Hunter: "We're not having a meeting tomorrow because they told us no way." ..They said if we meet there's got to be a precondition of 50-50.

Hunter said Jim Dolan, Mark Cuban, Micky Arison among owners who were ready to make a deal....

yep. really this lockout comes down to the summer of 2010 and the Melo deal. Heat, Mavs, Knicks ready to deal. Suns, Denver, Cleveland all lost superstars and among the hardest line teams who are saying "they can't compete."

So, basically the NBA is blowing up a season because Cleveland and Phoenix are being cry babies.

Seriously, Dan Gilbert, the Cavs owner, led negotiations today. SMFH

I think Hunter has a point about Stern and the owners following a script. The rift seems bigger than it was prior to the moderator getting involved. Fisher, Hunter and Kessler all are reacting like they were ambushed today.

i think at the BoG meeting Stern said they were close to a deal if they moved over 50% on the BRI and certain hardline owners went ballistic. and that's why Stern didn't go to the mediation today and Gilbert and Paul Allen played major roles.

i honestly think stern wanted to make a deal today and was voted down by his hawk owners.

these guys are billionaires who are used to bowling their way into getting everything they want. it's the way america works for them, why not the nba, too.

everything i saw from stern is that he was negotiating in good faith. i GUARANTEE in the next 24 hours we see a story that questions whether stern was not sick but disgusted with the sarvers, dan gilberts, paul allens of the ownership side. and, worse, i wonder whether the owners move today was to permanently disenfranchise david stern.

for once, i'm proud of Dolan. honestly, he's a buffoon, but he lays it all out.

he's misguided, but i almost prefer his misguided buffoonery than the calculated miser-sh!t that the small market owners are all about. **** those cats. all crying about being small markets. build your ****ing cities up. stop ****ing hating. be happy you have a ****ing team *******s.

sigh. i feel bad for the players in this. whiny cry baby owners like dan gilbert are gonna take away 20% or more of some of these players career earnings by this. think about this - the owners are predominantly billionaires. they'll lose money on the lockout, but their overhead goes way down, too. they'll layoff employees, don't have to pay players. players on the other hand have 5-10 yr careers if they are lucky. losing a whole season is huge for them and the owners know it.

Stern and others for two years said they prepared to go without a season.

I really don't know why this is such a surprise to some.

They really not messing around. Dolan loses more than the smaller teams but this is not just a league of a few big cities.

I want a resolution as much as anyone but demonizing either side is pointless.

Its not a script, it was an effort. Owners have an agenda an sticking to it.

Y'all might not agree but this was fore told 2 years ago.

The NBPA isn't happy with Spurs' owner Peter Holt. Source says he's slowing talks and told the players, "You haven't felt enough pain yet."

I wish Kennedy gave his source.

yes, this is all pre-planned by the owners. and the hawk owners are the ones who have nothing to play for and a lot of bitterness towards certain free agents.

surprised? no.

disgusted? yes.

From CBS Sports:
David Stern did not attend Thursdays meetings, due to what Adam Silver described as the flu.

From Cohen:

“As a follow up to the NBA’s and NBA Players Association agreeing to my invitation to conduct negotiations under the auspices of the FMCS, three days of mediation have taken place. During this period, a wide variety of issues were addressed in a professional, thoughtful manner, consistent with what one would expect to take place in a constructive collective bargaining setting.

“Regrettably, however, the parties have not achieved an overall agreement, nor have they been able to resolve the strongly held, competing positions that separated them on core issues.

“In these circumstances, after carefully reviewing all of the events that have transpired, it is the considered judgment of myself and Deputy Director Scot Beckenbaugh, who has been engaged with me throughout this process, that no useful purpose would be served by requesting the parties to continue the mediation process at this time. For our part, the Agency has advised the parties that we will be willing and prepared to continue to facilitate any future discussions upon their mutual request.”

yeah, i've seen this movie before. stern had his authority to make a deal taken away by the owners. there was a reason today was the first time in a while we heard from dan gilbert and paul allen.

paul allen used to be bill gates' hatchet man, he stole the basic computer language from a small time programmer in seattle and made microsoft billions. he's good at this.

if you want to call it the flu, go ahead. i'm sure stern was sick to his stomach.

yah poor players. Greedy owners taking all their money away. They should all get paid whether there's a season or not. In fact everyone should pitch in a few bucks. Stop withholding the players money.
