Isola reported Billups already back home. Looks like its done. Still not sure whether he was amnestied or if a trade is happening.

Good use for amnesty until we really need it.

what's wrong with using amnesty to get a real center? they could only use amnesty on contracts from last CBA, so: Billups, Melo, Amar'e, Balkman, Turiaf, Toney were the options.

it's a MAJOR bummer because we just amnestied a guy whose option we could have declined. just more mismanagement. i understand that you can't predict the future, but this is just hard to swallow. we picked up his option and then we amnestied him. just feels like we threw away a huge insurance policy on Amare's contract.

Well nothing is official yet. The laker's deal is more solid than what we have right now. We still don't know all the details.

i hope the Knicks find a taker for Billups and Turiaf.

I think that's exactly what they're trying to do. I could be wrong but I think we want to make sure Billups leaves satisfied. And in the end, hopefully it will work out for both.

Why did we need Dallas? Can't Denver or Indy or someone take his expiring for a lower salaried player? Billy's plus Turiaf should get us a serviceable big or a PG

i for sure hope Billups is traded back to DEN. Good for DEN, good for NY. Perhaps a third team can help out and come away with a big old trade exception.

yeah, that'd be good. i have a feeling billups will find his way to Denver via amnesty. Denver can bid like $7M on billups. what other under the cap team would bid more?

Plus, Knicks had to pick it up within a few days of their season ending. Amnesty would be good in the event someone had a Allan Houston type catastrophic injury. But aside from that, hopefully this is our team for a while and we won't need it.

i kind of agree. this move reeks of isiah:

1) build the absolute perfect team for chris paul, featuring two of his best friends.
2) leave yourself absolutely no way to acquire him via trade or free agency.

sigh. still, i'm excited for what's here right now. tyson chandler is the perfect addition to this team, isiah or no isiah.

This will be a heck of a front court and Grant Hill would have made us great. We need outside shooters, don't think we have any on this team with CB gone.

If we keep Williams we have outside shooters. Williams, TD, Fields, Melo and hopefully whatever PG we pick up.

Inconsistent, immature and not coach able. Need veteran leadership at Guard.

not to mention Iman. (and Baron Davis, who I'm guessing will be a Knick before the all-star break)

Dudes really going to reach and blame this on Isiah Thomas. LMAO. You guys are too much.

It made the most sense to pick-up Billups option because we didnt have a PG and he was a trade asset.

So you need veteran leadership at each position? We have 2 stars and one of the top C in the legue coming off a title run. That's enough leadership.

thats what I was thinking since last year. Chandler was the guy I wanted with his salary. However, when the Mavericks locked in the NBA Championship, it was hard to imagine this scenerio comeing back up. But some one said only part of his salary would be cut, I didn't quite understand that. From what i understood, it would be about 4m to buy his contract out, so 4mill would be counted against the cap.

While I understand how people don't feel safe using the amnesty on Billups, while Amare could blow. If we don't get a legit center to play with him, he will have a great possiblity to get hurt as well. For the current Knicks, I believe Tyson Chandler makes more sense and gives us what we need. We still have exceptions to use as well. To wait for Cp3 and hold cap to sign him, limits our moves in improving and we wouldn't have a chance in the playoffs this year. And again, hurting Amare's chances are greater.

We will possibly be able to use the MLE this year and next summer. I am very much excited...

Lakers are now missing a starting PF and a great forward off the bench in Odom as well.
I am surprised they didn't try to obtain Ariza, West, or Ok4.
