to get a monopoly on nonathletic three point specialists."
"But now we can start putting hotels on them!"
"I completely expect everyone to complain about this…but we shouldn’t. He’s an end of the bench situation guy who won’t see many more minutes this year than he did last year. He’s entirely situational and there’s no one better than him in the type of situations where we’d need him."
"Good input. I agree."
"Me too. And he doesn’t seem like a disruptive guy to have on the team."
"Can you imagine a LESS disruptive guy than Steve Novak?"
"I think he would have to become exponentially more disruptive in order to be considered un-disruptive."
"Counterdisruption, FTW."
"A corpse"
"But at least the corpse can somewhat defend a guy."

So there you have it. He is a situational end of the bench guy who is counterdisruptional!

Okay, I might have things mixed up but from my understanding he wasn't amnestied. He was waived. I think there is mutual interest be he isn't signed yet.

Anyone else here prefer to sign Reggie Evans over Steve Novak? I think I might. That is, of course, if MDA would play him.

That tells me that he's done.

I watched the you tube videos on Steve Novak
and came away impressed with his shot from downtown.
Agree that he's not a rebounder, but he can play the 3 and 4 positions
which is what we need at this point. He plays a Euro-type game.
He'd be a great replacement for ExtraE.

Berman is reporting that MDA and the KNICKS will pass on Posey.
Thank goodness!

MDA would like shooters, so my suspicion is that we'll be passing on Reggie Evans, too.

We are not privy to what they are cooking up for the 2.5 exemption.

Patience might land us quality.

agreed - I suspect that Grunwald will be watching the waiver wire for the next couple of days.

He spent time in the d-league last year and he is 27. He has one nba skill. I am not sure why the Knicks were so quick to sign him but they must see something in him.

the ability to come in and can a 3 from the corner at 6'10" - hard to block him unless you want to bring a big out and open the middle up for chandler and amar'e. could be a good decoy for late game stuff, but maybe they see something more.

Why are there still those that doubt the Offensive mind of MDA? If he wants a stretch 4 there's a reason! We saw how good it was to have Gallo and then Shawne hitting 3's in this offense. It's just an extra plus when you have a big who can hit the 3. It allows you to REALLY spread the floor and open up the paint for PnR, which just so happens is the signature play for Amar'e. There's a method to MDA's madness and it works.

He's 6'10" and he can shoot. He probably won't see much playing time in any ideal scenario.

Bucks have a lot of players that have can flat out shoot.

Delfino
Ersan Ilyasova
Dunleavey

Captain Jack
Jennings
Udrih

Novak looks like he is a bigger Kapono and between Korver, not a bad player to have on our bench.
He has good size but I am not sure what position he will play.
I wouldn't call him Shawne Williams, he has nice length to go with decent 1v1 D...

Sean Williams is picked up by Dallas. Funny, how they let Chandler go and I thought Williams would be one of the more attainable FA's available prior to Tyson Chandler.
I was hoping we could add him if we ever decided to let one of our developing bigs go in package.

Jordan or Jorts

kinda like Amare.. another MDA 4?

He's a shooter. Funny people talk about looking at Mike Redd, but Novak is a head scratcher? Is he going to crack the rotation? I doubt it.. for the league minimun one skill is usually what you get.

Reggie Evans rebounds and plays some post defense, but he's half as skilled as the JunkYardDog. Whats that tell you?
