Exactly. Lets not make this a retirement home again.

If you sign someone to a $2.5 million salary, its important to be really confident that that player's body will hold up with the daily pounding that it will take. Having players behind the starters who can play at a level where it doesn't hurt the team to rest the starters is imperative. Under those circumstances, I think Michael Redd is a bad risk, because we can't afford to rest him as much as he will need, and the consequences of him getting injured again will be severe.

I totally agree with you. The reason why 2.5m exemption is also important is because it allows us to keep this player part of our core for more than one year. It would also give us the opportunity to get the early bird rights on the player as well. With this we can tell the player that we are not interested for just 1 year of service but possibly for the future as well. If we can't find a caliber of players that is worth it to use on, I would look to possibly use it on D league players in Green and Hunter.
I simply wouldn't give it out for a player just because we have it. If the player isn't worthy to think about keeping for over a year then so be it.
There are veterans I wouldn't invest in for 2 years. Redd falls in that category with his injury at his age.

I would like to invite Jamario Moon in for camp on a 10day contract. I would love Peja at the veteran minimum. But I would be even hesitant to use on a shooter at his age to use the exemption on. The contract shows a mutual interest in which we show we would like to have the player back. And the player has the contract to know, he has a job, more importantly knowing a style or role he can serve for the team. He then has the opportunity to work on things in the off season for the team and a possible longer contract.

I'm really down with getting Murphy and Outlaw if he gets to FA. Baron von Davis is only worth the vet min. All things considered.

Hi Guys,
I'm new to the forum....actually I'm a LONG time lurker who knows who BRIGGS and TMS are (where are those guys anyway?) , who knows that Amare' =Amear and who is just as thrilled with our new big three as all of you seem to be here. My user name "CAT" is for Carmelo, Amare and Tyson.

This free agency period has been awesome and we're coming out of it as big winners for sure!
My sense is that...when choosing between two players (with most things being equal), I'd go with the better defender. That's the direction that this team needs to take. See 1971 Knicks. We need to turn up the defensive intensity across the board...Mike Woodson has been an awesome addition in that regard by all accounts. I hope the guys buy in!

Just a thought.....I'm sure you guys will find a way to beat me up for this one, but....
One name that nobody has talked about is LEON POWE. I remember him with the Celtics a few years ago....he plays with tenacity, is a good rebounder and a great teammate and locker room presence. I know that he had some physical problems a while back (knee?), but he managed to play in 30 games last year, I wonder if he could give us limited minutes to spell Amare? I'd bring him in for a physical, check him out and sign him for the vet minimum if he passes. He's only 27.

Anyway, thanks to Martin and Andrew for allowing me to be a part of this great site!

Briggy is lurking I believe and TmS melted down last spring. Hope both come back.

Defense wins championships but its also a part of depth. Having guys come up big in the moment with defensive stops is as clutch as hitting a big shot. Need two way players to win.

Rosters can be changed on the fly as players are released or small trades.

We have needs for another shooter.

I think that the nickname "ATM" won in the contest.
But, I DO think that BIGCATS is better!
I think that it really nails the personality of our front line...esp Amare.
