Denver Discussing Turiaf Trade With Knicks
Dec 08, 2011 1:19 PM EST

As the Knicks attempt to create enough cap space to sign Tyson Chandler, the team has been in talks with the Nuggets about a deal involving Ronny Turiaf.

Turiaf was acquired by New York from the Warriors during the summer of 2010 in the David Lee sign-and-trade.

only way i could see Denver taking Turiaf is if they were getting Billups back. i think that has to be the plan.

also, Billups did not report to camp today (still voluntary).

Billups and Ronny for Andre Miller? works on the tradechecker. Maybe we get rights to one of their unsigned rookies also.

why? it protects amar'e. it makes amar'e and melo's offense that much more valuable. i think it's a fantastic move.

Let's see how fantastic this move is in a year or two.

Guarantee people are begging to rid of this guy by next offseason. Too bad he wont be tradeable.

C2D, I understand where you are coming from with your arguement, in terms of him being injury prone. With that said, if we can manage to get 2 good solid years out of him, he would be tradeable afterwards, b/c then he only has 2 years remaining, so teams may want to take his soon to be expiring contract.

This would be a great signing.

great point.

A healthy TC is very interesting.

It enhances Amare.

If he can become "Camby" like as a healthy force that would be a huge addition.

Amnesty billups with 66 games to go is not exactly the smartest thing.

Under SSOL we don't need a great PG, but we need the right PG to play the system.

Denver needs Rony. Billups in Denver is good for all.

Please, I think this is exactly what we need. Even though

Deandre Jordan
Matt Gasol
McGee
Hibbert

have a step on Chandler, more upside, greater athleticism, his experience and leadership will make up for it. What people don't understand about Tyson Chandler is that he is not at STAT WHORE. He hustles, boxes out, and has great size/length. That combination, protects the paint, players, team defense, rebounding, and he doesn't usually jump or even need to alter/deflect shots. Give me

Prince
Battier * think he signed with Miami*
Butler
Grant Hill
Shawne WIlliams

and add another shooter
Parker
Kapono *not sure if he signed with Lakers for sure yet*
Peja
James Jones

I would still go for an athletic center/PF in the mode of Sean Williams because he can play the PF/Center effectively.
If this happens, players will now look at Knick's as an opportunity to win, being a contender for the finals.
For them to really do this, they probably believe Shumpert has the ability to play PG.

If Chandler joins, you will see exactly what I mean.

Shumpert, will have the size advantage on PG's defensively. He can actually even post them up himself.
TD, I hope improves his driving and finishing layups. And added a mid range pull up. Shumpert + TD will be NASTY FORCE together with the addition of Chandler is true.
While TD, still has to learn not to always cheat, a shot blocking player like that can back him up. Shumpert applies a lot of pressure and can recover really fast too.
This will also help our rebounding and fast breaks. I am so excited, if this was true.
I would love another play like Ariza in the future. Wow, I wonder if any New York Knick's management get influence from this board....

I agree. He is also a proven player now with his strong play in the playoffs. 2 things this team absolutely needs are defensive/rebounding center and PG. This signing answers that. What is not to like?

In a surprise, the New York Knicks have reportedly become the leaders to obtain the services of free agent center Tyson Chandler.

Chandler, a 29-year old seven-footer whose defensive presence last season was crucial to the Dallas Mavericks' championship, had reportedly been holding the Golden State Warriors in highest regard. The Warriors are reportedly ready to offer Chandler a four-year. $60-million deal as soon as the free agency period officially begins on Friday.

But the Knicks can offer Chandler a better opportunity to play for a contender. Ken Berger notes that New York could retrieve the necessary cap space by using the amnesty clause to release Chauncey Billups, then parting ways with Ronnie Turiaf. League sources tell Berger the Knicks have jumped to the top of Chandler's list, though the Mavericks and Warriors are still in pursuit.

Despite his game-changing ability to defend the rim, Chandler does not come without risk. Before a mostly-healthy run in Dallas last season, Chandler had struggled through two consecutive injury-riddled seasons. In February of 2009, a trade that would have sent Chandler to Oklahoma City was blocked when Chandler failed a physical. After examining Chandler's big toe, an Oklahoma City team physician named Dr. Carlan Yates found that there was a high likelihood of reinjury. At the time, Chandler said Yates "doesn't know how long I'll last."

This board is going mad....really..it is...

The day when Anubis is the only that agrees with me (and he is a former Isiah fan) is the day I need to question what everyone else is thinking.

heck no, just means they have to wait til all this goes down for it to happen.

given the tight schedule, at least we'll know this weekend if it's happening.

I am more 50/50 on this move than any Knicks move in recent memory. I think both sides have legitimate arguments.

I don't have any ideas of which C we can get. The only thing I know is that this guy is grossly overpaid.
