Nice to have picked up a center in the draft who seems to be a tough banger. Wasnt sure if Vucevic was able to play that role on the team.
One thing I really like watching the videos is that he really seems to have good hands catching some tough passes. In comparison to our other bigs like Turiaf and JJ he will not be overly turnover prone.

Here are the things I like about him..

1. Strong
2. Wide
3. Gets the ball up quick
4. Jumps up to avoid fouls when trying to block shots.
5. Plays big in that he does not put the ball down after catching.
6. Looks like a bad man and loves contact.

He will become a garden favorite very quickly.

i think he will get in shape fast

seeing that he is a hard worker. He knows if he wants playing time he will need to get lighter and build his stamina

If you watch highlight vids of the kid, guys just bounce off of him like he's the blob. It's really funny. He doesn't move. Just stands there and guys can't knock him down. Once he gets on the block he's able to hold his position. He should be a good reserve banger.

So do we call him the orangeblobman? He will be wearing blue and orange.

Ryan Russello said this morning that the Knicks could have given him a bus ticket, a gift card to Apple Bees and a tryout and saved a million dollars.

Thanks for posting the highlights. He has absolutely ZERO ups, but that's ok. Big Z doesn't have ups either and he was pretty good until his feet gave out. I like this pick and hope he'll be great at the dirty work (e.g. 6 hard fouls a game, 8-10 rebounds, 2 blocks, protect this house mentality). I'll take him!

p.s. funny how his highlights were set to metal music when all the brothers have hip hop in theirs...

I love this kid. I hope he gets 20 min a game and impresses. With a jump shot I sort of see a Bill Lambier type.

And what an amazing story. Everyone always doubts him. Divorce, rough home life, being denied the ability to get out of his commitment letter, not getting playing time, the coach being cruel to him. But Jorts survived man, Jorts survived.

I wonder how he will compare to Mozgov - I think he looks like he will be ok. We need a center so I guess they took the guy they thought could contribute the fastest out of the list of available C's. Who knows, Donnie did well with T Moz so I am not going to judge this guy until I see him on the court.

They sound different. Mozgov was pretty athletic for a big and had a decent shot. Harrelson is a better rebounder.

I really hope he works out. He is a guy that would be very easy to root for and is a dirty work guy which is what the Knicks need. I can't help thinking negatively about this draft though. I think the Knicks got a guy who is more of a second round pick at 17 and paid for a guy that they could have gotten with a camp invite.

Originally from a Kentucky site-found on Posting and Toasting. Good breakdown of the guy's game and abilities:

The big question for Josh at the NBA level is, "Can he guard his position?" Josh is a big body with good feet, and if he continues to be motivated to work hard, I don't think there is any doubt he can be a serviceable situational backup at either center or power forward for some NBA team. Whether it's the Knicks or not is another matter.

Some things most people don't know about Josh:
He can shoot the ball with range, all the way out to the college 3-point line.
He is as good a pick-and-roll player as you are ever going to get in the second round.
He had a strong, durable body that can take a lot of punishment, and deliver as much as he takes.
Harrellson is a quirky personality that is always upbeat and positive.
He won't be the most coachable player in the NBA. He has a touch of the hard head and isn't as quick to pick up things as others. But when properly motivated, he can really be surprising.
Harrellson wants to succeed at the next level, but I think he mistakenly believes that will be enough. Calipari was able to motivate him with results, but that's going to be harder on the NBA level since he will be competing against very talented players.
Harrellson rebounds the ball with two hands and uses his body well to get position.
Harrellson will do pretty well against all but the super athletes (aka Dwight Howard) or the huge guys in the league that can shoot over him. He doesn't have a great vertical, possess great length, and is not a superior athlete, but he does move his feet well for a man of his size and is not afraid of contact. He needs to become even more physical than he already is if he wants to succeed in New York.

Unfortunately, I didn't see the Knicks play enough with their new roster to be familiar with them right now, but the big question is where Josh fits in defensively. The Knicks have a great front court with Staudamire and Anthony, and Harrellson could provide short spells of relief when he learns the speed of the NBA game. I doubt that he will contribute immediately, but doubting Harrellson has been the default position with Kentucky fans all year, and he has proven all of us wrong over and over. Take that under advisement, and in a good way.

I'm excited to see Josh play. As with Iman, when you put talented players on the court with Stat and Melo, it just raises their game. Josh can hit the outside shot, PERFECT. We needed a center to clear space for Stat or Melo. I really liked Feried, but that lack of a shot had me worried. Iman also, has a very nice shot, but has suffered from poor selection. (I see that changing QUICK).

Josh completely was under the radar because he just isn't an super athlete, doesn't have great measurements (but has size), etc. With him and Jordon at the Center position, I'm really comfortable now (and this is mostly true cause we have those two all stars out there.)

Jorts has very good stamina for a BIG guy....he played 28.5 min/game for the high flying Kentucky team. He's listed at 275 lbs. I like him at maybe 270 lbs. Being Big has it's advantages when boxing out under the basket. Also, he'll probably only play 10 to 15 min/game so he should be fine. I really rooting for him to do well.

Every team needs a guy like Harrellson who can mix it up and play with a bit of an attitude, and maybe we'll end up finding that he has more skills than we realized he had.

I would like to see him at about 260, though, since the NBA game is so much quicker. If he gets a little stronger even as he loses some weight, I think he'll still be able to bang down low, but he'll also be better equipped to deal with some of the speed he'll be seeing.

Wouldn't you say thats more of what we need? I mean we have Stat, Melo, Billups as our three scoring threats plus TD and I guess you can throw Fields in there. Now you have Shumpert and Jorts for some defense and rebounding, it should add a lot of balance to the team.

The only thing I am not a fan of is pinning hopes on 2 young guys who haven't played a single NBA game and probably won't get any summer league under their belts. We have had some luck with young guys the past few seasons but not every prospect pans out.

I'm liking this pick more and more. He's the kind of guy who can come into the NBA and do the exact same thing he did in college - block out, set screens, grab rebounds, get some easy putback baskets, etc.

He's the kind of center who can come in and play - while Jerome Jordan seems to be more of a project. I think it's good to have both types of guys.

I Am slowing changing my stance on Woody/Josh Harrelson & liking this gent
he got suspended by Kentucky for ripping & taking on coach Calipari.

Harrelson suspending for ripping Kentucky Coach:

I LOVE it ! my kinda of guy, now all we need Woody/Josh to
do is complain on lack of time Coach NOD'Antoni gives
young Josh and we will see new Knick rookie not backing down
from the legend D'Antoni.

DJ Gotta love that fire too!

I'm liking Josh Harrellson more and more, and I had already liked the pick when we made it.
"I'm going to protect my stars," Harrellson said yesterday ....."Amar'e, Carmelo, if someone's getting rough with them, I'm going to protect them. I'm going to make my presence felt. They'll know I'm there."

Harrellson, the No. 45 overall pick whom the Knicks acquired from the Hornets in a draft-night deal for about $750,000, said he thinks he can have a long NBA career as -- his words -- a garbage man.

He led the SEC in rebounding last season, averaging 7.6 per game. He gained additional fame by wearing jeans shorts, which garnered him the nickname "Jorts."
His nickname with the Knicks is up for grabs. The Joshinator? Hammerson?

I am just wondering, when Dolan signed off on this pick, if he knew this was for the Knicks and not the Rangers! The Knicks enforcer. Go Jorts!
